Probably late to the game…

Probably late to the game here but I agree with those who said to opt for skiing. The wife and I, both in our 40s, tried downhill for the first time last year and had a blast. We got group  lessons, which I recommend, but were fortunate that we were the only first timers so we basically got individual attention.

I too skated a lot in my teens to my early 20s and one of my friends had warned me about snowboarding because you can't bail when you are about to fall. I took his advice and was thankful watching beginner snowboarders wipeout a lot. Downhill skiing is a ton of fun and I don't see the need for the unnecessary frustration of a steep learning curve at our age.

San Francisco fan so just…

San Francisco fan so just want them to win. I think it should be a good game regardless of who you favor.

We watch the SB as a family event every year. This year we ordered some pastrami from Katz’s deli and the brother in-law is bringing some bread from Zingerman’s. Obviously, there will be some other food but that’s the main course.

Griese had a good chance at…

Griese had a good chance at a SB if Lovie had the balls to pull Grossman at half.

Bill Walsh. He wrote the bible for running an nfl team: “Finding the Winning Edge”, was innovative, and his coaching tree reflects how great he was at identifying talent and teaching his system.

Lincoln Riley and Dabo Swinney.

Maybe not the best but I…

Maybe not the best but I think Donovan Edwards will be a steal for whoever takes him. He is a team player with elite speed and great hands (under utilized imo). Any weaknesses in his game can all be corrected, just needs a little time and patience.

Washington decided to target…

Washington decided to target Sabb all day and got nothing. Kid balled out today and all year for that matter.

These guys were legendary…

These guys were legendary before this game and I couldn’t be more happy for them.

Tripp Welborne would have…

Tripp Welborne would have been a 5 star. Parade All American and number 1 WR in his class of 1986. Although he started at WR he ended up on defense where he became a 2 time all-american. Unfortunately, his career was derailed by an ACL injury his senior year 1990, which was basically career ending back then.

Underwood got concussed…

Underwood got concussed against ND after being less than impressive in his first start against Miami-OH where nothing was working in the running game. Michigan trotted out several running backs after Underwood exited but Hart was clearly the best and ended up winning the starting job.

Supports the aforementioned…

Supports the aforementioned point, anyone you bring in would be year 1 in the system. At least the other guys have been in the system longer.

Disappointed to hear that…

Disappointed to hear that about Rebel Moon because I will still probably end up watching it. Thanks for the warning shot.

Went to see “Poor Things”…

Went to see “Poor Things” tonight and I really enjoyed it but it is definitely not a family movie. The acting, dialogue, and settings were all really well done. Emma Stone is probably a lock for an Oscar if you care about that type of thing, Mark Ruffalo was also superb. My wife threw it into the bin of “weird movies that only I like” but she did find it very funny. So if you don’t mind something off beat I highly recommend watching “Poor Things.”

When does the IRS get involved? I guess things will get interesting once/if that happens. Maybe I'm wrong but I have a hard time believing all the money and gifts are being accounted for.

I found it interesting he mentioned the PI in ball placement because that was potentially a pick six if it was on target and I think he was alluding to that.

Love coach Moore. Only needs 2 more top 10 scalps to catch Frames.

Congrats to him and the team.

1. Yost- Built the Big House…

1. Yost- Built the Big House and got the program off to a great start.

2. Fritz Crisler- Brought in the Helmets and innovated the game with two-platoon football.

3. Bo- Brought Michigan back from the 50-60s decline. The Moeller, Lloyd, and Harbaugh regimes are branches from the Bo tree.

HM:

Lloyd - Idealistically maybe the most "Michigan" coach ever. Has a National Championship and great overall record but a losing record in Bowls (during a Bowls matter era) and against OSU (6-7). Didn't really build much of a coaching tree and set the program up for failure after his departure.

Harbaugh- A reflection of Bo for better or worse. Gets a slight pass with OSU record given what he came into and was up against. I also give a slight pass on Bowl record given the playoff era. Needs a NC and another 5-10 years of continued success to move up. FWIW, has brought in some really good coaches over the years that could pay dividends down the road.

My solution is based on the…

My solution is based on the Armageddon tie break used in chess.

1) Each team makes a "secret" bid that represents the number of yards from the endzone (1-99).

2) The team with the largest bid gets the ball on offense at the yard mark representing their bid. If bids are the same then there will be a coinflip and winner decides if they want offense or defense.

3) If the offense scores then they win the game*.

4) If the Defense gets a stop (turnover on downs, int, etc.) they are awarded 1 point and get the win.

*I am on the fence if the offense should have to score a TD or is a FG good enough. I think in the NFL a TD requirement would probably be necessary.

Pros: Simple. Short OT but still exciting. It is very similar to the game that was being played the previous 60 minutes, it is not just an aspect of the game like red zone offense/defense.

Cons: Hilariously poor bids that will result in a dull finish to an otherwise great game.

Malachi Corley is a beast if he is available for the OSU game, knocked out in season opener.

As a 49ers fan I was at his first game as HC and was impressed. The 2 points that stuck out to me were his willingness to go for it on 4th down and even though the game was out of hand early the Lions came back and had chances at the end.

Especially if Mullings is going to be the short yardage/power back.

1) Preseason rankings are…

1) Preseason rankings are dumb but it is tradition and lets be honest we love doing them just to pass time before the season starts.

2) Historically, if you are ranked in the top 10 preseason you are probably overrated. People like to think they are geniuses so they say everyone is overrated with maybe 1 or 2 obvious exceptions. Later in the season they can say they were right and point to these earlier observations to confirm to themselves that they are brilliant.

One of my wife's favorite…

One of my wife's favorite observations about me is that I attract strangers who want to talk to me for some reason or another. She thinks it's funny because I'm an introvert and somewhat anti-social.

What follows is an example of one such occurrence. We pull into a rest area off I-80 at like 2-3am, so it's pitch black out. After we park and begin to head to our respective restrooms a guy comes out of the men's room with his face and shirt covered in blood; I'm pretty sure he was a drunk and had passed out and broke his nose on the urinal or something. Regardless, my first thought was that I was going to have to fight this guy. Then he just says: "Beautiful night, you know I was in the Boy Scouts..." And goes on to tell me about when he was in the Boy Scouts and camping, etc. I basically told him I was in the Boy Scouts too and made some quick small talk,  took a piss, and got out of there ASAP.

Following the chess scene, weird data point, I've heard tons of good things about Hamburg fwiw. Personally, I would be content to check out Hamburg but would consider Copenhagen or Amsterdam.

We grow butternut squash. Harvest leaving the stem on and cure (skin completely hardens) at room temp. Once cured they will last through winter or for most of it. The vines grow like crazy so you need a lot of room. Squash blossoms are also edible but we have never tried them.

I like the concept of relegation but think it would only work with MLB or NBA if you have a couple wild card or playoff spots for the lower tier league. Otherwise, I don't see owners going for a relegation system.

Some off the beaten path stuff:

1. Family Business: French comedy on Netflix

2. Hellbound: South Korean show on Netflix. Only 1 season so far but renewed for season 2.

3.  Giri/Haji (Duty/Shame)- British/Japanese crime drama. Mini-series (8 episodes) worth watching.
