Way OT: What Songs Get You Pumped?

Submitted by NomadicBlue on

So, in an effort to get back into some sort of shape (other than round), I have started exercising again recently.  My wife even has me training for a half marathon in the spring (I can only comfortably do 4 - 5 miles right now).  I borrowed the wife's iPod for a run yesterday and she toldme , "I already have a good running mix in the Playlist."  Perfect (I thought).  Unfortunately, I ended up skipping over half of the songs - way too much cheesey pop and too many slower tempo songs.  I decided that I need my own playlist and started making a list off the top of my head this morning - a little more difficult than I thought.

So, I decided to tap into the knowledge of the MGoCommunity for some help.  Toss out some ideas people.  The only type of music that I am not really into is country (yes I even like pop despite what I said earlier - there's just a limit to how much Justin Timberlake should be on any single mix, and that limit is low for me).  Pretty much everything else is on the table - from metal to classical to drum corps.  The only thing you don't have to suggest is "Hail To the Victors" (I have a pretty nice extended live version of it from when the MMB visited my high school back in the day - circa 1996).

So pony up ladies and gentlemen, and let me know what gets you pumped up whether it be to work out, make a sale (ala Dwight Shrewt), or simply gets you amped for a game.  I'll start compiling a list for myself in a couple days, so keep 'em coming.

Also, if you are going to embed a song or video, please at least include the name somewhere - I can't view video or hear audio (from the internet) on my machine at work.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Mama Said Knock You Out.  I know it's extremely overdone, but everytime that song plays on my ipod, I think of the youtube tribute featuring our '06 game against ND.

Hearing it keeps my fat ass moving.

Any music from the 27 Rocky movies is great.  Also, The Final Countdown is the single greatest pump up song in the history of history......that or Space Jam.

that it gets any better than the first minute of so of "Welcome to the Jungle" when it comes to getting fired up.

I sincerely hope that the PA system blasts that at the start of the 1stquarter, as darkness (hopefully) descends, during the 1st night game next year...gives me goosebumps just thinking about it!

I'm all over the map:

Rawkfist and Move by Thousand Foot Krutch

Still Frame - Trapt

The Game - Disturbed

Top Back -T.I.

Tuck Ya Ice - Trick Daddy

Shut It Down - Pit Bull

HuH - 4 Minute

My dirty secret is I'll sometimes crank up the Jimmy Eat World or Live to get pumped out.  If you put enough bass behind them.  My really really shameful secret is that Take It Off by Kesha is great work out music with the bass up.

I'm big on Bleed American, but The Sweetness is good.

My main memory of J.E.W. was this one girl in my high school humanities used to wear a Jimmy Eat World skirt constant and she was very well endowed for a junior.  Very nice C cups and she never wore a bra.  The way the room was arrange our desks were at right angles, so I could just stare straight ahead and spend the entire period in a happy, happy place.  I don't remember her name, but I remember the shirt perfectly.   So cranking J.E.W. takes me back.

"Sober" by Tool (listened to this walking in to the bar exam. And while working out. Yeah, I know that makes me kind of a meathead).

"Diary of Jane"- Breaking Benjamin

"Got the Life"- Korn

"Panic Switch"- Silversun Pickups

"Black," from Live on Two Legs- Pearl Jam (I know; it's a slow ballad, but the guitar solo absolutely screams and is incredible in this live version)

"Helena"- My Chemical Romance (guilty pleasure)

"Neighborhood #3 (Power Out)"- The Arcade Fire

"We Came to Dance"- The Gaslight Anthem

"One Big Holiday"- My Morning Jacket

I'm definitely going to check out some of the suggestions people have made; am always looking for new workout tunes, as mine have become a little stale over the past few years.

Much of what I feel would be obligatory has already been posted several times, such as RATM (particular deference to The Ghost of Tom Joad), Pantera, several rap acts such as T.I., Eminem, D12, etc.

However, I am noticing a distinct lack of Big Beat.  I don’t understand why this music isn’t more popular than it is.  One poster mentioned The Prodigy, which, hell yeah.  Omen, Spitfire, Breathe, Smack My Bitch Up, Firestarter

Others in this genre include The Crystal Method – Smartbomb, The Winner, and Name of the Game; and The Chemical Brothers - Under the Influence, Setting Sun, Let Forever Be, It Began in Afrika, and Galvanize.

From other genres, Marilyn Manson can be good; my favorites include Fight Song, This is the New Shit and Rock is Dead

Rob Zombie – Super Charger Heaven, Superbeast

Busta Rhymes – Break Ya Neck, Gimme Some More, This Means War!!, Iz They Wildin’ Wit Us

Blind Guardian

Symphony X

Dragonforce

Very fast, very epic. Nice long songs for a long run.

Take this advice with a grain of salt though as I try to avoid running at all costs.

Chelsea Dagger by the Fratellis

BOB By Outkast

Beware of the Boys by Punjabi MC

This is a great topic!  Thanks for posting it.

I have found a lot to add to my collection.

One that I thought of that I didn't see posted is "Ladies and Gentlemen" by Saliva.  Great song to get pumped up.
