Yes I would.  I love both sports, each in their own way.  Forcing me to choose between the two would be like forcing a parent to choose between their two children.

As a Seattle resident, I was hoping this was a post about Michigan potentially playing against the Washington Huskies in the Rose Bowl.  That'd be a great matchup, and a fun little preview of 2020-2021.

Given that the Indiana game is Senior Day, and is the last home game our 2018-19 senior captains will be playing, I'd be plenty happy to let them get the full spotlight for this game.

In Chip Kelly's offense, less than a year removed from a spine injury, I don't think Speight 2018's ceiling is even close to 2016 Wilton Speight.

I'm rooting for the kid, but I just hope he makes it through the season in one piece.

Godspeed Wilton.

08/02/2018 - 8:23pm Nobody gets medals for doing…

Nobody gets medals for doing what you should be doing.  Michigan is doing (as far as we know) what we should be doing, at a baseline human level.  Just because some of our rivals aren't, doesn't mean we lower our standard.  Gratitude is meaningful (as I've stated above), but celebration is moronic.

08/02/2018 - 8:15pm Indeed!

I'd surmise that after attending Marquette, all of Majerus' shits were henceforth consecrated, thus making them, quite literally, Holy Shits.

I haven't seen a smear campaign this bad since when Rick Majerus shat in a towel, used it to wipe his ass, and then handed it to a team manager.

08/02/2018 - 7:19pm This is not something to…

This is not something to celebrate.  There are no winners here, only broken victims whose lives will never be the same.  We all lose whenever these types of events occur, be at Michigan or at our greatest rivals.

08/02/2018 - 6:55pm While I'm grateful that…

While I'm grateful that Michigan hasn't had a scandal in recently memory along the lines of our regional "State" schools, I'm also terrified that it may just be a matter of time before our administration is confronted with a challenge in this area.

Michigan's handling of the Brendan Gibbons situation left a lot to be desired (imho).  The change at the top of the athletic department has restored some of my confidence.  And yes, the difference, so far, has been that Gibbon's situation was a single incident (that we know of), compared to massive patterns of abuse at OSU/MSU/PSU supported by a system that's been bastardized to protect belligerents.

Bad people are going to do bad things.  Even good people will do bad things.  That's just human nature.  What I hope, from the bottom of my heart, is that when the bad things inevitably happen at Michigan, our administration confronts them with honesty, transparency, zero tolerance for the belligerent, and compassion and support for the victim(s).  THAT is truly the Michigan Difference.

I like Hipmunk and Kayak as places to get a pulse on the market.  When I find the specific airline/flight that I want, I go to the airline's site and book there.

If you're planning ahead, start checking flights and prices as soon as you can.  Get an idea of how far it may drop and how far it may rise.  When you feel comfortable with a price, make the buy.

In terms of price variance through the week, Tuesdays tend to have the lowest prices in the week.

The legal process will have to take it's course.

But given the existing context, both with MSU and the basketball program itself, there seems to be waaaaaaaaay too much smoke for anyone objective to be able to flatly deny the allegations.

03/21/2018 - 7:27pm Actually I was making a joke

Actually I was making a joke about how some football players mistakenly called William Gholston "Tom" during his recruiting visit, thus leading to Gholston heading to State despite growing up a Michigan fan.  Nothing to do with the Tom Anderson who founded myspace.

for future reference, its pretty easy to embed if you're on a computer (and not on the app)

  1. Get the embed code from instagram (hidden under the ... icon at the bottom right), hit embed, and then click 'copy embed code'
  2. Come to mgoblog and open up the edit/create post experience
  3. Switch to the plain text editor
  4. Paste in the embed code verbatim
  5. Switch back to the HTML editor and make sure that there isn't a big red X
  6. Post
  7. Profit!

This works with any content that has an option to download html embed code (e.g. Youtube, Instagram, Twitter, etc)

Or maybe I've just seen so much coverage on this issue (don't get me wrong - it needs to be publicized) that I'm numb to it at a certain level.

01/29/2018 - 4:25pm The whataboutism is rollicking

In an attempt at a conversely good faith argument, here's why the Celtics, Fighting Irish, etc mascots and nicknames are nowhere as demeaning as Chief Wahoo, the Washington Redskin, etc.  And yes, the term is demeaning, not offensive.

Celtics, Fighting Irish, etc are self-designated monikers.  By that I mean that the name came from the founders' self image.  Irish Catholics founded Notre Dame and created that logo to represent themselves.  The Celtics were created in a city populated heavily by Irish immigrants who have long been vociferous supporters of the team.

On the other hand, the Cleveland Indians were not created by native Americans, and neither were the Washington Redskins.  The imagery and nomenclature associated with them was generated due in large part to racist and derogatory stereotypes.

You're allowed to lampoon yourself as much as you'd like.  But you can't demean others and accuse them of being wrongfully offended.

As a person of color whose ancestors were subjugated, exploited, discriminated against, and often murdered by white oppressors, I sure do love it when the descendants of those white oppressors tell me how I should and should not feel about symbols, nomenclature, and imagery that normalize and white-wash the sins of the past and continue to cast us in a sub-human light!

01/29/2018 - 2:31pm About. Damn. Time.

There's nothing "great" or "best" about a racist caricature.  Chief Wahoo will go down in history with minstrelsy, blackface, and slanty-eyed gestures.

Good riddance.

I'd been running with my old 42" plasma since 2009, so I figured I'd earned an upgrade.  And if I was gonna spend some money, I figured I might as well go big and be set for another 5-10 years.

It helps that I've been working full-time in software for that entire time, so I had the cash saved to be able to afford it.

But 4K is such a quantum leap, especially when it comes to gaming (yes I'm a filthy casual).  I notice so much more stuff, so many more details.

I gave myself a 65" OLED 4K TV and an Xbox One X (for the 4K output) as a combo holiday/birthday present, and they arrived right before Christmas.  I spent the break watching sports and playing games.  It was ... it was awesome.

In possibly related news, I gained more than a couple pounds over the holiday break.
