Dakich shouldnt have said "dumb" or brought up admissions, and Izzo should be the bigger man and not drone on about it. He should stick up for his players and fanbase, but saying he wished he was in the Izzone to join the chants? That's pretty childish.

Crap. I went to CMU, probably couldn't have got into Michigan myself because I didn't involve myself in enough on campus but was still a damn good student.

Spare me this BS that Michigan is the only good in-state school. Yes, I know PLENTY of people that went to MSU and are doing great. I know it's a total shock that there are other schools in Michigan besides U of M and it is entirely possible to do well without a Michigan degree.

I find these comments so exhausting considering I'm a CMU grad and my alma actually has lower requirements compared to MSU and Michigan.

The vast majority of people would choose to go to Michigan over Michigan State (and I'm sure the numbers, if they exist, would back this up), but obviously not all when we are talking about tens of thousands of people with different interests, priorities, financial situations, etc. I was simply saying that you are refuting a point he never made. If you want to read superiority into his comments, fine, but don't claim he said things he never said.

Did he say that, or are you internalizing it? It's true that Michigan has more stringent admissions standards than MSU or other in-state schools, and that most people would choose to attend it if given the option. That's not to say that you can't get a good education elsewhere.

Dude, where did he say that MSU and other directional Michigan schools' grads couldn't be successful?

He simply stated that the majority of MSU grads probably wouldn't have been accepted to UM. You are the one who made the inferential leap that he "must" be disparaging other Michigan schools' grads.

Sounds a little "lil broish" to me, tbh.

Wrong. My best friend got a 24 and had a 3.4 and got into Michigan. Granted, the rest of us who did were above those (not all by much), but saying a 26 and a 3.68 won't get you in is just plain false.

He is a white male with no special experience or outstanding achievement. In fact, out of the whole group of us friends who were accepted there (7 in all), only one of us had over a 27 on the ACT. The GPAs ranged from 3.9 down to 3.4 and none of us were legacy students or minorities. So while I know this is purely anecdotal and the admission standards are much higher as a whole, I would say to others that maybe not always believe everything you hear or read. Maybe the in-state talent was low that year. haha

Go check out the freshmen admission profiles:

https://admissions.umich.edu/apply/freshmen-applicants/student-profile

https://admissions.msu.edu/apply/international/before-you-apply/admissi…

Michigan (mid 50% range) : ACT (30-34), Avg GPA: 3.987

MSU (mid 50% range) : ACT (24-28), GPA(3.4-3.9)

The bottomline is that 75% of MSU students would not get into Michigan with the true percentage closer to 90-95%.

having watched my niece and her friends go through the process last year.  Much more accomplished (nothing less than a 30 and 3.75) getting deferrals while at the same time being accepted at Stanford and Northwestern.  Eventually all but one were accepted but of the 5 in the deferral boat, 3 told Michigan basically to fuck off, they were heading to arguably better schools.

There's always more to it than just the baseline qualifications for the candidate. From what I recall (someone can correct if this is no longer true) it also depends on which college/program within the university that the student applies. The college of engineering has different requirements than LSA, which is different than nursing, music, art & architecture, etc. Plus, there are limitations on the number of students each college can accept, so there is also incentive to apply early. Even if an applicant meets the minimum university requirements, they might be deferred froma specific college/program.

GPAs are sure different then I was a kid but even more before. Everyone gets an A these days. A 4.0 is ok now they have 4.3s. When I was in high school a 3.68 was top 10 percent.

tons of people who got into UM with those stats. Though incidentally, all were from the state of Michigan, though admissions "doesn't" take preference on that anymore...................

This is just sad all the way around. Dakich didn't need to send those tweets at all, yes everyone thinks that but to say it on twitter is a different thing. And Izzo going on for about 5 minutes about how Dakich needs to apoligize and he would have chanted those things alopng with the student section just makes him look like Dakich is right. Izzo talking about how it was unprofessional and he talks about it for five minutes in a post game press conference. I'm sure the media doesn't want to hear that Tom, they want your comments on the game, not your comments on how Twitter made another person look stupid again.

Is it a coincidence that Izzo massively overreacts to a dumb tweet on the same day that some awful news comes out about the MSU athletic department?

His Dudeness

February 15th, 2017 at 9:02 AM ^

I'm not sure how many coaches listen to what the student section is chanting during a game.

Then to go into the situation unprompted at a presser... seems like a lot of focus on the wrong things.

But I know he'd never sink to that level or fall for the trolling job.

Demanding a color guy "owes him an apology" is downright silly. He trolled Izzo and he bit.

seems to be pretty blunt about calling things out. I'm not a fan of a guy in his position trolling fan bases however. That seems like bullshit to me.

Dakich is a decent announcer.  Outside of that, he can be pretty nauseating.

The radio interview he did with Brian when Dave Brandon left was a real struggle to listen to.   The condescending tone of his voice and his ability to constantly cut Brian off mid sentence was annoying as hell.

Double-D

What I like about him calling a game is he points out when a player has lack of effort or a coach makes a bone headed decision or a ref blows a call. I find myself yelling at the TV and tend to see it the way does. So many analysts stick their head in the sand and your left wondering if they are even watching the game.

Lmao I mean maybe he shouldn't have tweeted that but why is a college coach wasting his time on what a reporter thinks

I love it. If you are going to mess with a group online, no reason not to go all out and finish with the thing that group hates hearing most.

For all of the people who bring up why Dakich shouldn't say such things because he works for ESPN, it seems to me that college coaches get away with saying quite a few things that they shouldn't as well considering most (and certainly Izzo) are employees of the state. If anything it should be on Izzo to act in a more appropriate manner since he is the one who works for the public. That being said, Dakich should understand the concept of conflict of interest and maybe not indulge.

Izzo's a whiner, as is that entire fanbase. So what's the problem? They don't like being called out for it? Sissies. And don't they have actual problems to address there in EL.

Dakich is a childish, insecure twitter troll.  Izzo is, well.............just Izzo.

[and let's be real here---if Harbaugh were defending Michigan fans in a twitter war with, say, Drew Sharp, that would be just one more reason to love Harbaugh.]

Clearly, Izzo is upset about MSU being referred to as a 'back-up' school.

In light of recent events I've got to go with Dakich on this one -  MSU has lost the right to be called a 'safety' school.

I can understand anyone being frustrated with Dakich (as pretty much all UofM fans were before his kid saw the light), but for a coach to whine about Dakich's twitter trolling antics?  Seriously?  Oh wait, it's Izzo.  Nevermind.  I can see him whining about anything, but I'd really like to see him at a wine tasting so that he could whine about wine.  That seems fitting.
