A D-1 school is about to beat an unranked team? Okay.
November 9th, 2019 at 10:38 PM ^
Do what again? win? They were a ranked team and favored to win.
November 9th, 2019 at 10:41 PM ^
No they aren't lol. And South Carolina was favored by 6
November 9th, 2019 at 11:26 PM ^
Technically he was right they were a ranked team before they lost.
November 9th, 2019 at 10:38 PM ^
Why do people keep trying to discount the biggest upset ever? Just stop talking about it and move on.
November 9th, 2019 at 10:44 PM ^
All the OP is saying is that SCAR is about to join the club.
It happened. We won the rematch and they've done big things since. The better they do the worse we'll feel about it. They already beat UNC and were ranked in October unlike MSU (lol)
November 9th, 2019 at 10:47 PM ^
I'd like to respond to this but I can't figure out where to start.

What club?? App St was ranked as late as last week. This is barely an upset. WTF are you talking about? Go back to peddling merch.
November 9th, 2019 at 10:53 PM ^
The biggest upset ever was Harbaugh's Stanford over USC in 2007. Our App game never had a spread.
November 9th, 2019 at 11:59 PM ^
The unofficial line was 33 points so Stanford’s upset was a lot bigger. It just doesn’t feel like it.

TOLEDO WAS WORSE!
/s
November 10th, 2019 at 12:35 AM ^
Strictly in football terms, 2008 Toledo was almost certainly a worse team than 2007 App State. But the loss wasn't as bad in terms of perception.
November 10th, 2019 at 1:34 AM ^
Perception also told me a week ago penn state would roll Minnesota. Perception thought we would give OSU hell last year. Perception is a moron.
November 10th, 2019 at 5:17 AM ^
Toledo was 3-9 that year (2-6) in the MAC. It was the absolute low point of any Michigan football that I can remember. It was also the first year I had season tickets for my wife & my 2 young boys. We made it through 3 years of RR & 3 years of BH before I couldn't take it anymore. Congrats to everyone else who did. People sometimes forget just how bad it was before Harbaugh got here.
November 10th, 2019 at 7:36 AM ^
I can't imagine takin 4 family members to every game , I go to one game a year , ticket 75$/Parking 50$/MDEN 150$/Food $100 , and that is me and the wife , of course , I am retired on a fixed budget
November 10th, 2019 at 10:02 AM ^
You can park for free in the neighborhoods. You don't have to hit the MDen or buy overpriced, nasty food at the stadium. There...I just got you to two more games a year. You are welcome.
November 10th, 2019 at 9:01 AM ^
People frequently forget that because it gets in the way of their outrage. “UNACCEPTABLE!”
November 10th, 2019 at 10:35 AM ^
Toledo was way worse. App St was more surprising because back then most UM fans had no idea who App St was even though they were a solid FCS team. Toledo was like rock-bottom the worst, losing to a shitty MAC team with no end to the failures of the coaching staff/team in sight. App St was “oh shit, the team didn’t take this one game seriously.”
November 10th, 2019 at 11:21 AM ^
You and the other like-minded people in this thread should ask yourselves this question:
Which loss is remembered all these years later? Appalachian State or Toledo?
It's Appalachian State and it's not even close.
MAC teams beat Big Ten teams every so often. It's not newsworthy even when the MAC team is mediocre / lousy.
2008 was the worst year for Michigan football in the modern era. That Toledo game was just one of many catastrophes.
The 2007 team was considered a national championship contender and had several players picked in the NFL draft the following spring.
Appalachian State lost to Georgia Southern and Wofford that year.
Please.

STFU with this.
There is no comparison and wont be until Citadel beats #1 Notre Dame in week 1.
November 9th, 2019 at 10:41 PM ^
Eh. #5 Notre Dame.
November 10th, 2019 at 9:03 AM ^
Maybe I’m a bad guy but I honestly don’t think much about the app state game until it’s brought up.
it sucked, but the bear decade of pain afterword masked it. Like having shingles before cancer.
November 9th, 2019 at 10:40 PM ^
Prevent d is gonna lose them the game
November 9th, 2019 at 10:43 PM ^
OP is just getting around to watching the BB Opener on DVR.
Relax, it ends OK
November 9th, 2019 at 10:44 PM ^
App State is shitting away this game by playing the softest, most conservative defense, allowing three 4th down conversions, twice completely ignoring the RB out of the backfield.
EDIT: They got lucky as hell that the Carolina QB overthrew a wide open receiver in the end zone.
November 9th, 2019 at 10:45 PM ^
Holy shit the SC dude was WIDE open.

I watched the last five minutes of this one. Major shocker that the commentators never once mentioned the horror. I kept waiting for them to show a clip of it and then mention it several more times. Pleasant surprise.

LSU lost to Troy. That was a bigger upset than this.

Speaking of SEC teams losing to non-Power 5 teams:
Arkansas got murdered by Western Kentucky 45-19 (it wasn't even really that close, it was 38-7 after 3 Quarters) earlier today.
Arkansas, in the last 2 years, is 0-14 in SEC play and has OOC losses to all of Colorado State, San Jose State, North Texas and WKU. All of the last 3 at home.
Yikes, things have gone downhill at Arkansas.

The Chad Morris Era is...not going well.
November 9th, 2019 at 11:08 PM ^
And Chad Morris was supposed to be the offensive genius behind Clemson's rise. On every fan base's wish list then.

As we have learned painfully, there is no national championship coach store.
November 9th, 2019 at 11:13 PM ^
One of my clients --- we have a standing weekly call, the 2 guys on the client end are Arkansas and SMU alums.
2 weeks ago, college football came up and the Arkansas guy goes off "yeah, nice game we had against Alabama last weekend, it was 42-0 after about 20 minutes. And what the hell Patrick, who is this Coach you sent us? Guess we should have known though, the guy had a well below .500 record at SMU. But we hire him! Should have just kept Big Bret."

I was at the game earlier this year when Central Arkansas beat Western Kentucky at WKU. Arkansas losing at home to WKU is hilarious.
November 9th, 2019 at 11:26 PM ^
I feel like people don’t know that app state now is a fbs team and has full 82 scholarship players....when they beat us they were in a different division.
November 9th, 2019 at 11:34 PM ^
So they are allowed 3 fewer scholarships than the rest of FBS? Super unfair...oh, the horror ;(
November 9th, 2019 at 11:52 PM ^

November 10th, 2019 at 12:31 AM ^
App State has been one of the better G5 teams for a while now. They already beat UNC this year and took PSU to overtime last year. South Carolina was favored by 6, that's hardly a big upset.
November 10th, 2019 at 12:49 AM ^
App State - King of the Carolinas!
November 10th, 2019 at 12:35 AM ^
This is a much more significant and memorable victory than the one where they beat Michigan. Surely this is the one that should forever be remembered. Now we can forget what happened at the start of the 2007 season.
November 10th, 2019 at 8:19 AM ^
Not even remotely the same but sure
