OT: Yahoo Report implicates Miles Bridges in Dirty Dealings with ASM Sports Agency

Submitted by WorldwideTJRob on

Looks as if Izzo will have to answer more uncomfortable questions at his press conferences. They go into detail that Miles Bridges Mom took $500 on some documents at the agency. This would make him ineligible immediately and probably would spell the end for Coach Izzo at MSU.

This was money spent by an agent to lure potential clients. Brian Bowen got what $7000? That's opposed to the $100K he got for enrolling at Louisville.

These are the type of violations that get players ruled ineligible. Aside from vacating wins, I'm not seeing further penalties to schools and coaches. The exception would be when coaches were dumb enough to cooperate with the agents. Maybe coaches already involved with bagmen are dumb enough to get caught on tape with agents too.

This barely matters to me in relation to their horrific treatment of sexual abuse victims. I hope more questions continue to be asked about their pattern of covering up abuses rather than focusing on $500.

Compared to the other problems Michigan State is facing this seems minor but probably the one thing that will cost  the  program the most.

Izzo is thought to be a great coach but the end is just around the corner.   When you cheat to get the top recruits and John Belein still beats you?

whether its 10$ or 10,000...Illegal is Illegal AND the money to the parents amounts to BRIBERY....as far as MSU goes it will be lie and deny lie and deny lie and deny just like all the other stuff floating around MSU, IZZO and Dantonio and the NCAA will take 5 years to sort this out per usual

This and - one has to assume - ever more damning allegations are what Izzo had to be thinking about when he appeared so shell-shocked a few weeks ago during the Nasser sentencing and ESPN stories. That sick look on his face had nothing to do with Nasser, Appling, Payne, or anything else related to sexual assault.

He must believe - rightly, I suspect - that as time passes, more media outlets will uncover more of these stories that implicate him, his coaches, and his program. He probably felt pretty comfortable keeping the NCAA at arms' length; the FBI is another animal entirely.

At this point, I'd have a hard time keeping food down or maintaining any control over my bowels and sphincter. I have to hand it to the guy; there have been no messy cleanups courtside so far. That's better than I could do.

Am I the only one that thinks that this coupled with the rape culture stuff at MSU might make the NCAA feel compelled to drop the "lack of institutional control" hammer on MSU to set an example? Either that or they'll do nothing as usual *shrug*

MSU is strongly denying the "rape culture stuff" and the only thing in this report implicating them is a very small amount of money given to a players mom for dinner.

This board HAS to get past this obsession with hoping something bad is going to happen to MSU via ESPN/NCAA.  Unless there's a lot more coming out than what was contained in this report MSU & Izzo are safe as houses.

The FBI and DOJ do a remarkably good job of getting suspects to roll over on other suspects. No one wants to go to Federal Fuck Me In The Ass Prison; least of all, agents and other VIPs used to very cushy lifestyles. There is little doubt that ASM's people were already naming names among other shady firms - and the FBI will dutifully follow up.

It's really just a matter of time before the really big money payouts get uncovered.

But can you honestly say, after reading the article, looking at the list of payouts other schools made and coupling that with the NCAA's proud history of doing absolutely nothing unless forced to, that anything is seriously going to happen?  Honestly - can you?

I'm not saying it was right but in the context of this report a lousy $500 to a kids mom is NOT going to bring down Thor's Hammer against MSU.  I know virtually everybody here badly wants that to happen but it's just not going to happen.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news (again) to the board.

Something will happen, maybe not as dramatic as coaches losing their jobs - I too doubt that will happen. Some wins will be vacated though.

What will change is the consequence free environment the cheating schools are used to operating in.  A 500$ dinner or "loan" is almost beside the point.  First, you know there are multiple agents out there, all competing..  and that's not even counting the bagmen.  Second there will be a chilling effect going forward.  Isn't that ultimately the goal of law enforcement?  Would you be more likely to give/accept illegal benefits if you thought there was no consequence, everyone does it, NCAA doesn't care?  Would you be less likely to do so, with the knowledge that now there's a possibiity that the FBI might be in your business?

out of any one school when many are going to be in line for punishment at the same time for the same thing. If it did happen, Louisville is in danger because they were already on probation.

MSU could get hit if the Michigan AG investigation shows they were actively covering up crimes or corrupty influencing the legal process through the prosecutor's office. We can all speculate on the chances of that happening, but it would be enough to hit them with lack of institutional control by itself.

Bama is getting tired of winning in football now they paying basketball players. Oh yeah nothing will come out of this considering ncaa is corrupted and gets paid on its own from some of these bosters.

I have totally faith that coach B is clean. But a report like this still makes me worry that a player still could have taken some kind of loan or advance from an agency trying to get him, without Coach knowing. Because this doesn’t seem to all be about recruiting with guys from schools like seton hall and Wichita state, but also the agencies trying to get the players to sign with them

The big news about MSU in this case is that someone loaned a recruit's family member $400 and bought her a dinner. There's no indication that anybody affiliated with the school or the basketball program, or even the recruit himself, had any idea about this transaction.

It doesn't matter how clean our coach, program, or its players are. I'm keeping my head low until the FBI tells us it's out of ammo.

I remember a few years ago when Izzo whiffed on Jabari Parker and a few other targets and had to settle for )what were for him) some weird guys.  Then, he comes back guns blazing in 2016 with Bridges, Langford, Winston and Ward.   It was proclaimed by Izzo to be his best class ever. It seemed then that he must have come to some realization, that to compete with the big boys he was going to have to start playing a little (more) dirty.  I think we are seeing the fruit of that now.

Izzo did an interview and said at the end of a recruiting cycle that MSU "needs to change the way they recruit". Looks like MSU may joined the 1 and done pay for player party late and are not as good at hiding everything.

I heard UK just loads up prepaid Visa cards for players and leaves them in gym bags from my UK buddies. Sounds like that is the best way to go.
