TERRIBLE! Now I can't watch.
DEATH TO AFTERNOON GAMES
September 17th, 2018 at 11:39 AM ^
Perfect for us traveling to the game and wanting to tailgate. 3:30 pm central kick > 11 am central kick
September 17th, 2018 at 11:41 AM ^
What about Wisconsin?
September 17th, 2018 at 1:12 PM ^
I'm fine with it, thanks for asking
September 17th, 2018 at 11:41 AM ^
Any mention of whether that’s eastern or central time?
September 17th, 2018 at 11:43 AM ^
EDT.
It's late because FOX has a 1 pm MLB game. If the baseball game goes over 3.5 hours, be ready for yet another Fox Business Channel search.
September 17th, 2018 at 11:44 AM ^
Last year the Purdue game was a 4pm scheduled start so hopefully Fox is trying to avoid that with the 430 start.
September 17th, 2018 at 12:47 PM ^
Foxsportsgo App.
September 17th, 2018 at 11:42 AM ^
Weird start time.
September 17th, 2018 at 11:43 AM ^
3:30 central = 4:30 eastern.
September 17th, 2018 at 5:48 PM ^
Next you'll tell me that's 2:30 MTN
GOOD JOKE, BUDDY
September 17th, 2018 at 11:43 AM ^
As someone going to the game that lives about an hour from Evanston this sucks. Thought we'd be able to get a noon (11 a.m. local) kick given that Northwestern just lost to Akron.
Going to miss a pretty good chunk of the first half of OSU at Penn State and probably the entire first half of Stanford at Notre Dame.
Rain is in the forecast too, but obviously that's way too far away to trust at this point.
September 17th, 2018 at 11:51 AM ^
All Michigan games at Northwestern the last 22 years have been 3:30 or night games except for 2007, I believe.
Noon games there are just very rare.
September 17th, 2018 at 11:56 AM ^
Wasn't aware it was that rare, still though, a man can dream.
September 17th, 2018 at 12:01 PM ^
Who is even attempting to forecast Chicago weather 12 days in advance?
September 17th, 2018 at 1:48 PM ^
I know, right? Insanity.
September 17th, 2018 at 1:06 PM ^
Wait, you're on a Michigan blog bitching about missing the OSU and ND games?
Are you lost?
September 17th, 2018 at 1:33 PM ^
Brian frequently makes a similar point (noon games are the best because it allows you to catch most of the afternoon slate) and I can't stand it. As if Michigan should be scheduling so as to make it most convenient to watch other teams' games.
September 17th, 2018 at 11:43 AM ^
Of course there's an MLB game at 1 PM on Fox as well. I'm sure that game will go to extras and ruin my DVR of the Michigan game.
September 17th, 2018 at 11:45 AM ^
The last time Michigan went to that stadium, we were treated to M00N. It's like to returning to the scene of a horrific crime.
No eye cancer football, please. Unless it's coming from Northwestern's side.
September 17th, 2018 at 11:48 AM ^
NW's front 7 looked pretty good in the limited action I saw of them when they could come downhill at the running game. Their secondary on the other hand... woof. Very slow.
DPJ should be able to run right past them and Perry is too quick to be covered by them (assuming that game plan is used of course). Thomas on jet sweeps getting them going side to side could also be a problem.
September 17th, 2018 at 11:50 AM ^
Northwestern has a bye this week and there's a lot of rain in the forecast. Wouldn't surprise me if they let the grass grow extra long for this game to try to slow things down.
September 17th, 2018 at 1:02 PM ^
Does this actually work? Genuinely curious. Does long grass disproportionately affect faster teams? Because I’ve seen this idea elsewhere but would think long grass affects slower players as much as it does faster ones.
September 17th, 2018 at 3:00 PM ^
We'll see. Northwestern's season is on life-support after losing to Duke and Akron, and this would fall very much into the category of "save the whole season" kind of games if they win.
Definitely agree in that their front seven looks pretty solid, especially their LBs. Probably an NFL player or two in there. They're going to dare Michigan to throw.
Fortunately, we seem to finally have a QB who can answer the bell on that.
September 17th, 2018 at 4:07 PM ^
It's hard to project things because of the inconsistencies of the offense. Not only in execution, but just in play calling/scheme.
If Michigan goes legit 4 wide (and has decent protection) with DPJ, Collins, Gentry, and Perry, NW doesn't have the ability to cover those guys.
If Michigan goes 1 wide with DPJ, leaving Gentry and McKeon inline, NW won't have problems covering everyone and I don't understand why that is even being used at this point.
September 17th, 2018 at 11:46 AM ^
Through 5 weeks Michigan will not have played a single game on an ESPN affiliate. Not important but pretty interesting to me.
September 17th, 2018 at 12:12 PM ^
I kinda like this....the ESPN/SEC/Pete Feinbaum Michigan narrative is nauseating.....they find reasons to knock Michigan at every turn and always look for the negative on the team and the fanbase.
I say F-them!
Go Blue
September 17th, 2018 at 12:30 PM ^
Whatever. Right now, they are knocking OSU more than they're knocking Michigan. For vastly different reasons, obviously.
September 17th, 2018 at 11:55 AM ^
I have to say I am thrilled with this for completely selfish reasons. I'm taking my 1.5 year old for his first live football experience and I've been F5'ing the internet all morning waiting for this announcement. This times up perfectly with his nap schedule. Cannot be happier.
September 17th, 2018 at 12:19 PM ^
Hopefully it lines up well to your nap schedule as well.
And your post shows the life changes most of us experience. Worrying about nap schedules....
September 17th, 2018 at 12:29 PM ^
How does a five-year old have a nap schedule...shouldn't he be in school?
September 17th, 2018 at 12:35 PM ^
What difference does it make if he's in school? Kids don't take naps after they are 5 years old anymore?
September 17th, 2018 at 12:50 PM ^
No, they shouldn't be. Particularly little boys with a lot of energy, not after around 3 years old IMO. Excessive napping in daycare is a huge problem for two-working parent families. They put the kids to bed for like two hours and then they are up until 11 or 12. It messes with their clock, big time.
Infants and young toddlers, yes. My 55 pound tank of a 3.5 years old who opens the car door, pulls himself into his car seat and buckles his own seat belt while making grunting noises? No, he doesn't need a nap. He needs another rep at the weight bench.
September 17th, 2018 at 1:09 PM ^
^^^ Truth.
My son stopped napping around 2 and he bitched about having to take them way before then.
September 17th, 2018 at 12:37 PM ^
I'm taking my 1.5 year old
I'm guessing your brain read that as "my one five year old" versus "my one point five [one and a half] year old."
September 17th, 2018 at 12:38 PM ^
He also says his child is 1.5 years old, so....
September 17th, 2018 at 12:40 PM ^
I think he said 1.5 year old. Would be quite impressive if that child is in school already
September 17th, 2018 at 12:40 PM ^
The kid is 1.5 years not 5 years. Read!
September 17th, 2018 at 12:37 PM ^
Good luck, man. These four hour college football games are not very kid friendly so I salute you.
September 17th, 2018 at 2:00 PM ^
Will he be pregaming by inhaling 4 oz juice boxes?
September 17th, 2018 at 2:23 PM ^
Good luck, wish we could pull that off. My son turns 2 in Dec and no way in hell I could take him to a game. He’d sit still for maybe 15mins
wife and I will be dropping him off with grandparents. We’ll be heading up from Chicago.
Was going to try the Chi UM alumni club tailgate at Canal Shores Golf course.
do people in Chicago drive/uber to game or take the train? I just moved to Chicago last winter so first time.
September 17th, 2018 at 12:04 PM ^
It is irritating that the teams were are about to play have been so comprehensively bad that we don't even have the opportunity for another "good" win, or even "satisfying" win until the Wisconsin game.
We are about to embark on the final 3 legs of a five game stretch of "all down side" games. Michigan wins and "Michigan only won by that?" Michigan loses and "sky is falling fire Harbaugh!" We don't have another game that can earn a sincere fist bump for a while.
September 17th, 2018 at 12:59 PM ^
Look at it as time to fix the O-line.
September 17th, 2018 at 2:56 PM ^
Yup. More time for the OL to keep getting reps and build its confidence.
September 17th, 2018 at 12:11 PM ^
Have to work in the morning..it will be just the thing to look forward to. Plus the several thousand Michigan fans attending can now leave the day of to make it to the game.
September 17th, 2018 at 12:16 PM ^
Phew. We're going to the game, but have a wedding in Grand Rapids Friday night. This gives us a nice buffer Saturday morning.
September 17th, 2018 at 12:20 PM ^
Perfect! Have family coming up and I am sure we will be out late Friday, this time works for me.
September 17th, 2018 at 12:24 PM ^
Dammit Bo
Start all games at 1 pm.
September 17th, 2018 at 12:36 PM ^
i cant stand kicks this late, makes me really anxious
