Well he did say Pep would be gone and just a few days ago also said he'd be surprised if Drevno even stayed on through March. His ears may be close to the source but he has not been accurate at all with our coaching staff this offseason.

This past season I don't put the blame on Harbaugh. I blame a bad offensive coordinator(s?) pairing.
He has now made this his problem if the offense is a disaster again.

He owns their performance now that he is sticking with Pep and Drevno.

He didn't know it was gonna be like that in 2017.
He has the data now and is doing nothing to fix it.

I'm not sure "doing nothing" is a fair assesment. Frey is gone to FSU. He was probably gone no matter what. Clearly the Frey/Drevno OL team did not mesh. McElwain is now in and from the sounds of it, will be taking over some of the role Hamilton had. Warriner is now in, He will be looking over the shoulder of Drevno with regards to the O-line which is a different scenario than having two OL coaches. Additionally, Roundtree has been added so there is an additional eye on the WR's in addition to McElwain's. There is also a new TE coach.
Despite Drevno and Pep still being around. That is pretty signficant change.

It's gotta be hard to coach well if you are Drevno this year. Warinner could be his replacement in waiting and will be on Drevno's back all year with his takes. I hope they mesh well together because if their opinions or styles clash, it could be just like Frey/Drevno all over again. Drevno has say over Warinner but Warinner was brought on for a clear and obvious reason.

I don't quite understand how "hiring a couple of new coaches, letting others leave, and adding further clarity to the duties of each" is doing nothing to fix it, but then again I'm not looking to be outraged by whatever happens with Michigan football.

You know what I see when I look at this year's coaching staff? The Cleveland Cavaliers roster prior to the trading deadline blood-letting and reboot. We had a roster of aging, over the hill All Stars that werent hungry and didnt work well together on or off the court.
I sure hope I'm wrong but almost nothing about the team Harbaugh has assembled or the organizational structure he's created on the offensive side of the ball gives me any confidence at all.

I obviously tarnishes the look of the program...already affecting recruiting. Not that our class was terrible but we certainly don’t have the clout it takes to close on some of the big name guys when it comes down to us and Big Boys (Bama, OSU, etc).

Leadership by committee, not so much in my experience. So we will see, hopefully it pulls together.

His failings at SF? Besides a mediocre season with constant drama between him and management and knowing he was gone at the end of the year, he did pretty damn well there.
I still believe in Harbaugh. I really don't get how prevalent the "sky is falling" attitude is here. The OL is the only real question mark for me this year. It seems taking on McElwain was a way to get Drevno focused more on developing the OL without worrying as much with playcalling and game planning. Is Warriner going to be coaching up the OL also? Or does his analyst role prevent him from doing that?

You can be a pretty good coach and still have failings. I may be wrong, but I don't think the fans even wanted Harbaugh gone, it was the owner that had a problem with him.

You know what else happened between 1978 and 1981? MgrowOld happened to be on campus at the University of Michigan....that's what happened.
I'm not certain but I'm pretty sure 78-81 came in first in a recent poll of "what were the best four years in recorded history". Or something like that.

Before the season I thought Michigan was going to go undefeated and Leach was going to win the Heisman. That tough loss at ND and letting Kurt Gibson and Sparty beat us at home was tough to take. Though we did beat OSU but loss to USC on a phantom TD.
February 20th, 2018 at 9:00 AM ^
That "tough loss" at ND was a 28-14 win. Our first loss that year was to the Kirk Gibson led Spartans in East Lansing.
In my formative Michigan fandom years we lost about once or twice a decade to Sparty. This was the 70's loss.
