Baumgardner’s Projected Starters (Warning: Freep Link)

Even for the ultra-pessimistic like me, it’s hard not to get excited about this team. There are definitely a couple question marks but we have some serious talent returning, especially on defense.
Already pumped for September. Go Blue.
The "warning Freep" nonsense is so exhausted and needs to be retired already. We all read the Freep, the coaches read the Freep, the players read the Freep, it's one of the few outlets left that actually still covers Michigan athletics on a Daily basis, paid for its reporter to go to Europe the last two years. Time to grow up, folks!
It was nine years, two coaches, and one beat writer ago. Nick is probably the best writer that covers Michigan Football on a daily basis, so if someone is going to get TRIGGERED because he happens to write for the Free Press, their loss. Move past it people.
Yep... he's way better than the Mlive guy that replaced him
McMann said Milton was the most dual threat QB on the roster.
And that WW2 started in the Normandy region, which is wrong on any level that you want to slice it
the freep sucks

Fuck the Free Press, now and forever. I support journalism through a variety of paid subscriptions, but they will never get my clicks. I have a variety of mechanisms, such as VPN and adblock and others, that guarantees they didn't get a cent off of my visit to their site, and I feel no shame in sharing their barebones, poorly written, and even worse edited article about Michigan. I was curious to see their lineup and perhaps participate in a conversation about next year's team. I don't value their analysis. Even a little.
Exactly.
fuck the freep
Huh?
fuck the freep
What?
fuck the freep
fuck the freep
fuck the freep
Well actually , please don’t .
Jim McElwain is on the coaching staff now. I'm expecting a better level of play call.
In fairness, he made the same horrible mistake Hoke made, he hired Nussmeier to run his offense. As he isn't in a position to make that same horrible mistake, perhaps we'll see the McElwain that has enjoyed success elsewhere.
Hoke would have kept Borges if it was up to him.
How much easier play calling should be with a good QB.
We'll just have to keep a TE in on passing downs. And maybe a fullback. And work out of the howitzer (QB twice as far back as in the shotgun.)
more. I have visions of him catching the ball and blowing up a safety.
depth chart projections here. Just a means of having a discussion.
Sure, it's an opinion piece. But it's something in the off season.
I'm of two minds on Baumgardner.
I actually like his articles. He, to my mind, keeps it rational without being a acerbic dick like Sharp. But his podcasts can come off as combative and a bit whiny.
If Michigan can get the QB and tackle questions sorted out they can be pretty darn good. I know, I know....big ifs to arguably the most important positions on the entire team, and positions where the team has struggled for years. But Patterson is eligible and you have arguably one of the best OL coaches in the country now watching over your line.
This has got to be the year. The defense is stacked top to bottom with proven playmakers. You have your five star QB, your WRs actually have a guy to coach them now, and you're getting your best WR back from injury, the RBs and TEs are proven, you have "the guy" coaching your OL. I'm not saying this has to be a playoff year. But this has to be a year where Harbaugh shows some kind of tangible breakthrough or he has to check off some big milestone that is yet to be attained (beating OSU, beating good teams on the road, beating a good MSU team).
Has to go at least 1-1 against the rivals this year. Even a season where they finish 11-2, win an NY6 game, but lose to both MSU and OSU again, this would be a truly hollow season and somewhat of a failure.
