Quinn Nordin's 50 Yard FG Record
We're all proud of Quinn and his monster leg for hitting two 50+ yard FGs against Florida, but once that happened everyone started throwing around the stat that he was the first Michigan kicker to hit two FGs of 50 yards or greater in a game.
However, this morning on the Michigan Insider a caller mentioned that Mike Lantry accomplished this same feat against Stanford in 1973. After a little research this appears to be true. Lantry hit a 50 yarder in the 2Q (then a Michigan record for longest FG) and then proceeded to break his own record with a 51 yarder later in the 2Q.
I figured we should give credit where credit is due. Not to take anything away from Quinn - he had a great first game and I'm excited for his future with Michigan - but Lantry deserves recognition for his performance as well (esp. since he's remembered for another less joyous reason).

So... Quinn Nordin is the first U of M player to kick two field goals, each 50 yards or greater, at an average distance of 51 yards or greater?

The first UofM kicker to make two 50+ yard FG in Dallas.

He's still listening to the new Marching Band CD. He's reviewing it for "University Marching Band Quarterly."

He is busy planning for his day off tomorrow.

WD takes a beating sometimes (ok a lot) but that is pretty damn funny and very appropriate for today!

I thought that whenever this was mentioned, there was some qualifier on it like "as a freshman" or "in their first game". I don't remember hearing that he was the first to hit two 50-yarders in the same game.

Himself even referenced this in his interview with Dan Patrick posted today. Regardless, who can blame people for this - Michigan has quite a long and storied football history.

Record was the first time a kicker in his first game kicked 2 50 yarders.

In the game, the announcers made it clear he had tied (not set) a record. Too bad that late 50 yarder was just a little wide.

Mike Lantry is too often remembered for the few kicks he (may have) missed and not the many he made.

I will now remember Mike Lantry only for his fancy pointy shoulder pads.

Football was a lot tougher back then.

How many yards is that with inflation?

So Quin takes the record for kicker 102 yards worth of field goal, versus Lantry's 101 yards. Good to know...

With 2 50+ yarders in the same game WITHOUT the use of a tee! Which is harder. But then again, on the nice turf, it's easier. Still this boy has a monster leg and will have a monster career.
GO BLUE!!

I have yet to hear mention that in his first college game he outkicked his entire senior season of high school.

Im more interested in how many freshman kickers have kicked two or more 50 yarders in their FIRST game.
I cant imagine the list is that long if there even is a list. Nordin may be the first. I mean this is college. Most college teams are elated if their kicker can hit a 35 yarder half the time
