I love his complete douchebag move when she calls him out where he tries to make it look like SHE'S the one with the problem. He says he was joking at the beginning but then doubles down by saying they will be mediocre. smh

Facebook posts but for Wilson's I actually jumped in to tell people they're not being good football fans making us all look bad. That's just a small sample of what I read. On Facebook there's no way of controlling it other then to call them out. Wolverines247 is plagued with terrible fans.

I will never understand why anyone, let alone an adult, tweets at high school and college athletes that they do not know.  There is absolutely nothing to be gained by this.

Repeat of a common knowledge joke.

What do M,  Msu, and osu fans have in common?

They are all obsessed w M Football.

Let's be like Zeke the dog. Always a good day. Loyalty, integrity, and character. Let's try to use some common sense, cause common sense is not common.

This type of thing is bad for many reasons, but the stupidity is further compounded by the fact that Wilson is not an early enrollee and Harbaugh's staff is still working to flip him.

This is certainly not cool, but it's not like anything can be down. There are countless fans that aren't coming to this site to get this advice, and as others have pointed out numerous times, expecting any type of sanity from social networking is an exercise in futility.

I wonder how many of these accounts are fake trolls that are really fans for other teams. Some of this is so stupid that's not without reason.

Of course the last few months has brought leadership where twitter trolling is a respected character trait. It will only get worse.

Don't engage with players or recruits?  I agree, not really necessary.  But then again, recruits themselves are always asking for fans to "show them love" and what not so it's not quite black and white.

I personally don't engage with them at all.  And obviously I agree that we shouldn't berate a player or their family.  But as far as engaging with a family, this seems like one of the most mild cases.  In the Social Media world, I think that players in their families might take a little responsibility too.  "Must be a fan of mediocricy" is what prompted Mrs. Wilson's reply?  Granted, Bruce didn't exactly ooze class in his rebuttal.

And also, I agree that our fan base has a brutal faction.  But it's not limited to us.  We just have more fans so our volume is greater, and therefore the effect might be a little louder.

I think a more realistic solution to the "Don't Tweet at recruits or their families" is to not tweet them racist, violent, or crude things.  Beyond that I think the recruits and their families need to acknolwedge that the internet and the world is full of trolls and it's partially on them not to pull a Jamelle Hill and engage every tweet.  Ignorance is biliss, just be happy that your son chose a good program, and a good school and move on.

Just my two cents.  I was expecting a lot worse from this particular offense.

Great Post....because people who aren't dicks don't bother recruits and those who are dicks will continue to bother recruits. Why do we get these posts once a month? Do you think your post is going to swing a person from doing it? I was always a fan of just ignoring posts, but this constant look at me stuff is tired. It is going to be a LONG......LONG offseason.

If we just ignore it we are pussies and you know what? Yeah, Pussies don't like dicks ... because pussies get fucked by dicks. But dicks also fuck assholes - assholes who just want to shit on everything. Pussies may think they can deal with assholes their way, but the only thing that can fuck an asshole is a dick, with some balls. The problem with dicks is that sometimes they fuck too much, or fuck when it isn't appropriate - and it takes a pussy to show 'em that. But sometimes pussies get so full of shit that they become assholes themselves, because pussies are only an inch-and-a-half away from assholes. I don't know much in this crazy, crazy world, but I do know that if you don't let us fuck this asshole, we are going to have our dicks and our pussies all covered in shit.

Makes me cringe as an adult man to read this garbage.  I once was following a recruit on Twitter and after a day or so of high school related tweets -- like the kid in homeroom next to him stinking of Axe body spray and some shorty in his science class -- I unfollowed and felt ashamed for ever doing it ....

much less Tweeting at a kid or his parents.  (Though I did tweet @DCaff after he committed a simple, #GoBlue which was re-tweeted by Ed McCaffrey, but I have met Ed and Christian and he knew it was me).

Deplorable and wholly creepy.  Get a fucking life, Bruce!

Don't know who that guy is but so many thoughts/questions.

1. The comment is one thing, but the disrespectful response to the mom about "panties in a bunch".  It's never funny- and it's especially not funny when you say it to a woman.

2. Dang are we really that bad of a fan base? That's unnerving to hear.

3. What kind of phone is that- and is that comic sans font?!

4. What is that octopus logo looking thing? Interesting app.

I can't stand these people who feel a need to take disappointment out in a 17 year old kid, unfortunately there's no magic potion to make stupid people smart or classy.

So, obviously there is significant consensus that this is just wrong. That you should never ever disparage a 17 year old recruit under any circumstances.

My question:  is it appropriate to "out" someone like Bruce Feltenbarger? If someone knows who this person is, is it fair game to post his picture, his home address, his phone number, etc., etc., etc. I really hate internet trolls who can do stuff like this, and really think that guys like "Bruce" should be held accountable. Should be on the receiving end of the kind of abuse he's willing to dole out over the internet.

But I know when Brian outed the student who was trying to create a new "song," there was a lot of blowback from mgousers. So my question is this. What is more important to you:

  1. Holding someone publicly accountable (for abusing internet privileges with twitter, social media)
  2. Maintaining privacy of people, regardless of what they do.

My take is that I feel you keep the 'outing' to whatever is readily available online, with no real sleuthing needed, then there's no harm. Bruce made public comments under his own name. He wasn't using an avatar. I made a joke about him working at Wendy's because Bruce disclosed that himself on his public Facebook page. Facebook has privacy settings -- Bruce chose what to make public, including his comments.

unfortunately, it is still a necessary reminder. all it takes is one or two screwups (remember Rashan Gary Clemson phone call?) to undermine a ton of hard work by the coaching staff
