Breaking - Tate Forcier Ineligible for Gator

Submitted by rlew on

Per Angelique and others...

"Did not meet University standards" per UM media relations (via MVictors) .

UPDATE: Angelique suggests grades are the issue.

But here's where we really miss Zoltan.  If Denard gets hurt, I'd have ZERO problem employing a "punt on 1st down" approach with the Space Emperor.  Frankly, I think we should have punted earlier and more often with Zoltan.

Ugh!  I still support Tate, but if it is true that it is grades again, it is very disappointing.  The kid apparently struggled in the offseason to keep his grades up and has continued to do so during the year.  I'm not going to get all high and mighty, but he has access to the type of resources that should prevent this from happening, and for it to (apparently) be a repeat is inexcussable.

If he does, he's in a much better position than a lot of students on campus.  Athletes have tons and tons and tons of resources at the Ross Center and elsewhere in order to manage their coursework.  They have counselors, mentors, tutors, and an exclusive facility to address their needs.

There's really no reason for an athlete to become academically ineligible, although there's an argument to be made that athletes perhaps get too much of an advantage over the rest of the student body in terms of academic support services.

fucking-christ people.  They ask that if you are going to make a comment and act like its a fact that at least you back it up with something.

Example:   Bad-Mike Martin is gonna go pro.

Good-Mike Martin may go pro.  Attach Link.

It's not just that he put his teammates in the lurch, it's that the news comes out two days after he runs his mouth in the press about how not flunking is "not that hard, all you have to do is go to class."

Tate has to know he's under a microscope.  He knows how important his role on this team became as the season progressed.  Keep your grades up, and for God's sake, if you're not going to do it (after all, there's no way you don't know if you're teetering on the edge of dropping below the minimum), don't give a quote like that in the media.

Does the NCAA frown upon a school who applies for a medical redshirt for a kid with a "back problem", only to watch said applicant play in a bowl game out of necessity?

Rich Rodriquez should never, ever play the lotto.  Unfortunate guy.

It seems like every bad break that could possibly to RR has happened. I think its obvious that JH is coming in next year considering DB silence and JH not signing his extension. I hope UM wins convincingly because it would be hard to fire an 8-5 coach who wins a Jan.1 bowl. Here's hoping RR catches a break on Sat. Go Blue! Go RR!

If it makes anyone feel better, sources tell me that Jack Kennedy tears it up as the scout team QB every week. Of course, he's tearing up our awful defense, but he's a smart kid who I would feel fine with playing instead of burning DG's medical redshirt.

This is where the DB "decision" gets fairly interesting.  The long term interests of RR and Michigan might differ at this juncture.  RR wants to win this game.  Period.  Next year isn't much of a concern to RR at this point.  Michigan wants long term success of the program (and another year of Devin could bring that).  RR is also bright enough to know that his tenure in A2 could be coming to an end.  Does it make any difference to him if Devin plays?  Not really.  It also might be a little "fuck you" to his boss who let him twist in the wind for the last month.

On the other hand, whatever we think of the "decision", DB is doing a good thing for RR in letting him finish the season with his team.  I want RR gone, but believe he's earned the right to win this game (which I fully expect to happen) with his guys.  I just hope he isn't too pissed should Denard tweak something.

Go Blue!  And stay healthy Denard!

It would strike me as out of character for RR to give a "fuck you" to his boss, especially because it would be a "fuck you" to both this program but more importantly the student athletes he's helped developed.

Also, I think RR has treated this game as if it's his last game of the season, and has continued to coach and develop the players for next year. Pragmatically, if this game is a referendum on his tenure here, he'd want to still set himself up for the long term by keeping Gardner out.

That's not to say he wouldn't put Gardner in just to be a jerk, but I'd be very surprised if he did and it would be very out of character for a guy who's done nothing but emanate class in his time here.

Second the "stay healthy" sentiment. GO BLUE!

I hope you're right.  I really don't see the game as a referendum on his tenure...more of an exhibiition plus.  If the situation were to come up, I'm sure it might be a bit tempting to him, but I do think he's got an eye out for the best interests of his kids.  So, in that manner, it would be surprising if he put Devin in.  Maybe we're all forgetting that Denard, being healthy, is probably too fast for anyone to catch and tackle.

Come on Dahblue, I know you do not support RR and I can't blame you, but :

RR is also bright enough to know that his tenure in A2 could be coming to an end.  Does it make any difference to him if Devin plays?  Not really.  It also might be a little "fuck you" to his boss who let him twist in the wind for the last month.

is making this petty and childish.  You may be vindictive, but not everyone thinks the same way.  The coaching profession is a small world.  Whether RR plays him or not, we can always recruit another QB.  It is not the end of the world if Devin plays.
