I've honestly never heard of a true freshman playing center. And if they did, it was likely for a bad team.
December 14th, 2016 at 9:44 PM ^
My concern is the blindside of our QB and needing an experienced LT. But good points made on not having a true freshman starting at C.
December 14th, 2016 at 10:18 PM ^
I totally agree with this.
While it is rare for a Frosh to start at C, Ruiz is a beast and could do it.
Cole-Bredeson-Ruiz-Onwenu-Filiaga/Wilson could be a possibility.
If we don't land Filiaga or Wilson it could be Bushell-Beatty at right tackle.
December 14th, 2016 at 7:10 PM ^
Next year will be patchwork regardless of who we bring in, the tackles are a huge question mark, and I'm not counting on any of our targets to start as true freshmen, and oh well, it is what it is for next year.
This class has to get some OTs for 2 years down the road, and if we don't, that only delays the chances at a dominant line for another year. Newsome was it for '15 and that's a question mark now. Struck out in '16, so we can't afford a third year in a row with long shots.
That's the way it is, we're not loaded with depth where we can afford to miss on a guy like Wilson. Hopefully 2 years from now we'll be in that position.
December 14th, 2016 at 10:36 PM ^
Tell that to the guys who were top 5/10 guys and went to bama and ole miss who started from day 1 and are now in the NFL. Its not common but when it happens for one of the best college football teams in the nation its something to take into consideration

Whims of 17-18 year olds...not paying attention until NSD...Trust Harbaugh...eh, we have a big class anyway...coaching staff cooled on him..it's not over...etc..etc

Posters who post without anything to say... lots of unnecessary ellipses... strawman arguments... ignore evidence that doesn't support the narrative... etc... etc...

and it was kinda funny. Some of the commenters never add anything to a conversation and I'm sure that bothers him. Also, he needs to live up to his name

I agree...
December 14th, 2016 at 3:29 PM ^
And please don't say "Crootin!". Wilson has been high on Michigan for ages it seems like. I hate to think something fishy might be going on given there's an SEC team involved. But hopefully, this is just a bunch of smoke with no fire. Maybe Sam Webb will have an update tomorrow on this - a positive one.

Sometimes kids like other schools after they see them.

Long time Michigan lean flips after trip to SEC school? Hard to say.....

Wilson's a lifelong Georgia fan?
December 14th, 2016 at 9:20 PM ^
Since you asked, it seems that Wilson did have a strong UGA fandom growing up. Here's an article from September 2015 which claims Wilson developed a fondness for UGA growing up by watching games with his father.
https://www.dawgnation.com/football/recruiting/uga-offers-5-star-prospe…;
They quote Wilson talking to AJC: “UGA was always a childhood favorite of mine"

My guess, is that this is speculative on the heels of the Georgia visit. While it's not happy news, I'm not super worried about it.
Right now.

That's pretty tough talk for a one-eyed fat man!

Didn't he just move up his decision date? We're screwed.

Its actually 2 incredibly accurate guys with zero affiliation to either school switching to the team that got the last face time with the kid. It isn't ideal news.

So in your opinion, why would two national guys who tend to be very good at these things put in a pick for a darkhorse two days before a commitment? Shits and giggles?
December 14th, 2016 at 3:51 PM ^
Also it is a pretty common practice for recruits and insiders to draw attention around decision time.
December 14th, 2016 at 4:22 PM ^
If it was two random dudes putting in the picks, I'd buy the bogus info angle a little more. But its two seasoned recruiting guys.
And I did see that Lorenz posted something about it, but I don't have VIP access on 247. So hopefully this is all just building up hype for what was otherwise a fairly straightforward commitment.
Every damn year I try not and get sucked into these things, and every damn year it happens. Stupid recruiting.

Maybe they're receiving bad info? Maybe Wilson knows that a bunch of grown adults hang on every single crystal ball that's placed and wants to drum up some drama?
December 14th, 2016 at 10:03 PM ^
Yea and maybe he visited campus and moved his decision day up, just to rub it their face!

Wilson as opposed to being the last possible dudes to pick him for Michigan.

Its two CBs, and they are from Ryan Bartow who has a very high accuracy with these things (2nd nationally) and Keith Niebuhr who is also pretty good (9th nationally).
Neither of those guys have any reason to go out on a limb two days before a commitment unless they know something.
December 14th, 2016 at 3:45 PM ^
If you look at their history, both of those guys have a lot of correct predictions that they put in within a few days before commitments...
