"Detective" Scott Bell notices something interesting about Twitter activity today from our coaching staff

Submitted by mGrowOld on December 16th, 2020 at 12:50 PM

Looks like one side of the ball is quite active on the Twitters while the other is strangely quiet.

A foreshadowing?

Michigan coaches tweeting during national signing day:

- Ed Warinner
- Josh Gattis
- Sherrone Moore
- Jay Harbaugh

Michigan coaches not tweeting during national signing day:

- Don Brown
- Shaun Nua
- Bob Shoop
- Ben McDaniels

I wouldn't read too much into it.

After all, our defensive coaching staff has a string of 3 straight shutouts on their resume to finish the 2020 season.

Should also look how often those people tweet to begin with. For example, Zordich doesn't tweet all that often so lack of activity from his account could be seen either way. The rest... probably doesn't look well for them

Completely unrelated to the topic I created but based on your comment I couldnt help but share that yesterday, while out for my daily walk I listened to both "Wish you were here" and "Animals".

IMO humble (but correct) opinion "Wish you were here" is the finest album ever recorded by any band at any time.  The cover song is unbelievably haunting and the line "we're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year" is as good as their other lyrical masterpiece "Time" with the unforgettable line capturing lost youth "10 years have gone behind you no one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun."

"Animals" is very interesting and quite dark follow-up to "Wish you were here".  You really need to be in the right mood to appreciate it but IMO is still far superior to their much more well known album "The Wall".

We now return you to our regularly scheduled program.

Disclaimer: big Pink Floyd fan here.  I celebrate their entire collection.

I like "Animals" and "Wish you Were Here" a lot.  My only complaint is that those two albums are a bit too "jam band" style, which wasn't too uncommon for them back then (sans DSOTM).  Each album is about 50 mins long with 5 songs on each album.

If you like the jam band type of Pink Floyd music, I really like Meddle, especially if you want to pair it with a mind-altering substance.  Listen to Pillow of Winds or Fearless, and you'll know what I mean.

Beyond that, I was really impressed with how Pink Floyd evolved over the years and developed a pop sensibility that worked pretty well in the 80s and 90s.  Momentary Lapse of Reason is good example of this.  With that, I think the Pink Floyd album that hits the sweet spot on this spectrum is "The Wall".  Yes, a very popular album, so not very hipster of me.  Overall, its an almost perfect album in that it has the melodic harmony of their legacy jam band songs with a balanced sociopolitical message and just a dash of pop in there.  To me, "Mother" is just the most perfect song in that regard.

I agree with everything you posted with the exception of where you rank The Wall, an album I feel is very uneven and therefore somewhat overrated.

And regarding Animals,  I think MGrowOld nailed it. A wonderful album as long as I'm in the right mood, so dark and foreboding but IMO a masterpiece and one of my 3 favorites, along with Dark Side of The Moon and Meddle.

Another one I really have gotten to love more and more over the last several years is Atom Heart Mother, which while a completely different style of album, I would rank just as highly as The Wall.

This is always a fun debate.

Nua and Jean-Mary really got the shaft here, when it's obvious stubborn Don Brown gave them no room to work.

But a new DC is a no brainer.

I wonder if Kevin Steele from Auburn is an option?

Nua and Jean-Mary really got the shaft here

How so? Nua has been extremely subpar. His greatest achievement was keeping Braiden McGregor in state and besides that, the DL has completely underperformed. Paye and Hutchinson both underachieved this year. BJM has been a good recruiter, but the LBs looked like lost chickens with their heads cut off this year

On its own maybe nothing, but all this chatter (decommits on the D side, not O, etc; I find board chatter suggesting that maybe guys know Nua isn't coming back to be sensible) is adding up to what I think are some reasonable data points.

Seems quite reasonable to think that the entire D staff is getting the axe. The guys aren't totally useless--I think Zordich is good at coaching CBs, Nua appears to be a fine recruiter, and of course Brown was excellent for a few years until our poor talent and the schemes of the league caught up and he fell apart--but I would not be sad to see this kind of overhaul.

Of course, I think the best option is to have a new HC. I'm tired of going into yet another year thinking "Maybe THIS is the year that a Harbaugh team reaches its potential on offense," but lacking that alternative, it's encouraging that the offensive recruits are sticking. If nothing else, gives the next guy something to work with in 2022.

Nua a fine recruiter?  Not sure I am with you on that one.  He got a couple guys who just loved him, but given the need at DT there should have been a long line of Plan A, B, and C guys, instead we got them focusing on two kids in Benny and Rooks who looked like they were desperate to go anywhere but Michigan.

The whole team sucked this year, not just the defense. Overall, the defense has been (much) better than the offense during Harbaugh's tenure.

Right..overall I'd say the offense has been much more underwhelming more often than the defense.  All the rosy shit we heard in 2015 and 2016 about how difficult Michigan was to prepare for and how creative their schemes were...haven't been muttered since 2016.  I'm interested to read the anonymous comments about what other players/coaches though about Michigan from this season.

A lot of optimism on the board with Nua and BJM at first b/c of reputations for recruiting. Both secured four-star commitments who flipped today. Pretty telling!

Any chance Shoop is a candidate for the presumed open DC position?

"Any chance Shoop is a candidate for the presumed open DC position?"

After bailing on the team within a week, or two, of arriving?  After sitting on his couch doing fuck all, while still (presumably) collecting a paycheck for the entire season?  After leaving a 5-star safety alone without coaching over some perceived snit with someone else?  After not being professional enough to sort out some differences and work for the people you agreed to work for?

Yeah, no thanks...

Have we ever figured out what happened with him? Covid related? Living with a high risk family member?

I sincerely thought that when they hired him, there would be times he would work with brown on coordinating a somewhat competent defense against teams like Ohio State that figured out what the mustache was trying to do.

The biggest issue that I thought was the quickest fix was the red zone defense where Michigan could never figure out how to force field goal at times instead of giving up touchdowns. Look what Shoop did with the Mississippi State defense. They were lights out in the red zone.
