OT: UM Early Admissions Decisions
I just thought I should share some good news with the rest of the MGoCommunity, a lot of negativity has been going on lately, but today I was given the opportunity to attend the University of Michigan in the form of an acceptance e-mail. It has always been my dream to attend UM, and once it became painfully apparent I would not be the next Braylon Edwards, I went for the more academic route, and it's great that I can finally realize that dream. 'Tis the season for a lot of great news coming to high school seniors.
Go Blue!
P.S. No, I cannot kick field goals either, sorry.

Congratulations, enjoy senioritis for now and Ann Arbor the next four years!
December 16th, 2010 at 5:11 PM ^
If I may give a piece of unsolicited advice, do all that you can to stretch those 4 years into 5. I would give my left arm to be a Michigan undergrad for one more year!
(And, yes, definitely stop bringing books home or studying in any way, shape, or form for these next 5-6 months. There'll be plenty of that coming very soon . . . )

Leaving college in four years is like leaving a party at midnight.
December 16th, 2010 at 5:13 PM ^
I left in 4.
/ hangs head in shame
December 16th, 2010 at 5:19 PM ^
Worse than leaving in 4 is actually feeling that, at the time, graduating college is a great accomplishment, only to realize years later it is actually like aaaMichFan describes - leaving a raging party at midnight.
December 16th, 2010 at 5:19 PM ^
Unless you're not from MI and can hardly afford another year of out-of-state tuition
December 16th, 2010 at 5:27 PM ^
He is I and I is him. The additional school loans it would have taken to stay another year would have been so worth it.
December 16th, 2010 at 6:31 PM ^
My solution as an out of state student: graduate in 3.5 and stay in Ann Arbor for the second semester of your senior year. That way, you can fit 2 semesters worth of partying into 1, making it effectively 4.5 years for the price of 3.5. Granted, I don't get another season, but considering the price of out-of-state student season tickets is effectively 45k/year...shouldn't I be getting pretty close to a luxury box with that?

Just get a ton of AP credit (I mean a ton) and then stay 5 years and maybe work part time. You have so much free time in college it is insane. Do like the B school does and spend a ton of time interviewing.
December 16th, 2010 at 7:42 PM ^
took me 6.5. That is like leaving the party after dude's parents get home.
Hangs head in shame.
December 16th, 2010 at 10:03 PM ^
That's what it's gonna take for me to graduate with all the majors I want...damn triple majoring.
December 16th, 2010 at 7:48 PM ^
I too left in 4 but i had a good reason. My father said he would pay for 100% of my undergraduate education for four years and four years only, after that it was on me.
I loved Michigan but I love my wallet more. Out in 4.
December 16th, 2010 at 7:50 PM ^
but zero debt.
December 16th, 2010 at 9:18 PM ^
me too... does grad school count? I did 4 more years of that..
December 17th, 2010 at 8:32 AM ^
and counting when including undergrad and now grad (PhD).
December 16th, 2010 at 5:20 PM ^
I just graduated last May. I currently am in grad school(not at Michigan). Not the same at all. :(
December 16th, 2010 at 5:54 PM ^
....which is exactly why i came back for three years of graduate school. best. decision. everrrrrrr.
December 16th, 2010 at 9:15 PM ^
Agreed. Thats why I did a Master's of Accounting and stretched it to 5. Living the dream for the next 9 months. Baller.
December 16th, 2010 at 9:29 PM ^
Great way to stretch your undergrad time, and get some real-world experience. I've interviewed/hired a lot of co-op students and new graduates for entry level positions - work experience while pursuing a degree is of high value.
December 16th, 2010 at 5:37 PM ^
haha, so true. go for the victory lap if at all possible.
December 16th, 2010 at 5:42 PM ^
Or better yet, never leave. I have a few friends who stretched four years into 24 years. Wish I had been that smart.
December 16th, 2010 at 5:52 PM ^
...if you and your family can afford it.
If you must graduate in 4 years, apply to grad school at Michigan for an additional 2+ years!
December 16th, 2010 at 5:36 PM ^
Thank you, sir, and thank you to all of the kind commenters, it is really great to have the opportunity to attend such a fine institution with such a great alumni base. All the advice is awesome too! Pos-bangs for everyone!
December 16th, 2010 at 9:52 PM ^
6 is better.
U of M has plenty of great grad schools.
And your football ticket priority will get better every year.
Congratulations!
December 16th, 2010 at 4:52 PM ^
Can you play safety?
December 16th, 2010 at 5:19 PM ^
As a backup safety JV year, I only played after we were down by five touchdowns. I did record 2 career tackles though!
I am about 6'1", 6'2" though so I have that I guess. No stubby legs.
December 16th, 2010 at 5:34 PM ^
Get Barwisized! Congrats, Dude.
December 16th, 2010 at 5:47 PM ^
Kicker anyone?
December 17th, 2010 at 12:10 AM ^
Hello: White Tiger?
December 17th, 2010 at 6:47 AM ^
that's all that really matters for white defensive players (tiger or human). We can never have enough grit on that side of the ball. When you get on campus, look up that Kovacs fella. He can learn you on the ways of grit application. good luck and may the grit be with you.
December 16th, 2010 at 4:52 PM ^
Congratulations and welcome to the Michigan family! You have 4 really awesome years ahead. I'm really jealous of you right now. Go Blue!
December 16th, 2010 at 4:53 PM ^
As a Michigan graduate I congratulate you and envy you at the same time. Great experience... live it up. Oh yeah, don't miss a game.
December 16th, 2010 at 5:00 PM ^
December 16th, 2010 at 4:55 PM ^
UM admittance or 6800 MGoPoints before finishing high school?? Answer truthfully!!
Oh yeah...Congrats! You'll have the best 4 years of your life. Live them up.
December 16th, 2010 at 5:02 PM ^
It seems that those points should be convertible to AP credits somewhere, doesn't it?
December 16th, 2010 at 5:06 PM ^
Mgopoints can be applied to Hist 265: History of the University of Michigan
December 16th, 2010 at 5:25 PM ^
Yeah but that's a crap deal because it means you start paying upperclass tuition earlier.
December 16th, 2010 at 5:31 PM ^
...and you might have to graduate sooner!
But there are two sides to every coin...
You get better student ticket seats.
December 17th, 2010 at 10:08 PM ^
better than AP credits is that with that many points you must be strong and smart and everyone must like you. So the ladies at michigan will love you.
December 16th, 2010 at 5:29 PM ^
The MGoPoints are very near and dear to my heart but I would give them all up in a heartbeat if it meant that I can go to Michigan. Thankfully I don't have to do that!
December 16th, 2010 at 4:54 PM ^
Probably the best x-mas present you will ever get!
December 16th, 2010 at 4:56 PM ^
There's a time and a place for everything, and it's called college.
Enjoy the 4 greatest years of your life.
Unless you're like Thomas Callahan. Then it'll be the 7 greatest years.
December 16th, 2010 at 5:07 PM ^
Tommy: A lot of people are in school for 7 years.
Richard: Yeah, they're called "doctors."
December 16th, 2010 at 6:23 PM ^
Took me 8! And that was online - not nearly as fun as being a real undergrad I am sure. Here at Michigan for grad school now, so I guess i get a little taste.

cross your fingers for north quad.
December 16th, 2010 at 4:56 PM ^
is only for upperclassmen(soph to seniors).
If I was a freshman, I would want Markley. All freshmen, central campus and close to CCRB. Perfect dorm for freshmen IMO. Bursley isn't bad as long as you get used to the bus rides.
December 16th, 2010 at 4:59 PM ^
you're probably right. but i think he should still cross his fingers.
also, i lived in markley. the rooms are TINY and it's one hell of a walk to football games. sQuad my soph year was much better.
December 16th, 2010 at 5:07 PM ^
but for social reasons, I would want Markley. It's convenient because of the location to the parties, classes, CCRB and Mojo Diniing Hall. It's all freshmen so you have a chance to meet new people as well.
