[Matt Miller] Post-Combine Mock Draft (2 Wolverines in the 1st round!)
Bleacher Report has Matt Miller's "post-combine" mock draft" earlier today. Thought some football-starved MGoBloggers might want to discuss it.
Of note, Miller had the following Wolverines in the first 3 rounds:
- #11 - Taco Charlton to New Orleans Saints
- #23 - Jabrill Peppers to NY Giants
- #80 - Amara Darboh to Indianapolis Colts
- #83 - Jehu Chesson to Tennessee Titans
- #101 - Chris Wormley to Denver Broncos
Rest of the B1G:
- #6 - CB Marshon Lattimore (OSU) to NY Jets
- #7 - FS Malik Hooker (OSU) to LA Chargers
- #18 - CB Gareon Conley (OSU) to Tennessee Titans
- #26 - OT Ryan Ramczyk (Wisconsin) to Seattle Seahwaks
Round 2
- #46 - MLB Raekwon McMillan (OSU) to Indianapolis Colts
- #47 - DE TJ Watt (Wisconsin) to Baltimore Ravens
- #48 - OG Dan Feeney (Indiana) to Minnesota Vikings
- #49 - WR Chris Godwin (Penn State) to Washington Redskins
- #53 - DE Malik McDowell (MSU) to Detroit Lions
Round 3
- #69 - C Pat Elflein (OSU) to LA Rams
- #71 - DE Dawauane Smoot (Illinois) to LA Chargers
- #73 - DB Desmond King (Iowa) to Cincinnati Bengals
- #75 - WR Curtis Samuel (OSU) to Buffalo Bills
- #82 - LB Vince Biegel (Wisconsin) to Denver Broncos
- #96 - DE Carroll Phillips (Illinois) to New England Patriots
- #100 - LB Anthony Walker (Northwestern) to Tennessee Titans
I think that was all the B1G players, let me know if I missed anyone.
...some high heeled cleats.
Jourdan Lewis and Desmond King were better CB's in the Big Ten the last 2 years, but NFL loves the measurables and athleticism, and they're lacking a bit in those departments relative to guys like Lattimore and Conley (ARGH). Perhaps he could have trained more specifically for the Combine (not saying he didn't, but his measurables didn't wow anyone), otherwise grow a couple inches (and yes, I'm being facetious).
Desmond King as a S solely because he can't run.
Lattimore and Conley have the tape to backup their stellar play but they have the size/athelticism to go with it. These are the reason why they're considered to be a 1st rounder. Lattimore has hamstring durability issue that could prevent him from getting picked at top 10.
It is more surprising to me that Ohio State had three potential 1st rounders in the secondary, I'm not sure I can think of the last time that has ever happened.
The first comparison I can think of is the 2008 USC LB corp that had Brian Cushing, Clay Matthews and Rey Maualuga.
Jake Butt #110 to the Jaguars
Jourdan Lewis #122 to the Colts
Ben Gedeon #169 to the Texans
Ryan Glasgow #180 to the Chiefs
Delano Hill #182 to the Packers
Jeremy Clark #193 to the Bengals
Deveon Smith #237 to the Bucs
for those wondering but didn't want to click the link.
Thank you. Inquiring minds want to know.
Glasgow at #180 is absolute steal.
Stribling to go undrafted?
Jabrill to the Giants? Don't see it but sign me up!
It definitely seems like an odd prediction considering that the Giants already have Landon Collins who is 23 years old and just made his first Pro Bowl. On paper, it would seem that Peppers' and Collins' roles would overlap a lot on a defense, but anything can happen I guess.
So torn on this one. As a Giants fan, I love getting Michigan players. It seems like for a long time we always had a good one or two on the team (Jumbo Elliott, Calloway, Wheatley, Dhani Jones, Toomer, Manningham, Feely, Baas, Stevie Brown, etc). We're down to just Leon Hall now and didn't have one in 2015. So I'd love to see us get a Wolverine star on the field.
But: come on, man. The Giants have real needs and last on the list a guy who plays exactly the same position as Landon Collins. I guess it would be awesome to see what you could do with two of them? Honestly, if it were anyone but Jabrill, I'd rather take a QB for the future over a guy who reinforces the strongest spot on the team.
But it's Jabrill though!
I still have hopes he will fall to my Steelers later in the round. We could use someone who can do what Troy Polomalu did from the safety position. Only a HOFer, no pressure Jabrill.
I'll say it for him.
Fuck you!
Guy played the Bowl when everyone else was bitching out and being criticized for not playing cause it doesn't show all kinds of character. Now draft his ass like he was never even hurt, true team player and stud. Total NFL material.
Looks like this mock has him going to Jacksonville Jaguars in the 4th round. It could be a good situation since the Jags just released Julius Thomas, so the job is wide open for Butt's taking.
motherfucker.
That seems like Nick Fairley all over again. Only possibly worse.
Fairly was lazy, Malik is lazy with bad attitude. "Worst interview we ever did" as one scout said.
the awesome profile pic, give em the heater Ricky!
Happening. I say that with misplaced confidence.
he'll fake an injury to avoid being drafted by them...
From what I have seen the Redskins biggest needs in order are:
- D-Line
- Safety
- WR
So there's a good chance that either Taco or Peppers ends up there. Although with J. Allen's recent projected free fall in the draft due to injury concerns, there's almost no way he makes it past Washington either.
Washington played him in that viper role that Peppers filled a lot last season. Have a hard time seeing the R's pick a guy who does what Cravens does but is somewhat smaller.
when they have Su'a Cravens who is bigger and plays the same position Peppers would play in the NFL?
because you don't draft two players in the same position when Cravens played well as a rookie. One of them will get benched and that's a waste of draft picks and roster spot.
All 32 teams to take WRs in the 1st round
edit: nvm I thought it said Matt Millen. Reading is hard
I don't think Gedeon goes before Glasgow.
