I love this type of schadenfreude!
Keep it going Blue!!! And Go Blue!!!!

Oooh - love these. My evening is set
October 15th, 2022 at 5:08 PM ^
I mean, they gave Frames Tuck-like money, didn't they?
Lololol
October 15th, 2022 at 6:06 PM ^
Frames loses 90% of the big games that PSU is in.
October 15th, 2022 at 6:16 PM ^
But does he lose almost half of his games, all by double digits?
October 15th, 2022 at 5:09 PM ^
" lack toughness on the field against equal talent"
Um no. Not equal talent.
October 15th, 2022 at 5:23 PM ^
Idk, Penn State is always up there close to us or a little higher in recruiting, but they still have Frames.
October 15th, 2022 at 5:52 PM ^
While the talent may be equal the coaching is obviously not....
October 15th, 2022 at 8:38 PM ^
Which is why their fans are (rightfully) furious. PSU under Frames has recruited inexplicably well. Their talent level across the board is comparable to Michigan (in other words a step down from Ohio but better than anyone else in the conference). But the in field results (blowout wins for Michigan in Ann Arbor, tight games in Happy Valley with one exception) haven't aligned with the talent.
October 15th, 2022 at 8:58 PM ^
He has that one white-out win over OSU where they went about 9 for 9 on do-or-die plays. Aside from that what does he have that has impressed? Beating the 4th best team in the conference in his lone B1G championship game? Blowing out a re-tooling Michigan team with JOK at QB in 2017? Winning one out of 5 in the Big House in the Covid year?
He recruits as well as Michigan but has gone 2-2 at home vs us and has gotten absolutely pantsed 3 times at the big house; twice as a top-15 team. He will never get Penn St to even where Jim has gotten Michigan to, and that is solely on his coaching. He’s not been devoid of talent (Barkley, Sanders, Godwin, Hammler, Dotson, etc.). They’ve had more dynamic offensive players than we have had, and their results hasn’t translated
October 16th, 2022 at 1:25 AM ^
Franklin's inflection point was blowing double digit 4th quarter leads against Ohio State in two consecutive years -- 2017 and 2018. Both of those collapses were atrocious and altered the course of his program. They had a golden opportunity to establish themselves as the Big Ten's top team (would have been a 3-game win streak against Ohio State), and they completely blew it.
October 16th, 2022 at 8:01 AM ^
Don’t know how the coaching could an issue; I mean Frames picks his staff based on the attractiveness of their wives/girlfriend. How could you go wrong with such criteria as scientific as that?
October 15th, 2022 at 5:16 PM ^
Someone mentioned a list with the most overpaid coaches and Tuck wasn’t #1 or 2 (Fisher and Frames). I find that hard to believe.
October 15th, 2022 at 5:30 PM ^
He is still living off that one good year. He’ll be moving up the rankings after this year.
October 15th, 2022 at 5:33 PM ^
Franklin has done well at PSU. Remember what they were before him. Not sure why the hate here.
October 15th, 2022 at 5:37 PM ^
Remember what they were before him.
They were pretty good. The coach before Frames (Bill O'Brien) did well enough to get poached by an NFL team. Before that they had Paterno.
October 15th, 2022 at 6:47 PM ^
You have to go pretty far back to get to consistently good PSU. Frames has had some good seasons but hasn't been able to leverage a good season into something sustainable. A crop of good players (like Saquon) graduate and then the next guy up isn't able to replace that kind of production. I think it mostly comes down to development. Seems like (from a million miles away where I'm sitting) the guys they have this year are basically the same as the guys they had last year. Some may even be a bit worse (Clifford with the exception of 1 run looked worse to me this year).
October 15th, 2022 at 5:21 PM ^
Great stuff. I especially enjoyed the "snake oil salesman" reference. Thanks for sharing.
October 15th, 2022 at 5:27 PM ^
LOL Frames had two weeks to prepare for this game and laid an egg.
October 15th, 2022 at 5:33 PM ^
That might be the best part of all of this.
October 15th, 2022 at 10:07 PM ^
Frames hasn't won a game out of a bye week since 2017. That takes talent. You'd think after it happens a few times you'd change your approach
October 15th, 2022 at 5:29 PM ^
got there M teams mixed up and spent the bye week prepping for minnesota lol. There next 3-4 games could be losses if they don't find some real offense besides like three good plays.
October 15th, 2022 at 6:48 PM ^
Yeah, sadly I don't think, by seasons end, this win will do much for our strength of schedule. I see a couple more losses coming for PSU.
October 15th, 2022 at 5:31 PM ^
Allar is going to be solid to average in the end. He isnt mobile and without OSUs receiving corps that just doesn’t get it done, especially with Frames as the coach. PSU fans wanting the team turned over to Allar are delusional. Without Clifford’s feet PSU does not even score an offensive touchdown. I know Michigan offered Allar but I like that we are prioritizing guys with some mobility. It makes a huge difference.
October 15th, 2022 at 5:55 PM ^
Allar may have a lot of potential passing talent. But, my god, he's a statue. That sort of limited mobility doesn't lead to great success in today's game. Very outdated. Reminds me of Sackenberg.
October 15th, 2022 at 6:09 PM ^
Exactly. And those statues take a lot of hits. A lot of hits leads to accuracy/confidence issues. I will enjoy watching us tee off on him for the next couple of years.
October 15th, 2022 at 8:40 PM ^
I mean it'll only be a problem if PSU's offensive line is consistently awful at pass protection. I'm sure it'll be fine.
October 15th, 2022 at 5:37 PM ^
"Face it. Franklin is a fraud. A snake oil salesman. All hat and no cattle."
Can't really argue with any of that. LOLOLOLOL!
October 15th, 2022 at 8:52 PM ^
....but still one hell of a sketch pad artist.
October 15th, 2022 at 5:43 PM ^
I love Penn state fans. It the “refs” and now it’s outcoached. While I agree they were out coached, they certainly weren’t out recruited. Our coaching starts with identifying what player suits what we wanna do, while Franklin focuses on stars and not developing. As much as we rip Harbaugh and what we think is leather helmet football..it works. It worked against OSU last year and we’re getting batter at it with better players.
October 15th, 2022 at 5:46 PM ^
And Minter is a friggin bad ass. The D worried me but we rushed 4 basically the entire game and still beat Clifford to a pulp. I’m not brazen enough to say we’d do the same to Stroud. But OSU fans certainly think it won’t happen.
October 15th, 2022 at 8:38 PM ^
Seriously, Michigan fans never complain about the refs or play-calling.
October 15th, 2022 at 5:51 PM ^
Delicious.
Tastes so good I almost ruined my dinner.
October 15th, 2022 at 6:03 PM ^
LOL
"seems we’ll need to wait to see michigan play a good team.
as for us, move on and get ready for next week."
October 15th, 2022 at 6:03 PM ^
It’s not typically a good sign when a team commits a stupid undisciplined unsportsmanlike penalty on the FIRST play of the day.
Losing and getting outplayed happens. But it is an indictment on Franklin that they came out not playing fundamental and business-like football from play one.
So many things that are frankly kind of rotten: that, poor tackling, Franklins patented dumb timeout, chirping in the tunnel at halftime when they are losing, celebrating a bunch of meaningless false start penalties when they are down multiple scores and Michigan is in the red zone.
So it goes. Michigan wins and moves on, PSU can still — in theory — have a very good season but today was indicative to me that there’s quite a lot of “rot” that is deeply embedded in the program and may not be able to be rooted out.
October 15th, 2022 at 6:22 PM ^
Drawing a a bunch of false start penalties feels like a big win when you’re getting steamrolled tho. Worthy of celebration if nothing else lol.
October 15th, 2022 at 6:53 PM ^
Would be curious to hear what you think PSU should do going forward. Seems like you're stuck with Franklin for a while or do you suspect finishing 3rd or worse in the BIG will get some boosters to buy him out in a year or two? From the outside the program seems to be kind of stuck and it doesn't sound like Franklin knows how to unstick it.
October 15th, 2022 at 7:36 PM ^
I’ve always liked Rhule - and he is available now. I doubt the trigger gets pulled but it’s at least possible.
You are right about things seeming to be “stuck.”
October 15th, 2022 at 6:03 PM ^
Better to be them getting out the torches and pitchforks than us. But it is fun to watch!

Slobberknocker Football
For those of you who didn’t know what it was now do. That’s B1G slobberknocker football. Men vs. boys. Rather embarrassing to be honest but it is what it is. Not sure Krafty believes in it but we’ll see.
Did the coaches use the bye week to teach the players how not to block, how not to tackle, and how not to care?
October 15th, 2022 at 6:22 PM ^
And this from rcmb:
Have things ever been this bad?
Stonewall55
- every single DB is terrible in coverage
- every single LB is a liability
- we have maybe 2-3 DL that are worth anything
- our starting qb has the yips and the coaches’ undying loyalty
- our RBs have the collective talent of a low level mac team
- we can’t kick FGs, like, at ALL
- OL is middling but can’t really move the line against p5 opponents
Seriously, has it ever been this bad? This team is PAINFUL to watch in every phase of the game.
stinkytofu
The holocaust was pretty terrible.
October 15th, 2022 at 6:21 PM ^
It's weird but I stopped enjoying the misery of other fanbases a little while ago. Only certain fanbases are in my limited pool of dislike and PSU is one of them. Before the scandal? I was mostly indifferent to PSU. Didn't like them but didn't hate them. Now I mostly do but I still can't really enjoy it when every comment on it or RCMB or whatever is some moron just ranting & raving incoherently. I like a good, clear and concise breakdown of how and why their team sucks. A few there know the problem (Frames) but still too many "hurr durr refs & scUM" stuff for me to enjoy it.
Even worse is that not all other boards ban politics and it's just infested with weird, random complaints about culture war stuff.
I guess it's that the general discourse is worse, even in anger. So, a good OSU/MSU/ND/PSU cry is good but just doesn't do it for me like it used to. I'm losing it, fellas.
October 15th, 2022 at 6:21 PM ^
This loss is 100% on Franklin.
When Penn State went pass first tempo, mixed in some QB run, and handed it off in quick situations, Michigan had no answer. But screw stuff that works, amirite?
What game was this guy watching? PSU had 10 first downs, a few of which came in garbage time.
October 15th, 2022 at 7:40 PM ^
Any comment that states, "Michigan had no answer" has zero credibility. UM had every answer.
October 15th, 2022 at 6:37 PM ^
Why is PSU recruiting so well? This team hasn't won a big game since that fluky blocked-kick against OSU, which was several years ago. And I think that's the only big game he's won. Always overrated. QBs always get beat up -- and Allar looks totally immobile.
October 15th, 2022 at 8:40 PM ^
As bad as an in-game coach as Franklin is, the inverse is true about his recruiting prowess. Say what you want about his judgment, but the guy got decent players to go to Vanderbilt for Cripe’s sake.
October 15th, 2022 at 10:12 PM ^
Because Franklin is a snake oil salesman. It still baffles me how recruits fall for it
October 15th, 2022 at 10:45 PM ^
I believe the operative phrase is: "Young Dumb and Full of Cum"
