OT/META: Please use the search bar before you post
Clearly with the season coming up, we're getting a lot more seasonal posters who, despite their good intentions, are not searching for posts before posting their own days old "[insert coach here] has Covid" articles.
- There is a search bar in the top left on desktop. Please use it before posting.
- If an article is more than 2 days old, assume it's been posted already or that it wasn't relevant enough to be posted when it was first published
- Just use common sense, and Bolivia can be avoided.

Correction: Search bar is on top/right.
October 21st, 2020 at 2:43 PM ^
and I entered that in to the search bar to confirm it!
October 21st, 2020 at 2:54 PM ^
we probably need to start a meta thread to address this.. I'm on it guys!

I find the implication that I am a seasonal poster and not someone who has brought *important* Purdue news to the board for years offensive
October 21st, 2020 at 1:27 PM ^
I didn't realize that there was such a thing as *important* Purdue news.
October 21st, 2020 at 1:30 PM ^
pipe down lady
October 21st, 2020 at 1:37 PM ^
‘Important’ and ‘purdue’ don’t belong in the same sentence

"Boiler Up"

BUT THE BOILY BOIS!!!!

Purdue update: Purdue Pharma paying $8B fine and shutting down. Boiler down.
October 21st, 2020 at 1:32 PM ^
Or you can just ignore the post and move on with your life.
October 21st, 2020 at 1:45 PM ^
MGoBlog does not accept mediocrity on post creation, keep it in the comments. And on that front, strong work!
October 21st, 2020 at 1:48 PM ^
Except that it does, frequently, regularly, and repeatedly.
October 21st, 2020 at 1:56 PM ^
"No, it's the children who are wrong."
October 21st, 2020 at 2:51 PM ^
Yes, often times my children are more wrong than I am. That's not too controversial...or is it? :)
October 21st, 2020 at 1:45 PM ^
If you search for "Jeff Brohm" and click "MgoBlog" the 2nd page post does not come up...only the one that was just posted. For me anyways...
October 21st, 2020 at 1:49 PM ^
I searched for "Brohm" and the second thread came up as a third result, right behind a post from 2017.
October 21st, 2020 at 1:50 PM ^
Try keyword "Brohm" and enter. You will get both threads and much, much more.
October 21st, 2020 at 1:59 PM ^
I tried again and it came up...weird.
October 21st, 2020 at 1:59 PM ^
incorrect.
October 21st, 2020 at 2:22 PM ^
I find this hilarious. You tell him that he's wrong and base your conclusion on a completely different search. Keep building that mom resume.
October 21st, 2020 at 1:51 PM ^
But even that isnt really needed. All anyone has to do is check the date stamp of their "news" and follow these easy steps:
Important Michigan news more than five minutes old - it's either been posted or someone is creating a post
Relatively minor Michigan news more than one hour old - it's either been posted or someone is posting it
Major non-Michigan football news more than one hour old - it's either posted or someone is posting it
Minor non-Michigan football or any other non-Michigan sports news two hours old - probably OK to post but scroll the sidebar first to make sure
For some reason this week people who absolutely should know better are seeing things that are news to them and deciding "hey, I'll bet all 100,000 plus visitors to MgoBlog this week probably missed this bit of news like I did. I better create a thread for it."
Why is this so fucking hard to understand?
October 21st, 2020 at 3:07 PM ^
Someone might need to summarize this in its own thread. Like what happened in 2016.
October 21st, 2020 at 3:20 PM ^
C'mon, MGrow. I learned in my 30's that a large size of any population - even the crowd on Mgoblog - is just plain fucking stupid.
Cant stop stupid, cant cure it - can only ignore em, laugh about em, or severely abuse a stupid blog poster with a witty putdown. Most folks here choose the 3rd option...
October 21st, 2020 at 9:40 PM ^
I like being stupid Mike.
How do you feel about it?
October 21st, 2020 at 1:52 PM ^
No mercy for duplicate posters, it's Mgoblog tradition
October 21st, 2020 at 1:57 PM ^
A tradition, unlike any other.
October 21st, 2020 at 2:01 PM ^
FWIW in my personal pet peeves I find the multiple posting offense far less "offensive" than the "hey, I just heard something so I better create a thread about it" regardless of how old their news flash is. Same-day multiple posting, especially if the original thread is just a link without content or has an obscure title like "Boiler Down" so the 2nd poster cant readily identify it is very understandable to me.
But Jesus tap-dancing Christ on a cracker, check the date/time stamp on your news before creating a thread. if your news aint "new" - dont post it.
October 21st, 2020 at 2:51 PM ^
You don't like the hawt take threads? Me neither.
October 21st, 2020 at 2:52 PM ^
I appreciate that the board sweeps the leg when appropriate.
October 21st, 2020 at 1:53 PM ^
Yes this !!
October 21st, 2020 at 1:54 PM ^
Who will give me more MGoPoints if I create a post in 10 minutes titled "OT/META: Please use the search bar before you post"
October 21st, 2020 at 2:24 PM ^
You might want to do a search before you post that thread.
October 21st, 2020 at 1:59 PM ^
It's crazy to me how fast some people will get a thread up after news is reported. Like damn that's your first instinct?
October 21st, 2020 at 2:22 PM ^
Gotta get those delicious MGoPoints!
October 21st, 2020 at 2:01 PM ^
Totally agree but it would also help if this forum had the single feature common among every forum in existence and that is to have recent posts bump thread to the top. You'd get rid of redundancy and help keep popular threads alive.
October 21st, 2020 at 2:01 PM ^
Unfortunately, I am unable to find the previous "Everyone use search before posting" threads which assuredly exist somewhere in the aether and would've made this the most ironic meta thread ever.
October 21st, 2020 at 2:08 PM ^
Ironically, I think you've just proven exactly why this thread needs to exist.
October 21st, 2020 at 2:26 PM ^
You mean to tell me that the advice in this post isn't contained in another thread? I mean, it's pretty important. Arguably so important that it should be in a "sticky" post somewhere. If not, moms should totally make this into a sticky.
October 21st, 2020 at 2:36 PM ^
Saying that if someone actively searching for the last "use the search bar" post can't actually find it, then there is a need for a reminder post, because there's no way the casual visitor will find these tips otherwise.
But yeah, there should be a post/sticky somewhere.
October 21st, 2020 at 2:03 PM ^
Since this has gone of the tracks already, what would be more demoralizing?
Having 100 scored on you, or having a team run the clock the entire 4th quarter through running the ball and stringing together a 20+ play drive? 2nd scenario would assume that you’d start with the ball on your own 20 around the start of the quarter.
October 21st, 2020 at 2:17 PM ^
I searched gravy and found several posts, one of which was about gravy
October 21st, 2020 at 2:17 PM ^
Correct procedure:
1. Don’t use search and assume no one has posted days old news
2. Post anyway as if the news came out 1 millisecond ago
3. Take your negs and/or argue with evereyone, thus receiving more negs
4. Have your post moved or deleted by mods and accept your negative points thus not allowing you to start new posts
October 21st, 2020 at 2:29 PM ^
I always make sure to search before posting, important PSA to be sure
October 21st, 2020 at 2:31 PM ^
Ironic that this is a duplicate post.
October 21st, 2020 at 2:34 PM ^
Yes - use the search function!
Google thanks you...

By tapping on the blue "Go To MGoBoard" bar , you can take a ride thru the Time Tunnel all the way back 2313 pages of OPs to late June 2008. That's over 92,500 posts and counting BUT DOESN'T INCLUDE ANY OF THE DUPLICATE THREADS THE MIDS DELETED.
Since the first post to the new board was Brian's "Welcome to the Board" post, I'll instead give you the link to the 2nd ever thread, " 2008 Predictions"
https://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/2008-season-record-predictions
...and nobody in this short thread came close to foreseeing how awful it would be.
