OT: The Official Thread For The Airing Of Grievances And Feats Of Strength

Submitted by LSAClassOf2000 on

Based on a very good suggestion in the thread below, we should probably have a separate thread for these most important and therapeutic Festivus traditions.

I shall begin with a couple -

*turns to next door neighbor* The recent weather was difficult for all of us, and I appreciate that you don't want to spend a couple hours in the cold fixing your now completely oblitterated drain line from your sump pump to the street, but damnit, I am not going to suffer the glacier now forming around your foundation once Christmas is over.

*turns to city DPW* I get the whole plowing thing, but I am getting a little tired of having to shovel the end of the driveway multiple times each snowstorm. A few more such instances and I am afraid that I am going have to insist that you correct the situation yourself - I will stand in the way of the plow and refuse to move until your department has shoveled me out.

To People Complaining about the power being out, and Consumer Energy not working hard - Shut it. They are working as hard as they can so they can enjoy their holiday with their family. I bet they will be out busting their asses on the holiday so we can enjoy ours.
To consumer energy - pretty please get this taken care of.
To the white knight sports fans - quit acting mightier than people who get irritated with the results. If I hear something along the lines of "real fans don't..." I want to tell you off every time. Just because I say out losses were ugly or bad losses doesn't mean I'm giving up on my team. It means I'm irritated about the result, or giving respect to the other team for their well designed and executed game plan.
To my Sparty Coworker - I get it. You're good at basketball and football this year. When I say your football team had a better year than mine, I would appreciate it if you didn't rub my nose in the carpet like I peed in it. You're good to talk other sports with, but this type of behavior makes me want to avoid you. Oh yeah, I remember the first 5 games of the season when you were saying they won't make a bowl, it you get too obnoxious I have no problem throwing that back in your face.

First world problem: I just recently moved to Florida and it's been in the 80's for a few days. It's going to drop down into the upper 60's by Christmas and the weather-lady said "It's going to feel a little bit more like Christmas with the cold-front we have coming through."

* to my MF neighbor* If I hear your damn dog bark one more time after 11 pm or before 7 am I am going to come to your house and punch your silly ass in the face. Dogs can't be held accountable for their actions, there owners make them what they are and you have the yap, yap, yappiest dogs I have ever come across. If you can't keep them quite then keep them the hell inside.

Seriously, in the last week I have woke up at 3, 4:15, 4:30 and 3:45 am. I suffered through 3 years of that crap while my quadruplets were learning how to sleep and I've had my fill of it. I tried asking him nicely and when that didn't work I called the bylaw office (we have a municipal bylaw about digs barking after dark and before dawn) and neither have rectfied the problem. One more night like last night and he is going to have a very angry visitor at about 3 in the morning.

My wife does most of  the "heavy lifting" since she decided to stay home with them until this fall (when the started school. With the hours work require I honestly have missed most of it unfortunately.

I'll tell you this though...I could definitely llift those dumb bells that weak ass Mandelbaum put his back out lifting. No problem at all. Worlds greatest Dad my balls!

Had a housemate one time who's dog was completely untrained and whenever you opened the door, the dog would try to bolt out the door and into the road and said roommate would lose her freakin mind that you were so 'careless' and 'endangered' her dog.

MAYBE TRAIN YOUR DOG WOMAN. DAMNIT. I hope it gets hit by a car, maybe you'll learn to train the next one. Grievance over

My mother in-law's dog barks at every fucking thing. He's a big dog, and his barks just reverberates throughout the house. At first it was just when someone would pull up to the driveway or comes to the door. Then it moved on to the neighbors coming or going. Now it's to the point to where I think he's barking at pin drops and mouse farts.

to me a few weeks ago. My neighbor just got a puppy that barked non-stop originally and just as I was getting fed up and about to call the front office, I ran into my neighbor. She ended up being really hot and really nice and the puppy was adorable and she gave me her number so I'm letting it slide.

That only support the team when they win or win in perfect fashion. The lack of support at the Ohio game suggests ... Go find another team to whine about.

Especially for teams like us with old school coaches,,, Teams that played great "help" defense: There is no more "help" defense... only fouls waiting to be given for any such attempt to do so. No more reward for squaring up on a guy driving... Only a blocking foul half the time blown before contact anymore because it's assumed. Teams that play great perimeter, shooting, and ball movement offense: Congrats, try to get clean looks anymore by just moving the ball and kicking it to good shooters. In this era, defenses have learned to play way outside and cover you. There's no benefit to sagging off to help, because you can't help anymore. If you don't learn to put the ball on the floor and beat someone one on one to the hole... you won't win against those who do. College hoops has become the mini NBA. Guys like Jabari Parker going to the rack ala mini Lebron, or even a Stanford point guard who knows to just run off people's shoulders (any M big) or just flat out through tem (poor Spike), will succeed wildly. Guys who settle for contested 3s or only drive trying to avoid contact will have a tough time.

My neighbor got a puppy for their kid this year. I've named the dog, "Barky" for obvious reasons. I'm thinking of hiring Newman and Kramer to take care of "Barky."

Grievance #2: people that cut me off in traffic without signaling. If you're going to be jerk, at least signal me your intentions.

Grievance #3: ESPN not letting Herbstreit "pick the games" he's calling like that makes a difference, but let Spielman call our games.

Grievance #4: The existence of Joe Buck and Tim McCarver.

Grievance #5: Korean soap operas. They have taken all of my wife's free time.

Grievance #6: cancer.

*grievances* The Negative Nancys who have got themselves worked into such a state of misery over a football game that they start launching personal attacks at other posters and wishing violent acts on coaches and players. I am pretty sure that 97% of them aren't serious and just being overly dramatic for the sake of drama, but even so, wishing murder and/or maiming in someone because you "care too much" is just beyond fucked up. Also, when many of those same posters launch personal attacks on others who disagree with them and then whine about how "MGoGroupthink is stamping out UNIQUE and ORIGINAL OPINIONS!!1!" when, SURPRISE, they piss off a bunch of people with their shitty attitude. No, dude. You being an asshole and bouncing from thread to thread spewing the same overly negative horseshit and pretending that you are the last crusader of free speech on the internet is why everyone else is going out of their way to shun you. And lastly, the people who try to use freedom of speech to spew hate and then whine when their hate speech is condemned that they are being censored. You have every right to say what the fuck you want to say, but I don't have to like it any more than you have to like that I don't like it. *inhales* Jesus... sorry about that, everyone...

When people make brief comments and end them with "that is all." That stopped being funny years ago, people. I'm sure I have more but can't think of them right now.

Edit: Also, the Prediction: Pain thing is old as dirt.

The people that create a post, then end it by saying, "Discuss."  As if people couldn't figure out to do next on their own. Just end the post, you don't need to try and be cute at the end. It's tired and stupid.

I'm sick of all the play this Phil Robertson / A&E squabble are getting. I mean honestly, every time I go on facebook (which isn't often, but still) I find about 5 invites to either the "fire Phil Robertson FB page" or the "Support Phil FB Page".

TBH, I have watched the show a few times and find it to be a little funny (in a really ridiculous sort of way). I won't lose sleep over how this whole thing plays out but what I do find interesting is the implications of what A&E have done.

Now I'm going to keep religion and my personal opinions out of this and just say what I find interesting is A&E has made a stand and suspended this Phil guy for saying something they felt was contrary to their brand, which I can only assume they have the right to do because I don't have knowledge of the individual contract they signed with the Robertsons.

Since his suspension, apparently the family have said they won't do the show without Phil, so production has apparentrly been halted. Now I don't watch much of A&E but what little I have seen of the channel it seems as though this DD is a major part  of their programming. So what I'm interested in seeing is how it all plays out.

Right now, regardless of my personal beliefs I at least have a little respect for A&E for sticking to their values and suspending an employee who wasn't following what they stood for. But now they have painted themselves into a corner because one of their biggest money makers are posturing as if they'll walk if their father isn't reinstated.

This will be the big test for A&E. Do they stick to their values even with the prospect of losing millions of dollars, or do they try and find some way to reinstate him while also saving face? If they stick to their guns, I will be pretty impressed that when faced with adversity they maintained the values they hold dear, because many peple don't do that. If they cave...I can't think of a more humiliating PR situation for them to be in.

Anyway, my greivance is with all those people who want me to join their ridiculous FB groups for things as assanine as this, but I am intrigued with this saga. It's almost as intriguing as the Toronto Mayor saga, but not quite.

That was a damn fine job at summing it up while avoicing politics.

My guess is that there will be a brief standoff until A&E eventually caves and lets him back on in a limited capacity for a bit before moving on as of nothing had happened. The show will take some heat for a few weeks until their 15 minutes is up and everyone getts bored and moves on to the next reality tv "phenomenon."

FYI, I haven't watched the show, if that is relevant to anyone.

Well put.  I have come very close to "unfriending" many relatives over this stupid Duck Dynasty debacle.

The dude has the right to say what he wants, even if what he says is completely assinine.

That right prevents him from legal/criminal prosecution.

A&E has the right (I would assume, based on the wording of his contract) to suspend him the same way I would be suspended if I said certain things publicly related to my job or otherwise.

End. Of. Story.

One thing that did stick out to me was the fact that there was basically a Duck Dynasty marathon yesterday. It was on straight for a couple hours. For them to "stick to their guns", they really should just pull the show. Like you, I am not stating that I am on one side or the other, but it seemed odd to see it run so much so close to the "incident".

But Bucknuts is trying to run with a story about Lewan beating up an OSU fan after The Game. Seems a joke because of how the kid who was supposedly best up did little to press the police to arrest Taylor and his buddy ran left his buddy when has was supposedly being beat up.

Sounds like the kid was drunk and tripped over a fence, got hurt and then found out Lewan was at the bar and looked to make himself a OSU hero by saying Lewan hit him twice.

Stanford's uniforms yesterday were unreadable. It's bad enough that they wore black which isn't one of their colors, but they could have at least made the numbers white instead of dark red.

*mgopoints delay* - My grievance is that it took Brian so doggone long to get the moderation system working again. Threads had become close to unreadable. Between trolls and negative nancies, I stopped going into many threads. It was just too painful.

related:  I found it incredibly stupid and annoying for people to comment "plus one to this post" or something like that. It didn't work that way, and didn't mean a thing.

*Borges Hate* - I got really tired of the Borges haterz at Mgoblog. To be more specific, my grievance is with Borges haterz who put up posts like "Fire Borges!" or "The Lions should hire Borges" or "I wish Michigan would do terrible against Ohio so we could fire Borges."

To the idiots who bum rushed the sneaker store by my house causing the police to be called, the riot act to be read, and adding extra time to my ride home which made my take out order cold:

I wish I did not live within your range of stupidity.

That is all.  Happy Festivus to mgoblog!
