I don't read it that way. The text to Sam said the he "got the release to Michigan" which implies that he didn't have it in the first place (otherwise the text would have been "Auburn never prevented me from going to Michigan"), but subsequently he got the release. To me this seems to show that the original story that Michigan was blocked as an option as correct. Its just that they had to realize that this position was indefensible and a potential PR disaster. Malzhan backed off and gave the release before it became a national story. It was punitive and petty and used this kid as a weapon against Michigan to show their displeasure at Harbaugh's satellite camp down there. It was stupid, indefensible, and would provide absolutely no benefit to Auburn. It was only going to blow up in their face so they cut the line.

This might not have been a national story, but it was definitely an SEC story.  I live in Jacksonville, FL and this was the first story that I heard on sports talk radio when I got in the car this afternoon.  The primary focus was on Michigan's  satellite camps.  FWIW, one host was in favor of them (competition) the other host was not (too one sided, SEC coaches would never camp in Michigan looking for players).

Anyway, it looks like Malzahn came to his senses.  He would look REALLY bad if he made a student athlete's career hinge on pettiness.

I would assume he would be a safety considering he was a safety coming out of high school, a safety in JUCO and a safety while at Auburn. The big thing in his wanting to transfer is the fact that in the new defense at Auburn they were asking him to bulk up and move to a more linebacker role and that wasn't even going to guaruntee him the playing time that he wanted

Sounds like Michigan is the place he wants to be and that is awesome!  I like that Harbaugh is generating a lot of depth that is at least somewhat proven.  This way we aren't relying on an unproven freshman to come in and perform right away.

Not sure how I feel about all these transfers. Where is he going to play? Whose spot will he take? I'm 100% behind Harbaugh if this is what he thinks is best for the team, but there is a nagging part of me that wonders whether this influx could mess with chemistry.

I LOVE Harbaugh's snese of urgency.

That was one of my biggest gripes with Hoke . . . there was no sense of urgency.  Everything seemed so complacent while the ship was sinking, as if he felt it didn't matter, he was secure no matter what and could fiddle around for a while.

Harbaugh appears to be under no similar illusions.  He gets that there is a small window of opportunity to get critical mass and get this thing rolling again . . . and he's going to charge through it.

There is an argument that our 2011 success had a lot to do with team chemistry and just improving on an underperforming, underdeveloped team. Instead of tearing it down, we just coached the D up and added some young hungry talent. But there are more way than one to skin a cat.
