Speight to Return ?

I think it would be great to have Speight back.  Even if he doesn't win the starter role, he provides great experience and depth to the position (and leadership to the team).  I was quite surprised when he accounced that he wanted to transfer to play elsewhere - I assumed that either 1) his injury had basically ended his football career or 2) he was a lock or strong leader for next year's starter role.

Either way, I think we should have at least 1 servicable QB next year - just not sure who that actually is yet.

Have not heard the direct quote but if he only wants to come if Patterson is ineligible, he’s afraid of competition and does not belong on this team.

Any reasonable person would like to have more experienced backups, but if he’s only coming back for selfish reasons and not to compete and be a team player he should go anywhere else.

He’s 14-3 as a starter (this includes the Purdue game). He played 3/4 of a very good season in 2016. He’s played in and sometimes win big games. Why not have him compete against the other QBs on the roster?

This is a leadership problem more than it is a football problem.  There is no way Speight can walk back into the lockerroom, tail between his legs, and take the starting QB position back.

If it isn't Patterson, I hope Dylan McCaffrey is ready.  UmBig11 said awhile back that he has put on 25-30 lbs since enrolling.  He has great poise and decision-making, he just needed the strength.

Wtf is happening. Sp8 sucks and needs to move on. Let Milton play before him if those are our choices. I mean fuck, Ohio rolled a freshman out against us.

I know people will be snarky here, but I'd be fine if he came back.  He was the best QB Michigan had last year, and while that's not the highest bar to pass, I'd have much prefered to see him under center against MSU, USC, and OSU than the QBs we got.  I think Peters would give him a healthy fight for the starting spot next year, but I'd much rather have him as an option versus just Peters and then RS/True Freshmen.

It didn't matter who we had at QB last year, the results were the same. I don't think it matters one way or the other if he stays. Hell, he might win the job given how bad everyone looked last year.

Coach and player turmoil is disheartening. JH needs to get this rodeo under control. Too much lose money from UM, should have been the Stamford approach with an f-ing budget.

Might as well stockpile as many quarterbacks as we can. Until pass pro improves all we're doing is setting them up to fail and get injured. I was hoping having a more mobile qb like Shea would help mitigate some of that.

If the OL can start manning the fuck up, even if a Speight came back and started next year he’d do fine. The problem is that whoever Harbaugh sends out there, with our OL playing as it has been, only guarantees that our QBs are leaving the game in the back of an ambulance.

I don’t even care if Milton is starting next season. Just fix the OL and the rest takes care of itself.

I'm sorry but as Michigan fans I think we need to have higher standards. I get it, he is a great kid. I wish him the best of luck honestly. But I don't want that guy anywhere near our football program. He can't play at a high level in the Big Ten. He is not good enough. No Speight, please. We can't just be okay with a mediocre QB coming back after he promised to leave, and possibly taking someone's slot who could actually develop into something. He would be kicked out the door at Ohio State or Alabama. No use for this guy at an elite program.

O'Korn is no longer playing college football. I would rather have 1)Patterson 2)Peters 3)McCaffrey. And if none of those guys are available, I would rather have a young gun get some playing time to develop. Maybe Milton. It is Harbaughs decision no matter what. Either way, Speight coming back is not acceptable.

The guy led us to a Big Ten Title game without garbage officiating two seasons ago. How quickly we forget.

He also knows Haurbaughs offense better than any QB on the roster. He’d be a huge asset if he came back. He’s not the greatest ever, but plenty of “game managers” have won championships.

No he never led us to a championship game. Name a single time throwing 2 interceptions, 1 being a pick six, and fumbling a snap on the 2 yard line for a turnover is ever good enough against osu. You say he led us to victory the refs robbed us of. Wrong, we almost won DESPITE Speight that day.

It wasn't sure if he would be a go.  Everyone saw O'Korn play the week before.  When you saw found out that Speight was the starter what was your feelings?  Despite a messed up shoulder he still went out there against a scary defense and did the best that he could to help us.  There was no other qb who was going to keep the game close.

An hour before the game fans weren't sure who would start but you know damn well the coaching staff knew well ahead of that time. O'Korn most likely would have been terrible if starting that game. But turning the ball over 3 times including throwing a pass for -6 points is not "keeping the game close." And this isn't pee wee football. What NCAA QB is concerned about going up against a "scary defense?" Also, don't all Michigan players do the best they can to help us, not just Speight? No one will ever know how much or how little his injury affected him but I'm tired of seeing it used as an excuse.

I know he isn't popular, but since the Minnesota game in 2015 and Spring game in 2016 I have always thought Speight as tough and is a god leader. He can lead a team and was getting molded into a Harbaugh QB as best as posbile. Injuries and coaching changes hurt im frm really bcoming a monster and has fizzled out. I'd take him back, even if it's only for a competitive reason and for leadership. He's shown the most from any QB on our roster save Paterson thus far.

It doesn't seem all that fishy to me. It seemed really odd that he would take such a step down to a position coach. His contract here came with wording for the possibility of an offensive coordinator and a huge bump in salary but that could only happen if Pep or Drevno left. It looks like they're staying. Alabama will give him coordinator status and probably triple his salary. Why wouldn't he go?

Because he knows Peters is not good. I will never understand the lengths people go to make excuses for Peters and try and pretend like he is legit. This whole Peters fairytale needs to end.

When Shea is ruled eligible the fairytale will be over. People also need to stop kidding themselves into thinking that Speight is good either. He started off real well in '16 but really struggled against good teams (Colorado, Wisconsin, Iowa, OSU, and FSU). Also, this year he did not show the accuracy and decision making he showed in the beginning of '16. It probably had a lot to do with losing his top 3 pass catchers, but good QBs adapt. I would understand if there was a little dropoff due to the young receiving corp, but the dropoff we saw from Speight this season was anything but encouraging.
