Per ESPN: We're fairly happy; Staee fans are miserable
http://www.espn.com/espn/feature/story/_/id/20369846/ranking-happiness-…
Michigan is the 22nd happiest fanbase in the country. I trust that in the next two or three seasons (after more double-digit win seasons and hopefully some B1G championships to boot) that our joy will propel us into the top-10, whatever that's worth.
Staee fans, on the other hand, are #115 in the country (third lowest Power Five). This time last year, they were crowing about their recent success, which no doubt was substantial. But now they're ready to look for a high bridge. I guess that's what happens when you base the entirety of your emotions on how another program is doing.

Man, ESPN is just desperate for web clicks.

Is Emoji linguistics a major or strictly minor focus?

Is it all that different from heiroglyphs? Scholars will be studying our emojis trying to interpret intent 2,000 years from now.

You say that, but when you read a title that says MSU fans are crying you know you will click.
August 22nd, 2017 at 11:40 PM ^
It's really fucking sad.
"Hey! Look at your team! We have animated emojies that represent how you should feel about your team! We even included a boilerplate 60-word summary about how your fanbase feels! Click it! The emojies jump and smile or scowl!"

The only one that's really inaccurate (which I've seen just initially from a quick browse) is UCLA. They are definitely not "Elated." Just read any article on Bruinsnation.
Edit: And Maryland fans are Skeptical? Minnesota fans are Distraught?? Ok, this list just went south in credibility real fast.

You're not wrong, but if you were a State fan and MSU was doing well, you'd still want to burn your living room furniture.
All burning furniture tells you about a State fan is that they are in the vicinity.

I'd buy an Art Van furniture store, but with a strong security system.

Someone make a State fan while happy, sad, angry comparison meme now!

If you were a Staee fan, you wouldn't be making this post because...you know...can't read, can't write.

Eh, you should appreciate ESPN for their massive coverage of college football. No network does a better job and it's not even close.

I haven't watched ESPN save for actual college football games in 5 years. The BTN covers all my in season college football news needs.
If it weren't for actual games on that network I don't think I'd ever feel the need to tune in.
August 22nd, 2017 at 4:34 PM ^
Used to love PTI & Around the Horn...now, I don't even watch Sportscenter..occasionally I'll catch an Outside the Lines or 30 for 30. If it wasn't for live games..I wouldn't bother. Same with their website.
To note though, I care about Michigan football exponentially more than all other sports combined, so their passing interest in non-SEC related CFB has lost me.
August 22nd, 2017 at 4:50 PM ^
I think that's the point he's making. No one cares about the in-studio discussion nearly as much as the actual games, and ESPN broadcasts lots of games with higher production quality than most competitors. E.g. consider your typical BTN announcing team.
August 22nd, 2017 at 4:53 PM ^
What if I told you that a focus on Big Ten football matters more to me than production quality?

How can I forget. How Tebow is doing in the bush leagues is far more important than anything sports news related.
August 22nd, 2017 at 11:44 PM ^
I tend to unplug the middle channel on my sound set up to remove the announcers from whatever broadcast I'm watching.
ESPN does tend to have better production value in general though.

Meh, their website coverage has tailed way off over the past year. Their Big Ten Blog for example goes days between posts at this point. That's unacceptable this close to the season. They should just drop the blogs all together if they are going to put no effort into them.
August 22nd, 2017 at 6:34 PM ^
is an abomination. When you try to be all things for all people, you end up being nothing for nobody. There's way too many videos and "insider" content. If I want to read something about a specific sport, I usually head to that sport's dedicated website, e.g. MLB.com for baseball.

I accept all your groans.

It's cute and all but I have no idea how they come up with some of the measurables. How are we only a 68 in recruiting, but and 80 in Rivalry dominance? I guess we have really dominated those Minnesota and Illinois rivalries that we hold so dear.
August 22nd, 2017 at 3:51 PM ^
Rutgers, man.... Rutgers.
August 22nd, 2017 at 6:01 PM ^
rivalry dominance? Cuz it def can't be recent if we're that high.
That must be heavily weighted in the rankings because K State is 5th (!!) despite being pretty mediocre at everything except keeping BIll Snyder on payroll and beating Kansas.
I guess it makes sense. If your expectations aren't to win conference titles and go to the playoff, all you'd really care about it beating your rival.
August 22nd, 2017 at 2:47 PM ^
Yeah this poll is pretty fucking stupid. Our recruiting trend is a 58 but our rivalry dominance is an 80? Lol no
