Just saw this topic elsewhere, so I thought I would bring it here b/c it appeared to be interesting.

What Sporting Event Would you have like to Seen in Person?

Miracle on Ice?

Ali vs Frazier?

A Fielding H. Yost coached football game?

etc.....

1951 Dodgers v. Giants which featured Bobby Thompson's game winning home run, "the shot heard round the world" and the famous radio call "The Giants Win the Pennant! The Giants Win the Pennant!  The Don DeLillo novel "Underworld" starts with a wonderfully fantastical description of this game and how all of New York was swept up in the excitement of that day.

It might have been one of the greatest rounds in boxing history, but as a Hearns fan it was tough to watch.

Hearns needed to fight Leonard and box Hagler, but instead he tried to box Leonard and tried to fight Hagler, thereby allowing his opponents to use their respective strengths.

It was a great fight (certainly one of the best rounds of all time - maybe the best). If Hearns hadn't broken his right hand in the first round the fight would have been even better. His right-hand power was normally his main weapon but he had to rely on his jab after that.

I was there and it was a scene unrivaled by any I have ever seen.  The roar from the grandstand as Big Red came down the stretch was unmatched by any I have ever heard.  People were tearing up, including me. Strangers were hugging each other.  That beautiful horse had a hold on the American public like none before or since. I feel so privileged to have witnessed it.  It was so loud you couldn't even hear Chic Anderson's iconic call: "(Secretariat) is moving like a tremendous machine!"

1968 World Series Tigers @Cardinals game 7.

There's nothing like winning the deciding game of a Championship series, and there no Championship series that's ever meant as much to me as that one did to the then 13-yr old me,  especially when I kept the faith even when Detroit trailed 3 games to 1.

I was almost 8, and watched it on B&W TV with Curt Gowdy announcing. When Freehan caught McCarver's foul popup I screamed my head off.

I'd add three more events to this one:

Miracle on Ice.

Bobby Thompson's HR in 1951.

Jesse Owens at the 1936 Olympics. (Not that I'm in a big hurry to visit Nazi Germany, but he sure would have been something to see.)

In case you’re not joking: I was there, baby. Was on the way out, but stuck around. Feared slightly for my safety because I had a maize n blue hoodie (not Michigan, just those colors) that just so happened to be Pacers colors basically. Got outta there fine and had some fun stories at the bar later as we watched it on tv the rest of the night. Pretty crazy though.

That really sucks because I was there and only five rows off the floor, luckily on the opposite side of the floor from the incident. I have no clue where my ticket is though and either does my current wife who was also at the game. We didnt even know each other then but it was funny talking about our experiences there.

The Rose Bowl. Really any Rose Bowl, but preferably one with Michigan in it if that ever happens again.

Also the World Series, any world series, but preferably one with the Yankees in it.

Night game at Death Valley (both LSU and Clemson)

any game at Wrigley

I'd like to see a Knicks game where the team is competitive but that's a dream
