alligators typically can't get above 7-8 mph. Pollack's science sucks.
August 11th, 2017 at 1:39 PM ^
Sounds a lot like the things that were being said prior to the Citrus Bowl. That vaunted Gator defense held us to just 41 points, while that SEC speed blazed the way to a single UF touchdown.
August 11th, 2017 at 1:53 PM ^
If FLA had given a shit - and if they were better at football - their speed might have helped.
August 11th, 2017 at 2:23 PM ^
I'm sure similarly nonsensical claims will be made how they weren't psyched up for SEC season when they played Michigan if we blow them out again this time. There are always excuses made for SEC teams when they perform shitty in OOC games in order to justify the perceived dominance of the SEC in relation to the rest of the conference.
August 11th, 2017 at 1:48 PM ^
Proof that you don't need to actually pay attention to college football in order to be put on the air.
This isn't Bo's Michigan team anymore with a bunch of big, slow Midwest kids. Harbaugh has recruited all over the country, and has a roster that is just as fast as most of these Southern teams, and at least as many "freaks" on defense as Florida.

does not check out...
But much harder for VIPER!!! to improve

Obviously, this is stuff you want to hear. But these are fluff quotes turned into a news story, I don't think they actually tell us anything.

was also mentioned in Webb's tidbits as practically sitting in the lap of the QB. . . on a shotgun snap.
If that's the same guy who's saying the OL has improved, what was he doing before?

Pep actually said "several occasions" Hurst did that. He also said they tried to triple team Rashan and he still flushed the QB.
That said, there's a clip of Cole knocking Hurst to the ground on MgoBlue's Twitter.

To where it has traditionally been at Michigan, the offense will be scary EVERY YEAR. Harbaugh's blue chip skill position recruits behind a dominant O Line....Gonna get real good!!
GO BLUE!!
August 11th, 2017 at 1:57 PM ^
This makes sense if you look at what we had versus what is returning, and it also conincides with exactly what we need to roll through the first six games to Pedo St.
August 11th, 2017 at 2:01 PM ^
I've said for a while that this year's o line will be addition by subtraction.
August 11th, 2017 at 2:25 PM ^
That's what we said going into 2013. We were really, really wrong.
And the new guys coming in were hot prospects, too.

Franklin (I know.....I know) has been touting that his OL is the best he has had since being there and will be one of the best in the Big Ten. BTT has parrot that same message. My question is.....
PSU was in shambles with their sanctions just a mere 3 years ago, yet this year they feel that they will have, at minimum, above average OL play, but here we do not seem to be overly satisfied with the perforamce of our line play and like to point all the way back to Funk as the Root Cause. What happens if this comes to fruition (PSU = very good; M = average)??????
PS: I am in the belief that this year will be a watershed / breakout year for the OL and running game in general. I just think that the media is too busy jerking themselves over Barkley and McSorley to care about anything else......
August 11th, 2017 at 2:46 PM ^
Greg Frey is going to be the hire of the year.
August 11th, 2017 at 2:58 PM ^
Hurst: I'm only getting to the QB on 4 out of 5 snaps instead of 5 out of 5 like I was in the spring.
August 11th, 2017 at 3:02 PM ^
I'll reserve judgment on that until I see them hold their own against a very good, athletic Florida defense. I've been fooled too many times in recent years with hearing how vastly improved the offense has been.
It's certainly improved leaps and bounds under Harbaugh, but it has yet to make a dent in being able to run effectively against truly good defenses.

But, I carved out a few minutes last night to turn on the Redskins game, since they signed Kalis. Over the last 2 years, I've always been puzzled as to the difference of what I see when watching him in a game and the accolades he received (earning big ten honors can't be that cheap). Sure enough, in the few plays that I watched him, he remains the master of blocking no one. Who knows if he was over-rated coming out of HS, but it's certain that he didn't get the proper coaching his first few years at UM...along with the others. If the Redskins were willing to take a chance on Kalis, when his film is so bad, they must be hurting for OL. Yet not Kalis nor Braden not Magnusun (all with great pedigrees) got drafted. That shows how badly they were coached. There is no way that the current offensive line, even with the youth, would be any worse than last year's. It will be improved by just having another guy or two actually hit a defensive player, even if it's the wrong one.
August 11th, 2017 at 4:13 PM ^
These guys got 2 years of coaching from Drevno and had limited improvement. It can't all be on the coaching. Unless you read more into the fact we brought in the guy from Indiana, which now that I think about it, might have more meaning than we previously thought.
August 11th, 2017 at 6:53 PM ^
Yea Frey is a better line coach than Drevno. Thats why he was brought here. Drevno is the OC.
August 11th, 2017 at 7:09 PM ^
I'll have to see it to believe it, but I have a lot of faith in Frey finally fixing the O-line.

'Most improved' relative to what?
To last year's OL play? Or to this year's OL line play at the start of camp?
