12/11/2017 - 11:55pm OP, you might get something

OP, you might get something out of this article by Christopher Lasch on the degradation of sport:

It's an interesting topic and I think this development (players transferring a la free agents) in cfb is relevant to it.

There is definitely an argument that this is not good for the sport, and I think that this argument ought to be considered alongside arguments for empowering players.

11/25/2017 - 5:31pm Man, I really feel for this team. They played so

Man, I really feel for this team. They played so hard today, hung with a more talented team and almost straight up beat them.

These guys deserve congratulations for a well fought game that most said they'd have no shot in.

Credit Harbaugh for throwing the playbook at them. It turns out he WAS storing some stuff up contrary to what we thought after Wisconsin. And really that was probably the right move, as beating Wisconsin gains us nothing really, but beating OSU could salvage an entire season.

Anyway, another bitter loss in a way too long string of them. Go Blue forever.

10/16/2017 - 6:38pm Oh man, the Tim Dwight game!

Oh man, the Tim Dwight game! I too thought we were screwed at half. Worse, I was there with my OSU-fan friend and his dad (we were 13 at the time).

I can't remember the specifics... surely that Griese to Tuman TD had to be the patented PA rollout, right? He always hit Tuman on that thing. Total bread & butter play that year.

Great write-up!

Oh man, that Goya painting with Alf instead of Satan is amazing.

04/30/2017 - 9:28pm He always looks like Steve

He always looks like Steve Zahn to me. Like if Steve Zahn played a car salesman.

04/30/2017 - 9:27pm The claws

Well it started with the username. My name is Adam. Wolverine had Adamantium claws (or rather an Adamantium-coated skeleton). The avatar was basically the best Wolverine pic I found on a quick Google images search.

It all worked out pretty fortuitously. Wolverine was always my favorite X-man. Always ID'd with the moody loners. E.g., Raphael from TMNT. That probably says something about me that I'd rather not delve into.

08/23/2016 - 3:31pm The "Chris Wormely" tag is

The "Chris Wormely" tag is pretty appropriate this week. I thought for a sec he was deliberately using misspelled tags for our players.

Big Ten Football.

11/08/2014 - 8:18am Smarf

Well I like it. I thought it was a funny premise at first, just 11 minutes of opening credits to that horrible theme song (IT TAKES A LOT TO MAKE A STEW), but then things took a turn toward great right about the time Smarf showed up. And then there's the Lars von Trier cameo.

I've watched it a few times now trying to spot machete guy's first appearance. I think I spotted him juuust on the right edge of the screen during the bicep curl kid's shot at 0:19 (look at the pattern/color of whatever is over there by the golf clubs). But if he's not there then he's DEFINITELY lurking right behind the homework girl who appears right after bicep curl boy.

You gotta watch it without those subtitles though. They get in the way during at least one machete man appearance.

I guess not everyone's cup o' tea around here though. Too bad.

10/01/2014 - 9:29pm My head wants Harbaugh, but my heart?

07/27/2013 - 6:30pm Google says he was a figure

Google says he was a figure of the Scottish Enlightenment, and that he runs a 4.4 40. I think he's gonna be pretty good, guys!

And I found a pretty good version of the fight song. Performed by somebody called the Tartar Band of Compton.

Which reminds me, maybe we should add some Dr. Dre/Snoop.

Well, faves BESIDES the versions performed by the marching band, of course.

08/08/2012 - 1:16pm Can't have one without the other

I just added my fave versions of Temptation (by The Everly Brothers) and The Hawaiian War Chant (by Tommy Dorsey).

I hadn't updated my wallpaper since the Indiana game. I'm pretty sure that's why we haven't won since. Problem fixed. 10-2, here we come!

Kidding aside, you are very skilled. Has there been an mgoprofile on monuMental yet?

10/18/2010 - 4:58pm I would ban anyone who

I would ban anyone who started a thread with a title in the vein of "My thoughts on the ______ game." As if anyone cares.

I get so tired of seeing a dozen of those after every win and thirty of them after every loss.

Let's make a deal, delusional postgame thoughts-offerers. You start blogging your postgame thoughts elsewhere, and I will visit every Saturday and even make a comment. I am willing to take this one for the sake of the MGoBoards.

10/08/2010 - 6:58pm That would be fantastic.

Here's a little something I put together as motivation for this week's game. It's inspired by Mark Dantonio's perpetual scowl. I call it Dantonio the Carpathian:

He showed up in the front row after Stonum's return TD against Notre Dame in 2009. What I'd like to know is how did he get front row seats two years in a row?

What kind of recourse does a guy like Dorsey have if he's not current enrolled in college anywhere? Can he improve his high school grades at all and retake the ACT/SAT, or does he have to earn some college credit and hope for admission somewhere as a transfer student if he wants to play football?

Oh, awesome. I was eyeballing that shirt for a while. Then, like a month ago I was like "I should get one of those in case they stop printing them soon," and then the Cease and Desist came down.

09/25/2010 - 9:49pm Their stunning victories over

Their stunning victories over Towson (I'm sure they're an FCS powerhouse) and W. Kentucky (last win was during the Bush administration...but hey, at least it's the younger Bush administration), as well as today's likely victory against Akron (uh...MAC...that is all) don't really provide much in the way of useful information.

Chappell's passing numbers look strong, and Darius Willis has rushed for about 5 YPC so far. Given the competition, who knows what will happen?

09/25/2010 - 8:15pm I never get tired of these

09/25/2010 - 1:36am Ah crap. That woulda been so

Ah crap. That woulda been so much better without the Carlos Mencia-like pat on your own back.

09/24/2010 - 4:59am Interesting. Does anyone else

Interesting. Does anyone else feel that TV sports personalities would be a million times better if they regularly displayed this kind of candor? It seems like every time we get an "opinion" from some sports analyst on TV, it's watered down, politically correct, yet still SHOUTED VERY LOUDLY. Rarely does anyone break from the conventional wisdom.

Velveeta is "cheese product." The most American of foods.

09/23/2010 - 8:07pm I think Navarre's senior year

I think Navarre's senior year was very successful. It was his preceding difficult years that sort of led us to expect another frustrating season in 2003, but he consistently defied those expectations. Perhaps the biggest improvement he made that year was in gaining the composure to take a step up in the pocket to avoid a sack and then fire accurately downfield.

That seemed to be a common recurring event in the 03 season. "Oh shi- that defensive end is bearing down HARD. Navarre is way too slow to avoid this inevitable sack." [Navarre steps up, just out of reach and fires to Avant. First Down!]

09/17/2010 - 12:23am At some point I'm expecting

At some point I'm expecting that edge pitch that we saw late in the year last year. The way our receivers are blocking this season, that could be a very successful play.
