[LOCKED] OT: Golden State Warriors unanimously vote to skip customary White House visit
It didn’t take the Golden State Warriors long to decide to skip the traditional championship White House visit.
Less than 24 hours after winning the 2017 NBA Finals on Monday night, the Warriors unanimously voted to decline the White House ceremony honoring their Finals win over the Cleveland Cavaliers, according to several reports including one by CNBC analyst Josh Brown.
The Warriors attended the White House ceremony to honor their 2015 NBA Finals title when former President Barack Obama was in the White House.

MOD EDIT - ....and locked. It's interesting news, to be sure, but this thread.....yeesh. - LSA
vote for Trump because he's a misogynistic pig (which he is)
just like they didn't vote for Bill Clinton because he is a sexual predator (which he is)
just like they didn't vote for Bush 2 and Obama because they were drunks and cokeheads in college (which they were)
they vote based on their pocketbook - pure and simple - if you don't have a job all of the rest of the BS doesn't matter
people don't look to the President as their moral compass - look at the 2 most gentlemanly Presidents of our time - Carter and Bush 1 - both kicked out of office after one term because of the economy
Then why, Mr. Putin, did you WORK SO DAMNED HARD TO GET HIM ELECTED???
It was already on life support as politics began to dominate every aspect of the national consciousness.
I hope we can go back to a time where politics was important to people but not the overwhelmingly dominant factor in our day to day life and conversations.
Are you referring to the Warriors or the White House?
equally upset when trump didn't throw out the first pitch of a baseball game this year because for the last few presidents they have... that sounds a lot like tradition to me. When small things are cherry picked it can make either side look bad.
I think he has a couple of times and did a decent job at it. I feel like I remember reading some where that he was scouted for some minor league teams back in the day but I am too lazy to google.
I don't get the tradition part of it. It's a photo-op. It's nothing more or less. Trump is a NY guy; if he roots for any teams, they probably aren't a team from Cleveland or Oakland/SF. Obama the same; other than the Blackhawks I doubt he rooted for any team that came to the WH while he was there.
To me, going to the WH is the same as Super Bowl winners going to Disneyworld. It's a marketing ploy and if they stopped doing it, the world would be fine.
Darn! I wanted another Gronk moment.
Wussies
Right now, a million internet gangsters are warming up their fingers to launch their "STICK TO SPORTS!!" takes all day.
I don't see the resemblance. The guy in the picture is sitting up straight, almost as if he has a spine.
"If Trump were black, they'd be there....."
"If Trump were black he'd be in prison."
Hate has become universally popular and accepted today. Scary that as a society we have brought extremists like the KKK into mainstream by making their unbridled hatred acceptable for everyone. Wouldnt it have been better if we had eliminated behavior like this rather than making it the 'in thing' to do???
it is. The comment that brings the thread down. I think it has lived for twelve minutes. Not too bad actually.
Because not going to see a president is totally on the same field as the KKK.
Good
isn't on ESPN's front page yet
The Warriors will probably with the ESPY Courage Award for this
...less
I'd be suprised if half of them even voted.
Agreed. I want to see the vote tally!
Did any of them abstain, or was it truly unanimous?
I'm especially interested to know if JaVale McGee voted. He seems like he could've been a swing vote in all of this.
/s
I took his comment as half of the players didn't actually vote in the November election
You must've missed my "/s"
This is how I took his comment, and I tend to believe the same thing. I do, however, believe the team vote to not go to the WH was unanimous with the entire team casting a vote!
dem....olition expert? Why is that relevant?
Oh boy. Wouldn't want to cut into Talking Cars Tuesday discussion time.
Good for them. It's a stupid tradition anyway, no matter who is in office.
****
I don't know when it became the cool thing to skip those ceremonies to prove a point. I know Jordan and Bird have skipped those things before, but they went other times with the same POTUS in office.
Oh well, ESPN is pissed because they probably would've spent a whole day covering the event with Lavar Ball in studio to narrate.
If we win the National Title in the next 3 years. Would you be upset if the team went to the White House?
I know it would be optional for players, and they could choose, but the coaches would probably go.
to tell whomever is in office to support legal representation for the poor - he is about causes, not party - he has affiliated with both parties from time to time - good man
Not so sure about that. Jim Harbaugh was at a Hillary Clinton rally the day before the election last year, in the middle of football season; that's a pretty political statement. He's been invited to the Obama White House multiple times as well (and has had high praise for Michelle in particular).
a Republican for Board of Regents or something
Yes, because Board of Regents is definitely the position where partisan politics matters more than anything and not the least political position on the entire state ballot...
/s
The President of the United States on the other hand...
though they should get rid of regents being 100% state wide elected
He's testifying before Congress some time this week or next, if i remember the calendar right.
He didn't support anyone for the Board of Regents election. His wife and Bo's wife did. That's a key distinction.
