Coach Prime and Colorado - real deal?? (Part Deux)

Submitted by bdogg46 on September 9th, 2023 at 3:36 PM

Last week's post about Prime and the Buffaloes was pretty contentious.

In case you missed it:

https://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/coach-prime-and-colorado-real-deal#comments-section

Lots of doubters and folks saying it was a mirage due to the "abysmal state of TCU's defense" (paraphrased).

Further followed-up by "just wait til they go against Nebraska's defense" (also paraphrased).

The remaining schedule isn't particularly kind with their PAC-12 slate (@Oregon, USC, @ASU, Stanford, UCLA, Oregon St., Arizona, @Washington State, and finally @Utah), but they do get most of them at home including prohibitive league favorite USC.

Hearing most predicted them to be a 1-win team, and the Vegas win total over/under set at 3 - I have to continue to be impressed with this team!

Like Neon Deion or not - but he is building something out West for sure.

Two weeks in a row they've taken care of business.

Nebraska's defense was thought to be good to excellent in the preseason and their defense was the ONLY reason this was a game at all today.

Their offense screwed them and the defense finally gave up points on short fields and attrition took its toll.

Nebraska's defense was 61st to SP+ last year and came into this year with SP+ seeing them as 40th.  They played better than I expected but this was still wasn't a particularly well-regarded defense and that doesn't necessarily take into account the change in coaching philosophy.

Any of you watch the game?   Nebraska could have been up big if not for TOs and self inflicted errors.   It was nothing Colorado did.   They have a good offense when Sanders doesn't have pressure.  You get pressure and that team folds.   Nebraskas Defense held them in check until they got worn out because the offense messed up.   The Buffs looked good once they wore down the Cornhuskers which was about 80% Nebraska own fault.    Colorado hasn't even played anyone yet.

They do have a few players but if this wasn't Prime coaching them no one would be paying attention to them or hyping them up.

Much less disciplined this week, and messier, but they whipped a B1G team and to paraphrase Goff, winning when you're not playing well is what good teams do. I'd be perfectly happy with Michigan beating the Cornholes by 3 TDs.

I disagree. Nebraska has got a good defense, and Colorado still poked through.

I think Nebraska fumbling 5 exchanges was helpful to Colorado, but whatever.

I see them winning 8 or 9 games, probably 5-2 going into that Oregon St. game.

Nonetheless I'm already completely sick of the bandwagon fans, the media coverage, Deion himself, the Heisman hype, all of it. Even my former BFF Joel Klatt is getting on my nerves. I hope to hell I'm wrong and they do crater, because everybody glomming onto this program deserves it.

Watched the game. Nebraska was hot ass. Colorado looked ok - not great. Decent.

But, upon reflection, I think that’s reasonably “real deal”! They’re not going to compete for the championship, but they’ll play competitive football. That’s a pretty big success at Colorado

Also watched the game.

Let's be clear Nebraska's OFFENSE was hot ass.

Their defense was solid first half and held the Buffs in check.  Unlike TCU that everyone said made the Buffs look amazing.

Nebraska's offense really let them down and sacrificed an impressive defensive performance.  The d can only do so much.

I assume you're talking to me?

Yes it is definitely a factor, but calling Nebraska as a whole "hot ass" doesn't tell the whole story.

Their defense was excellent first half and even in the second half, was often given very short fields to defend.

Just clarifying that Nebraska's OFFENSE is hot ass. lol

Sanders is obviously a really good quarterback and Colorado has some real good talent on the team.  When you can run an offense at the speed that Colorado does at that Altitude, you have a real nice advantage.  Might be a short stay for Matt Rhule at Nebraska.

CU looked like trash until Nebraska started coughing the ball up deep in their own end.  Their first scoring drive was about 6 yards, and was with 4 minutes to go in the second quarter.  Good on them to capitalize on the free points, but they didn’t do much until the Nebraska D wore down.  Their average scoring drive was probably about 40 yards.

I will say that their OC has called some nice plays to get guys wide open.

Just going to leave this here. If anyone read my post earlier in the week I’m not saying Hunter is better than or equal to Peppers yet, but he’s a true two way player that’s elite.

I get what Kirk is getting at but by this logic he also has more yards than Woodson.

Peppers had 66 tackles, 13 TFLs, and 3 sacks.  Yes he didn't have a lot of picks but that really wasn't part of his game.  Hunter absolutely deserves to be in NYC if he continues to play like this but Peppers playing a handful of snaps on offense a game vs. a guy who has played 100+ snaps in two straight games is very apples to oranges.

Shorter version - “guy who plays every play gets more stats than guy who played half of the plays.”

Deion really likes to feed his top players, but I don’t know if that pace is sustainable.  I do think if we see Shedeur in the Heisman race, we could see him throw 60+ times in a game late in the season.

Big Coach Prime fan and he exceeded my expectations last week even thought I thought TCU was very overrated based on massive losses on the team ....but relax it's Nebraska.  Whomever said "just wait until Nebraska" must have been living in 1993.  They are probably a rung above Rutgers, Indiana, and Northwestern.

Do this @ Oregon and baby here we go.

If they win 3-4 more games this year it's been a huge first year as all the haters said the transfers are too massive and he is all flash blah blah.  Go Coach Prime! You know he is gonna have offers from a better school this offseason - might be one and done!  Can't buy the free advertising he brings his school - a lot of ADs have to be salivating.

Looks like a whole giant section got Nuked.

Probably the section where someone brought the race card into the Anti-Coach prime sentiment.

Even so, there are still a couple comments on it.

And no, don't want to post about Colorado every week.  However, the first post was a bunch of shit-talking about the Buffs so this was in response to said shit-talking.

If you don't want to read it, scroll on.  You cared so much you even commented on the post.

As I said in the other thread, I think they are a top 20-25 team.  I see 3-4 losses in their future.

Great turn around from coach Prime but they aren't as good as the hype.

I’m pretty sure nobody was saying “just wait til they get Nebraska”. Nebraska is a year zero tire fire.

That said CU definitely seems ahead of schedule.

Again, click the previously posted link.

It was sprinkled throughout.  Plenty of people said TCU's defense was trash and that Nebraska would hold them in check.

They did throughout the first half and even held tough despite short fields in the second.

Seems like it? Beat a ranked team and already doubled the win total from last season by beating a ranked team and a big ten team.

Let me put it this way, if Michigan played them this or next season they’d be trying to get out of the matchup somehow lol.
