I disagree with TN above us, but I can understand it, and I said last night I wouldn't be shocked if it happened.  However, OSU has no business being ranked #2, and Ole Miss should be ahead of Bama.

That's what I said in the other thread, which might be taken down due to duplication. I don't buy into the Vols who gave up 49 points to a sub par 'Bama team who almost lost to Texas earlier this season.

Adding more insult, the Vols got 15 first place votes and only 2 less than the Buckeyes. The Playoff Committee would see it differently as they would place value on the more balanced teams like Michigan. We'd be a shoe-in at #3.

The Vols have 2 very tough teams to beat: KY and at Georgia. I hope they get smoked!

I’m fine with this, because they’re going to have to get the license plate of the dump truck that is going to drive over them on November 5th in Athens.

Yes! The poll that matters is yet to come.

We can treat the AP poll like candy, fun to discuss and all, but entirely void of value. When the CFP poll is released the AP poll will become so irrelevant that nobody pays attention to it anymore. So no sense in getting worked up over it...this is not the MNC era.

This is fine.  I think Michigan is better than Tennessee and would pick Michigan on a neutral field, but I think Tennessee deserves a higher ranking based on the games they have played thus far.  In fact, given the latter criteria, Tennessee should probably be #1.

Not surprising. I always saw Michigan dropping behind Clemson as punishment for Michigan’s first half against Indiana rather than praise for Clemson. Michigan dominating the #10 school should have more than made up for one mediocre half a week ago. Plus, Clemson allowed FSU to make the score look ho-hum.

Clemson likely jumps us with a win next week against Syracuse but I think Cuse could beat them they look pretty good this year. Tough ask though to go to Death Valley to get the win. Already looking forward to the State game the players have that one circled. Think we’ll be looking to score lots of points in that one.

Let's say Clemson losses to Syracuse.

Michigan SMOKES OSU and wins the B1G Championship Game. (or Michigan beats OSU and PSU beats OSU...I just like the first option better)

Georgia beats Tennessee.

Alabama beats Georgia.

...could it be #1 Michigan and three 1-loss schools from the SEC?

In this Gary Danielson wet dream...

Michigan would be 1.

Bama would be 2, because they lost on the road and got the extra game/win over the SEC East Champion.

Georgia would be #3, setting up an auto rematch of the SEC Championship Game.

Tennessee would be #4 (over OSU).

Yuck, I'm gonna go shower now.

Alabama could only beat Georgia in a conference championship game. So, why would either one advance if Michigan and Ohio State met as undefeateds in a non-championship game? Why would the SEC teams be playoff eligible instead of a one-loss Big Ten team especially if they were ranked No. 1 & 2 when they played? The logic is bewildering. I get the voting bias but not based on an available record of achievement.

USC lost to Utah last night on a gutsy final drive by the Utes in which they gambled on a two-point conversion to avoid overtime and hand the Trojans a 1 pt. loss. There was little defense played in that game, yet USC didn't give up 7 touchdowns or 52 points. And Alabama got first place votes.

Tennessee plays Georgia in three weeks. Alabama still has some teams to get through including LSU, Miss St. and Ole Miss. Michigan's win over OSU at home last season was more impressive than Tenn's last-second field goal victory over the Crimson Tide which missed an earlier tie-breaking field goal of their own.

The point is, no team has shown strength on both sides of the ball like Michigan, and you know the voters are just looking for a minor screw up to send the Wolverines packing. This voting is horseshit.

The voters do know that Saban left Michigan State with only one decent 9-2 season in 1999 to show for his five year career as Sparty's head coach. He did beat Brady in his final game against Michigan 34-31, in a season in which the Wolverines finished 10-2. You could wonder why he left. I always thought he went to LSU because he was getting out-recruited by Lloyd Carr. One books says he wanted to come back to East Lansing to coach after leaving because he didn't like Louisiana. Whatever. He made his bones in SEC but not in the Big Ten. The voters can shove it.

MSU was under sanctions for his first four years and only had like 70 scholarships per year.  He had a bunch of 6/7-win seasons but that was respectable under the circumstances.  1999 was the only year they had the full 85, and he went 9-2.  He was considered a rising star and could have been a thorn in our side, but Sparty was too cheap to match LSU's offer.

So of course last year they handed $95 million to Tucker at the slightest hint of LSU interest.

Not sure I’d have Tennessee above Michigan at this point, but I understand it. At least we got rewarded for beating the snot out of PSU by leapfrogging Clemson again.

Illinois is up to #18. Their next 3 games before Michigan are: @ Nebraska, MSU, and Purdue. Could they be a top-10 team when they play Michigan?
