đź”’[Covid thread lockdown] Anyone come back from Indy with a little friend? (covid)

Submitted by easyE on December 9th, 2022 at 5:41 PM

I guess I shouldn't have been high-fiving people sitting next to me like it was 2019. I'm not too ill, sorta like a cold. Of course, the victory was worth it. Luckily no one else in my family is ill and we are all vaxxed to the max. So just curious, anyone else get COVID at the game?

Same here..RSV kicked my entire family's ass. Obviously everyone has different symptoms, but at least for us, covid equaled 2 days is slight sniffles... my throat was bleeding from how raw it was from the coughing RSV gave me.

My kids have had influenza A and RSV, and they had a flu shot so 🤷‍♀️.  There is all kinds of shit going around.  Honestly I think what is happening is that the Covid vaccine push was way too much-way too fast, and genuinely unreasonable, that people are balking at vaccinations in general.   I think the net effect of the method of rollout of the Covid vaccine, in the short term, is going to be plummeting uptake of all vaccines and more illness than before.

I think it has to do more with side effects of mask wearing (not saying that masks are bad at all!) During COVID dominance aka 2020-2021 very few people got flu so naturally immunity decreased to that. Add on the fact that RSV generally only infects 2 year olds and 80 year olds w people in between being immune. That whole concept is thrown out the window so now you have RSV and flu infections everywhere w COVID slowing down.

Can’t get vaccinated for RSV and flu shot participation isn’t that high to begin with even pre-pandemic.

I wanted to come home with little friend souvenirs.. like big ten champ or The Game champ shirts... i was very disappointed there were no attire tents anywhere to be found.

My husband and I got it on our trip to the Orange Bowl last year. Lots of people packed together means germ transmission, no matter what the germ is. Hope you recover quickly. My daughter is on her second bout in three months. Very mild symptoms.

Back in November of 2019 I had to get tetanus vax along with the first 2 rabies shots - I was surprised at how relatively pain free it all was. Had to get 5 total shots to complete the rabies vax - which you usually have to go to a hospital to receive. Going in once a week for 3 weeks was the biggest pain.

Oh man, I just got over it last week. I started getting the pain the day after the Iowa game. I had no idea what it was, took Drs a couple weeks to figure it out. Didn't have much of a rash. Just SEVERE nerve pain in my back, left side and lower left abdomen. I don't wish that pain on anyone. Not even a sparty.

I don't understand why they don't give everyone that has ever had chicken pox the shingles vaccine. This could have been avoided. Don't understand why they wait till after you are fifty to get it. I'm not fifty yet, and I know several other people who are under fifty that have had it lately.

I had shingles 3 years ago in my left eye. Definitely wasn’t fun & got into my spine causing transverse myelitis. To this day still don’t have feeling in my feet, down my spine, and around my ribcage…I’ve broken bones, torn rotator cuff, and had TJ surgery, shingles was by far more painful than all of the others…

Ughh, sorry to hear that. I can’t even imagine the pain that would result from getting it in the eye. Mine was actually three different pains. Severe cramp in my back, the worst sun burn ever feeling on my side and it felt like I got stabbed in my stomach. That was unbearable for over a month. Can’t imagine if I had it in my eye.

My eye never really hurt itself, just felt scratchy like I had something in it. The pain was more a stabbing pain behind my ears, where I didn’t have any rash. The pain was worse because it would come and go, that first night with the stabbing pain every 10-15 seconds was pretty dang brutal.

Got the Shingrix double vax after my stepsister battled it for three months. Horrible. No thanks. The vaccines knocked me out for a couple of days with aches and a very sore arm, but that's better than getting a painful rash that won't go away or getting it in your eyes. Again, horrible. No thanks.

My wife and I get the bivalent vaccine and the flu vaccine in September before going to Poland. Coming back on the plane in mid-October, the guy next to her was hacking. And unfortunately, she wasn't wearing a mask, and she came down with Covid. Being in indoor spaces around people is just dangerous, although I'd imagine masking up would help somewhat.

So, the unvaccinated don’t spread it?  And, as far as preventing serious illness — which I agree it does — younger and healthier people don’t have nearly as much use for the vaccine in light of the fact they are much , much less likely to have a serious illness from Covid, right?

Did you actually test yourself, or do you have a symptom that is specific to COVID like loss of taste or smell?  It's very possible that you picked up RSV as that is rampant this year with very similar symptoms.

Our family was there again this year, high fiving and screaming, so if COVID, RSV or the flu was there, I gave it a perfect opportunity to join me in the celebration.  Fortunately, we've all been spared any illness.

Wishing you a speedy recovery!

Right now the COVID variant going around loss of taste or smell is very rare in this variant.  Not saying it might not happen but it is very rare with these variants having loss of smell or taste.      Also I had a bad sinus infection and lost smell for a day but not taste and it wasn't COVID.   Pretty sure all signs and symptoms are still the same except the taste and smell.

Had Covid in Nov 2021 and my taste is still not quite right. Hard to describe. Smell, F'd up still. Skunk & patchouli, I can't really smell anymore. Most perfumes and soaps smell like "chemicals."

Had Covid again in Nov. and had weird smell issues at the beginning, then back to the new normal after a week or so. I don't mind not being able to smell skunk, but scares the crap out of me wondering what causes this and what long term issues may result.

I do smell victory on Dec 31.

When I caught Covid last June, I did not lose my taste or smell. A slight fever and a really bad headache for a couple days. I took plaxovid and it worked. I tested negative on day 3 and was able to go back to work without taking another 7 days off.
