Joe Milton Interview

Submitted by UMich2016 on October 10th, 2020 at 10:09 AM

Joe did an interview with his old high school coaches this past week.

Joe was on the show for about 20 minutes talking.  Start at the 1:01:30 mark of this youtube video.

He says he ran a 4.62 the last time they tested him. There's always some bias/home cooking in those numbers, so I imagine it's more like 4.7, which is still pretty good for a guy who's 6'5" and 243 pounds.

Yeah, 4.7 would be great. That's linebacker speed, which would be enough to pick up plenty of first downs. With his size, he could be a battering ram on keepers. When OSU won the title in 2014 I remember Cardale Jones running guys over on keepers and it added a great dynamic to their offense.

Newton, who national outlets compares Milton to because of... reasons, ran a 4.59 at the combine IIRC.

That's more than enough speed to keep defenses honest (assuming the offense seriously uses the QB as a run threat) and Milton's arm is better than most QBs with mobility (it's better than most QBs period).

Just has to read defenses and be accurate. What's so hard about that... O, right.

If he exhibits any sort of a run threat and the ability to roll and throw out of the pocket, it will make this offense so much more dynamic.  He's big enough to draw and get some tough yards.  I really like the potential here.  Just hope he stays healthy!

Super intriguing season just to see Milton progress. It's a developmental year for me anyway, so I have no anxiety. However if he shows great promise this team could be really good next year.

On an unrelated note, my GF just asked me what the date was and I said "hey, it's 10/10, 2020...happens once a century"

Numbers are neat!

EDIT: I just realized it'll never happen again, duh.

I think you'll probably make it to 3/3/33. I hope to make it to 4/4/44, since I'm about a half year older than Harbaugh. 5/5/55 would be a real stretch. I don't think I'll be around in 6/6/66, unless technology improves to keep us going longer, then who knows, I'll try for 7/7/77, since I would like to see the Tricentennial. I'll be 113 for the Tricentennial.
