OT: Things that annoy you on MGOBLOG

Submitted by Dawggoblue on
On the eve of MGoBlog football (or non-OT) season, I thought this might make an interesting topic. What behaviors do you find most annoying on MGOBLOG?

I'll start with a couple:

-People who start posts about what annoys them in a retail store.

-Draftageddon

I find these interesting. Brian wrote a front page commentary about bad websites using audio or video when the video is just someone reading what could be written. I don't see how is podcasts are any different. I'd much rather read that content then hear then read it. it's also annoying that written content suffers because of those podcasts. i listen to a lot of them but never finish one.

Threads that start with SIAP and explaining that they looked and saw nothing.  I know commenters can be mean sometimes, but look if your story has been posted and if you can't find anything post it.  If you were wrong take your lumps and move on, we all make mistakes.  But spending 10 minutes explaining that you are sorry if it was posted before getting to the actual post really grinds my gears.

When things get a little political if events warrant it. However, I am disturbed by the number of up votes received by some serious tin hat posts.

People who start their post by apologizing for posting something that could have already been posted but aren't really sure if it had been posted even though they checked and didn't find anything on the topic but don't have enough confidence in their posting ability to just post it without the pre apology and the disclaimer that the mods should feel free to delete if already posted.

1) Nonsequitur advice threads...like "Hey MGoCommunity, I am buying a new car and would love to hear your thoughts!". And before I get the "then don't click on it" comments, please read #2:

2) "Then don't click on it" comments - If the site didn't push threads off of the main screen with no real way to go back to find them, I wouldn't mind #1 so much... but the fact that often the good relevent topics on the board topics are lost to Drupal oblivion because of this tripe makes it particularly annoying. Hopefully when the site upgrade happens in 2026 this will all be worked out.

Hope the whole system vanishes when the board is redone.

It's very easy to tell that people aren't always themselves out of fear of the whole voting crap.

It's how we police ourselves man.  Have you never noticed that those that speak freely seem to get a shit ton of upvotes?

If we can't vote, somewittyname will say some shitty things.

Wasn't the voting on hiatus several years ago?  This was before I started posting, but it was a constant complaint to bring it back.  I don't think the board would be as good without it.

Hey it's Friday Posbang.   It's a positive, Pos-Posbang, posbang.   And all other forms of posbangs.

Although that being said this particular thread might be my favorite accidental posbang of all time.  I think i've upvoted just about evey comment in here

I know Drupal was brought up above but the whole site migration thing in general.  It's been "happening" for years even when I was a lurker it was talked about.  I realize the monetary investment to upgrade but the site crashes and unavailability are so annoying.

1. Comments that are tinged with (or blatant) racism, homophobia, etc

2. People posting that there is info on other sites that are paywalled, but can't post it. If people aren't going to share that specific info, why post about info on another site that you won't reveal? I get the real reasoning, but would anyone bitch about sharing a paywalled NY Times article or some other news publication?

3. People posting they are sorry if a link has already been posted.

Most annoying thing to me is when people get upset about Rich Rod and Hoke updates. It's okay to keep tabs on your ex.

And how weird is it when you meet someone who says they're a M fan and never heard of mgoblog ?

Punt/Counterpunt, I think that's it. The gameday column that gets posted on the front page. Never funny, the contributing columnists try and fail to be clever. I wonder if they owe Brian money.
