[LOCKED] Peppers kneels during national anthem

Submitted by bleeker on

Per ESPN: http://es.pn/2imwV4m Tough, smart player with great situational awareness.

MOD EDIT - Left it overnight so people could get it out of their system. Went about as well as you would think - LSA

another black athlete who doesn't get it.  But given the obvious lack of intellitgence in many of the postings, particularly those by "fuck it Yost", this board has become a bastion for many moronic Michigan fans that would be better of rooting for the Spartans - a better match for your reason abilities.  A true Michigan Man would always show respect during the national anthem, knowing that he would not want to offend the millions of fans, even if pop culture says he should.  Instead, JAILbrill has joined the Morons of the MIdway,  Can't wait not to watch him play.

You know that scene in Twelve Angry Men where Juror 10 goes on a rant about how obviously the defendant is guilty because "those people", and one by one the other jurors walk away until 10 is left isolated? 1957 thinks your argument is gross.

Ive read every comment. Just so everyone knows, instead of actually making a post, I'll just say that i agree with everything Mr. Yost has said. I know everyone was just dying to hear my analysis. On a side note, LSA, I hope you just went to bed man. The death star will be operational in the morning.

Come onnnnnn September 2... Y'all can speak the truth as you see it but we need to start looking at each other not as an avatar or a screen name but recognize that there's a person on the other end. The internet is dehumanizing every debate and argument so we feel like we can just rant and foam at the mouth... I respect my country and truly believe it's the best, biggest force for good in the world, but we've got issues folks. What I'd request is that you recognize that none of these issues is inherent in our nation, nor does it legitimize or de-legitimize it. These issues are with the human heart and no amount of protesting, arguing, fighting or violence are going to change hearts or minds. It's just going to make them more frenzied and radical. So I'm not going to fight any of you. I hurt with the families that sacrificed a member who served in the military to keep their country free, and to whom the national anthem speaks something so deep and meaningful. I also empathize with people who are feeling discriminated against and fear they're bit by bit losing the freedoms that this country is supposed to afford them just because of the color of their skin. After some sick displays these past few weeks, regardless of their daily experience, I don't blame them for being afraid and white folks like me need to recognize these displays as the evil that they are. I'm going to give these guys a little bit of grace and while during the anthem wouldn't have been my choice, it's the choice they made to maximize the reach of their voice and that's their right. I hope and pray that soon we'll make strides as people and a society that lifts them off their knees and makes them feel proud to stand for that anthem again. None of is that hard; just live with charity to all, malice toward none and respect each other. And stop bitching at each other on the internet. (Rant over and I apologize- I come here to escape, follow my favorite team and screw around, poke fun and laugh at people, but it's been a hard, emotional couple weeks and I'm just so sick of watching people fight over stupid stuff...just love each other, dammit.)

Everybody should be kneeling. I live abroad, and American professionals have started to arrive in my city. They describe themselves as running from Trump's America. They don't want to raise their kids there. You can beat your chest during the anthem all you want, but the US is, at best, going through serious difficulties. Hats off to the people who respect the flag enough to admit something is wrong.

Sick of people spouting their politics on this site ... its like someone posting a picture of their asshole and expecting people to think its nice looking. Everyone has an asshole and nobody cares what yours looks like.

Politics and views aside, you are in-American if you have a problem with somebody expressing their views in a peaceful manner. That's the whole point behind this country and why we all love it!

Amen. I personally do not like anyone disrespecting the symbol under which many have given their lives for our freedom.  I also believe anyone has the right to peacefully speak in any manner they choose including refusing to stand for the national anthem.  I have not watched a single snap of NFL football since this all started.  It is my statement to the league and the advertisers that I feel the lives of our fallen soldiers, among other things, are more important than expressing displeasure with anything in this country by disrespecting the flag.  Honestly havent missed the NFL much and have much more time on Sundays for other activities.  I have to admit it would be harder to give up college football--but I also feel a college student voicing their political views in such a way is less offensive than a professional athlete who is reaping the benefits afforded them by that very symbol.
