Can we please stop name-dropping that piece of shit? This place has really gone to hell lately.

I feel like the old MGoBlog would have roasted the jackass and then forgot he existed, not mention the troll in every recruiting thread multiple times.

I heard this on NPR on my way in to work and was in total disbelief. I only recently really got into his show, but it had already completely changed how I view the world.

Recently, he covered rural West Virginia on one of his shows.  It is an area I have spent some time working in.  He and the rest of the crew did such an amazing job of highlighting the humanity and struggle of a population that has been exploited for so long.

Tony will be greatly missed and never replaced.

06/08/2018 - 12:41pm I had thought the same thing…

I had thought the same thing when I saw Eric was the one to find him. They had such a great friendship on the show.  You could tell these were two grown men that had a great relationship and enjoyed each other's company.

05/25/2018 - 11:10am Not really a comparison

It was documented that the guy came off as complacent to Harbaugh.  If I remember correctly, it seemed he slacked off his senior year and declined to come work out at the University. I am sure that when he had his offer pulled, he got a fire lit under him and decided he would show the doubters that they were wrong.

His performance at Oklahoma does not necessarily directly correlate to his potential performance at Michigan. For example, see Peters.  He was third string and complacent, according to the accepted narrative. Once it looked like he would get his shot, he took his role serious and buckled down to learn the playbook. Motivation can be a huge determining factor when looking at performance.

04/26/2018 - 4:01pm Arrested Development

Agree with Park and Rec and the office.  Right up there with those is Arrested deveopment.  If you haven't seen it, then I highly recommend it.  There are so many layers to the comedy and allusions to other things in the show that it is almost endlessly rewatchable.  I have been through the original seasons at least 4 times and still pick up things that I didn't notice before.

04/18/2018 - 3:52pm Maroney received settlement Dec 2016

I googled Maroney and one detail emerged that I don't rememeber being discussed.  Apparently Maroney sued him and USA Olympics and won in December 2016.  Where does that fall in the timeline?  If they were willing to give her a settlement over over 1 million, at that time, then any defense of "We didn't know this was going on, we thought the accusations were baseless", would be shown to be completely incorrect.

To a degree, I can understand how people could let this happen under their nose.  It would be difficult to believe that someone you respect could be a total monster.  But, if they settled with a former athlete and then hid the lawsuit from all other entities, then this is another level for USA Olympics.

I know we are all quite focused on Michigan and think every win should move the needle. But, last year M won the whole tournament and it didnt even touch their seeding. IIRC we stayed at the same seed line that we were at prior to the BTT. We should be happy to hit the 4 line and okay with a 5.

02/02/2018 - 3:06pm Thank you for sharing.

Thank you for sharing.  My wife is a survivor from early childhood trauma.  She has done okay and is not addicted to drugs or alcohol. But, stories like yours and hers, show that there is no "one size fits all" in these situations. It is a great reminder that stories like this are far too common.

Somtimes we so quickly judge those that we are acquainted with in our day to day lives.  It can be easy to assume the worst in people.  But, if we knew their whole story we would be impressed with all they have accomplished even if it was just getting out of bed.

Ace, I told my wife about your post yesterday and how moving it was.  She has been struggling with an undiagnosed condition that is seeming more and more like what you have been going through.

Thank you for sharing and for reaffirming that those who struggle with ambiguous, misunderstood and difficult to diagnose conditions are suffering just the same or worse than others.

12/22/2017 - 3:59pm IMHO, that is the best way to

IMHO, that is the best way to make a steak. Toss it in a hot cast iron skillet with some butter. Once you have a good sear on it, put the whole pan in the oven. Then just let it cook up to the correct temperature. Use a digital meat thermometer if you are uncomfortable with judging by touch. It is tough to screw it up this way. Worst case scenario is that it ends up a little over cooked if you leave it in too long. If you want to practice with cheaper meat, you could get sirloin cut extra thick and then cut it into filet sized cuts.

Don’t be afraid to jump into using a cast iron skillet. Best bet is to get a good used one. You can get a new one and season it yourself but that takes some dedication. I did that with mine and I love it now. I used a palm sander to smooth out the roughness of a new lodge pan (I’ve been called stupid or crazy for having done this). Then I did a number of seasonings in the oven with it oiled. Now it is basically a non-stick pan but without the concern of the Teflon coming off and the added iron.

Once you get used to it, this cooking method can be used for thick pork chops and other meats.

I have friends and work with many people of differing backgrounds but only came across this exact subject once.  Hopefully this subject is not too taboo to have appropriate discussion about.

Waiting tables while in college, a server I worked with used the word in a derogatory way when she got a bad tip from a family she was waiting on.  She said it with  a hard "r" on the end.  I was surprised to hear it and asked her about it. She responded, "There are black people and there are n******. Those people were n******."  I was living in TN at the time, so it could be regional.

Disclaimer: I am a white male.

12/01/2017 - 3:33pm I live in the Charleston area

I live in the Charleston area of WV and have spent a good bit of time in the rural parts as well. What part were you in?

As a previous resident of TN(8 years) and currently WV(13 years), I can agree that there is a surface of manners and hospitality.  But, under that, is a quickness to assume the worst intentions and to behave as rude as any other culture but behind your back.  In my opinion it is worse to pretend to be nice and actually be the opposite of your pretense.

My wife(who is from Parkersburg, WV) and I have been told numerous times, "well you are northerners. We can't expect you to understand."
