per ESPN: "Texas AD Mike Perrin has put out a statement declaring coach Charlie Strong's job will be evaluated after the regular season."

Like this will fool anybody.

Strong seems like a good guy... I hope for his sake his career doesn't follow the same trajectory that RR's has.

Shocked he lasted this long.. those Texas kids were not coached on fundamental shit based on how sloppy they executed at least the times I saw them play.

Charlie Strong was a lot like Tom Herman when he went to Texas.  He went 11-2 and 12-1 at Louisville back when they were in the Big East. It will be interesting to see if Herman goes there whether he'll do better.  At least he has some roots in the state of Texas when it comes to recruiting.

create a pretty interesting domino effect.  Was reading this morning about just the Texas schools (Strong likely out, Herman a candidate at Texas or LSU or Florida State or wherever, Kingsbury on the hotseat at Tech, Sumlin waning at A&M, Baylor's mess) and what might happen amongst them.

Not sure who you're calling an idiot. They wanted to fire him last year and gave him
One more shot. Things were looking great for awhile and now it's back to another mediocre year. Doesn't work in Texas idiot.

Texas comes with more pressure but building a juggernaut in the Big 12 is going to be way easier than the SEC West and fighting Alabama, Auburn, LSU, and the Mi$$i$$ippi schools. Texas has the tradition, better location, school etc. And definitely more money to throw at a coach. Not really seeing where TAMU is close to as attractive. USC maybe...but Helton's job seems safe now. LSU is a really good job, but still, I'd say Texas has the most appeal.

Longhorns lost to Kansas for the first time since 1938. It was a matter of time.

Going to be an interesting offseason as far as coaching changes. Where do Les Miles and Charlie Strong end up? Does ND axe Kelly? Does Chip come back to NCAA?

As long as he can still recruit and relate to young kids, I wonder, what's the downside of having an old coach if you're a Purdue? And Miles certainly has recruited successful and related to younger players.

If he fails, you'll fire him in 3-4 seasons before his age comes into play. If he succeeds, I mean, yeah, you've probably gotta replace him in 7 years or something when he retires but after a decent run of some sort and a better foundation and roster for the program are in place. And wouldn't a successful young coach at Purdue probably leave after a similar period of time for a better job anyway?

I can see it as an issue at an Notre Dame/LSU/Texas/Oregon that can afford to be picky and maybe hope to be able to retain a coach for 15-20 years if all goes well. THose are destination jobs, rather than stops on a career ladder job like a Purdue/NC State/Oregon State/Arizona etc. I guess to me, if I'm at Purdue and I've gone....3-29, ouch, in B1G games the last 4 years then I'd rather take a flyer on a Miles who won a ton of games in the SEC the last dozen years but is an old dude rather than take another shot at the latest MAC coach de jour. Even then, I mean, how many coaches have had their jobs for more than a decade or so? Stoops, Gary Patterson, Ferentz? That's about it. The days of coaches sticking around for 20-25 years are fading.

I hope Strong does very well somewhere else as a slap in the face to these "boosters." Unless I've missed something, he seems like a class act and turned a nothing program, Louisville, into a national power.

program.  John L Smith (yes, him) really set a good foundation for Petrino to build on.

Louisville was 5-6 and 1-10 in the 2 seasons before Smith.  John L Smith then had 5 winning seasons in 5 seasons overall, going 41-21 in total.

Petrino then went 41-9 in his 4 seasons immediately following Smith.

Petrino was great at Louisville but Smith was pretty darn good too.

"Progress"  doesn't mean that much when you're talking about going from sub-.500 to .500.  At a school like Michigan or Texas, that's pretty much regression to the mean.

It's hard to spin 5-6 in year 3 (when years 1 and 2 were equally bad) as anything other than a disaster when you are talking about a program of this stature.

There's no way he would've survived losing to a team Texas hadn't lost to in almost 80 years.  There was such a huge job to do there he really should get one more year, but unfortunately not a surprise.

Texas HAS to land Herman now.  Recently writers have said it'll start at $5.5 million for whoever gets him.  They need to just offer Herman $7 million and get him locked up ASAP.
