Three of the four playoff teams didn't have a top ten win,  Michigan had 3 Osu had one given to them and beat Wiskey in a dog fight. Everyone uses the argument that we beat PSU early. it was 4 games in and how does that matter they won the East Wiskey won the West and Florida won the East in the SEC Colorado was a top ten team and UCF win looks pretty good now doesn't it? Lost by 1 to FSU in pretty much a home game for them with a injured QB without the best TE in the country and our top Player in Peters and Harbaugh sucks! I just don't get it

They also lost to 5-7 Wake Forest, and three 8-5 teams (Oregon State, Arizona, Cal) in a much weaker conference. We are averaging only 24 yards less on the ground than that Stanford team did. Is a "good" win worth a "bad" loss to say, Rutgers? In my opinion, it is not. One major improvement over Hoke's teams is not losing to teams that we have no business losing to. Every loss this year has been to a top 25 team.

We knew recruiting wasn't going to get any easier. I'm getting tired of the people here who seem to think that you can only build a good line from top rated recruits and you should expect it to take 5 years. That's not how it works. The great recruiting comes secondary to success. If the coaching staff knows what they're doing they will be able to mold a great OL from 3 stars.

"If the coaching staff knows what they're doing they will be able to mold a great OL from 3 stars." There isn't much evidence that this staff knows what they're doing when it comes to developing offensive lineman. Anyway, I expect recruiting to take an upswing before signing day. Jim will get a few good lineman

What happened to the best players in Michigan go to Michigan? Make no mistake, this is a massive recruiting miss. In-state guy that we were in on early and at position that's always going to be needed. Thanks Drevno!

“Oh he’s just a ‘19 kid” or “oh it’s not a big deal our oline commits are just fine”, it’s a big deal! This kid is going to be a five star by the end of next year. Him committing doesn’t mean we can’t get him back but, it’s just ridiculous that we are so lackluster in that position and we keep missing on our top recruits, especially a in-state guy that should be easier to land. We have limited tackles and the recruiting in this area has been piss poor. In state guys this good should be the highest of priorities. When you have high 4* guys in state landing them is a must. Don’t be shocked when other top priority recruits start fading too. Not the commits, they are solid, but players we should be able to easily land. It’s not all gloom and doom and i know this sounds stupid to most of you, but from a fan who follows recruiting so heavily, things like are so frustrating.

Our line has made huge strides this year. Yesterday they had pockets where peters had 5+ seconds to make a play. Most of the QB hits were failed identification of blitzes, not a sieve of a line.
Our WRs have 0 ability to get separation. They’re the crux of this team. Not the line. And even the WRs will probably be fine when they are all healthy and have another offseason to learn.

Guys come and go and come back again (sometimes).

There will be some coaching changes that allow us to flip a guy to Michigan who might be committed to somewhere else. A lot can happen in January!

Just hoping Newsome can come back for next year and this time he can undercut a Wisky player and get revenge for a dirty play.

Guys change their mind all the time. He could easily end up at Michigan. He might feel quite differently about his choice depending on the outcome of next years game.

What is going on with this blog? Most experts had Michigan taking a step back this season losing to Florida, PSU, Wiskey and OSU subsitute MSU for Florida and its just as perdicted. This is a bit of a rebuilding year,  Doug Karsch said before the season that this will be Harbaughs worst year then when it happens everyone loses their freaking minds.

if you don't think this team has improved and has been competitive over the last 3 years and Harbaugh isn't  the guy who do you think is? Again Harbaugh didn't drop the punt snap against MSU he didn't make the calls that cost them against OSU he didn't rule DPJ's TD was't yesterday those things don't happen and we probably are not having these conversations. I get it they did, but come on.

Dantonio has made his share of blunders and lost games too, how did Urbans trip to Iowa go?

Stop micro analyzing everthing and see that this team is heading in the right direction and we are not 3 - 9 and he hasn't lost his players. I know over the last 3 years heading into the Big House I feel like we had a chance to win , I didn't feel that way the previous 7 years!

We are not Nebraska, Texas, Florida Tennessee, or even ND to some extent be thankful for what we have and stop being such a bitchy fanbase pull up your big boy pants and enjoy the games for fuck sakes

I don’t understand people that think this way.

Experts say we should go 8-4. Fine, so we are going to be 8-4 now which is right at expert expectations.

Why do experts think we will be 8-4? Inexperience? Less talent than the teams we are expected to lose to? There are a number of inputs.

The reason to be upset is that 8-4 is the reasonable expectation, and a lot of people don’t see the deficiencies being improved which means that might remain the reasonable expectation. One notable area is the offensive line. Lack of elite recruits and unsure about development and growth.

We played MSU with a backup QB that just can't get it done with 5 turnovers 4 on our half of the field and still lost by only 4 to a 8-3 team that stacked the box because they knew we couldn't throw, at least not accurately and you have people wanting to give Dantonio the BIG coach of the year the same coach that lost by 20 to ND and 45 to OSU mix in a loss to NW and get PSU at home in another rain storm and don't play Wiskey and why because he sucked yacks ass last year? There is an anti Harbaugh agenda don't fall into Michigan fans

posters who want to state their outrage, demands and nonsensical suggestions. Things like "Harbaugh better win big next year", there is no hope for next year because the road schedule is hard, and one poster even suggested Mike Leach to replace JH. The board cannot entertain even basic discourse after a loss this year. Hard to tell the MSU, OSU and Mlive trolls from asinine "fans" because so many posters want to burn down the program right now after a road loss to the #5 team.

I share your incredulity over those comments. I think the 2018 will surprise people with their resolve, physicality and execution. The live-fire experience this year coupled with a year of maturity to significantly strengthen our depth, the team will be able to stand toe-to-toe with anyone. Good QB play will completely transform the offense and the OL will be better.

I believe Harbaugh is our guy and want him to be. But that doesn’t mean I can’t be critical and expect more. For example, is it wrong to think that in year 3 with “pro” coaching that our O line and RBs could be better at picking up rushers, or that we wouldn’t run a draw play on 3rd and long? My frustration is that I’ve seen Harbaugh outcoached a lot more than I’ve seen him out coach someone else, and that is not acceptable.

Is it not okay for people to be frustrated with losing games and blowing off some steam? If you agree it is okay then what better place to do so than Mgoblog? It is still on the internet, correct? Or do you prefer the site to be an echo chamber for only fair minded, reasonable folks like yourself? The reality is that most fans focus only on results in sports. When looked at that way I think you should be able to empathize with those expressing frustration with this season. Not everyone is as deep of a thinker about sports as you like to think you are (after Brian has spoon fed you those deep thoughts). Also, if a "professional" would have told you we'd lose by 4 touchdowns to PSU and 2 touchdowns to Wisconsin would that have made the losses easier to handle?

So two years out?  Yeah, a lot can change in the interim.  Good luck to him if he goes to Wisconsin, but getting worked up this far in the future is silly.

during the game regarding what OL of Wisconsin were making in the NFL, what kid wouldn't want to go to Wisconsin?

I happen to beleve good OL players are developed by good coaching. There is no evidence of that from Michigan.

because of this important recruiting miss.

But at the same time, those people who keep blaming the Hoke/RR Oline gaps as a reason why our oline/team sucks should understand what this may be.  Another recruiting gap . . .

Yeah so what? We lost to MSU who started more frosh and Sophs than we did. We're supposed to have the better O line coaches and more talented recruits, yet MSU started 2 freshman, 2 sophomores and a lone senior against us in their O Line. Their O Line was better than ours this year while we started 2 seniors, 2 sophomores and a junior. Their sophomore QB was better than anyone on our roster too. And their true freshman WRs outpeeformed ours too. Either recruiting rankings are total bullshit or our offensive coaches are absolute garbage. Maybe it's both.

You are spot on with everything you said. I am soooooo sick of people making excuses. I keep asking this question and no one has offered an answer: when will JH be directly responsible for a win again?? He has had his ass handed to him a lot more than visa versa. I want him to be our guy but he’s gotta start earning it....

UM struggled with O'Korn at QB while MSU has stability with Lewerke. Flip the script from last year where MSU went 3-9 with O'Connor struggling while UM went 10-3 with Speight stability. Both fanbases point to a lot of other factors, but poor QB play will stall pro style offenses to a halt. Neither situation is an excuse - both coaches should not have put their programs in that situation by failing to develop QB quality.

In my lifetime dating back to 1966 we have one shared National Championship but somehow everyone seems to think we dominate college football. With our resources I kinda think we could but who knows. I will always go to the games and cheer maize and blue. All the other gloom and doom bullshit from the bandwagon fanbase will take care of itself.

I think one of the things overlooked when Jedd and Tyrone Sr left is they are both very good recruiters. Not sure about Hamilton and Frey but I suspect there could be a drop off there which we may be seeing with this 2018 class. Durkin was a really good recruiter too. I don't have data to back that up - just a hunch.

I think you're right, I know Fred Jackson sorry if you read this blog Fred but Fred is a goofy bastard but he could recruit, recruiting matters despite what Spartys like to say watch the teams that finish high in the recruiting rankings they usually finish high in the AP rankngs too.

Kids are fickle hard to read and make decisions that leave you saying huh? Like Hand choosing Bama when he said education was a big deal to him. You can't blame a kid that chooses Wisconson to play OL they develope OL and the announcers did their best to promote Wiskey to OL recruits during the telecast yesterday

I can’t believe Bredeson left Wisconsin to come here. Those guys need to lock up that state.... Recruiting is recruiting - Wisconsin produces phenomenal lines and you will get great coaching there. I wasn’t offended when Zettel left the state or Jake Fisher. They went to great programs known for production at the position. You want to win the majority of your battles in the state but you won’t win them all. All fan bases respond to immediacy vs trend. We are no different. I told Brian after the Iowa basketball game last year that it would be great to do a fire Beilein counter and correlate it to points awarded to see if the degree of irrationality increases vs immediacy of expectation. Shocker but it does...I’m a big fan of Harbaugh and am happy to give him the time to make it his culture and team. Honestly, he is the best option from the Bo tree and I believe if changes are necessary, he will make them.
