Pride comes before the fall

Submitted by ThadMattasagoblin on

They laughed at us when we suggested that Harbaugh could come back to Michigan. They said that Harbaugh couldn't recruit last year when MSU was outrecruiting us during the summer. They said that Harbaugh wouldn't win more than 6 games in his first season. They acted as if their win last year in AA was indicative of their skill level instead of being incredibly lucky. They said that Michigan was overrated preseason at 7 and would not beat their Spartans in East Lansing. Now they clutch to the moral victory of holding us to a nine point win like all Spartans fans did from 1969-2007. They became too prideful and are now experiencing the fall.

Go check the box score again... Especially the rushing yards.  Staee took it to Michigan today.  We got lucky Sparty sucked in the red zone.  Michigan looked tired in the 4th quarter.

"Staee" took it so hard to Michigan they lost...

No mention of the D-line and company stepping up in the red zone when they needed to.. check the numbers from last year's win over Minnesota, we lost in comparison on most of the stat lines but still won the game, thankfully wins are all that matter.

Context man, context.

The response was to the notion that Michigan destroyed MSU today.  They didn't.  State ran all over Michigan today; thankfully they were completely inept in the red zone.  Michigan also let up in the 4th quarter.

I'm as happy as the next person for a W.

It just amazes me how the roles were reversed. From 2010-2015, their fans did everything they criticized us for doing. And I found out, even though they didn't expect to win they don't take kindly to trash talk. So much pride, so much fall.

I love these threads that show up in the post game. Regardless of what preceded it, this fall is pretty hard. And it might get worse.

a lot of the negativity here today is not because we only won by 9 points, it's because we only won by 9 points when everyone predicted a 5 to 8 TD win today. Imagine if Sparty had won after that buildup hype on our side. They would have lived off it for a 100 years.

In the end we didn't fall but we flirted with it just enough to feel pretty uncomfortable about it. If you go in there expecting a 50 point win and in the last second you wonder 'can you advance an onside kick recovery?' you know you were prideful, you know you were wrong.

The win was anticlimactic and maybe we all wanted that climactic win just a bit too much after last year and all the MSU smack talk over the last 8 years and it blinded us to the realities of playing your rivals on the road.

What's ironic about this thread is all the idiots on this board who were predicting we'd win by 5-6 TDs.

Had we lost today, that would've been the epitome of pride comes before the fall. Moreso than anything Mike Hart ever could've said.

I think we will look back at the end of the season and appreciate this game. Close enough that our guys will feel like they need to work incredibly hard to beat OSU and make a run. They will get the most out of their talent I thing. I hope. Go Blue.

Sparty's got some issues that aren't getting fixed this off season.  But jesus, what is this like 4 years in a row they've cobbled together an injured offensive line thats looked horrible all year long into some kind of functioning unit in their one game Super Bowl.  So tired of that.

As far back as Hoke's first year I think we thought Mike Martin & RVB would be living in the backfield with MSU's trash O-line and they didn't. Every year it seems like we have the far superior D-line and MSU finds some way to neutralize it

Today I thought I saw a ton of doubling the DTs on the inside but not positive of that

My guess is all you bitter bitches are upset because you put money on Michigan to cover a big spread. This was always going to be a dog fight. And even though the score was close you're insane if you don't think Brown and Harbaugh played safe late.

Take the W. Give your arrogant Spartan friends the finger. It's on to the next one.

To get back to being bowl eligible, which I am sure they will be soon, they are going to have to focus more on other games besides the Michigan game.   Will be interesting which MSU team shows up the rest of the year.

seems to be getting to Dantonio. That and Michigan being undefeated. He has been making some crazy decisions lately. The fake field goal from 36 yards out on the last play of the half last week and today's 2 point conversion while down 7 with one second to play. And 8 games into the season and he can't decide who his QB is.
