the article says he's made enemies during his time in Ann Arbor, it does not specify where those enemies are.

We know that many of them are in SEC territory and in other Big Ten football programs.

We also know he's made lots of new friends during his time in Ann Arbor, but the article is not about that.  It about what a great coach James Franklin is and what a bright future he and Penn State share.  I wouldn't want them to say anything different at this point.

I was initially convinced that the billboard was a fake, because I thought that there is no way someone would put that up and fail to see the hypocrisy of it all.  But then I remembered that what appears to be the majority of their fanbase still worships Joe Paterno.

It is the most tonedeaf thing I've seen in a while.  A long while.

It must be soul crushing for a once proud and dominant program to be reduced to this. From thinking that joining the B1G would be a piece of cake, to their legendary child molesting enabling coach being fired, to hiring a fraud in Frankin. Sad, just sad.

when the term "Linebacker U" was coined, they were in the conversation about the best in the country. In 1986, they went 12-0 and beat 11-0 Miami (YTM) in the Fiesta Bowl.

But their east coast regular season schedule was never as tough as the other national title contenders.  For fun, check out the Lambert Trophy, given annually to the best FBS team in the East. Penn State has won it an impressive 29 times; the second most frequent winner, with 7 trophies is Army (YTA).

he is their brady hoke, in as much as that guy has an excuse ready at all times for penn states lack of success. we are too young, we are still recovering from unfair sanctions. too many injuries. and on top of all that , they have the best and brightest young men on their team, win or lose.

but the worst of all is when you say you wouldnt, sell your soul for harbaugh, and yet you had sandusky and paterno on that campus for years and accepted that success quite easily.

He failed to mention that this the same James Franklin who setup a hostess program at Vanderbilt, then when one of the girls was raped he allegedly tried to cover it up, then contacted the victim and tried to give her some slimy line to make her rethink her story. What a guy.

Not surprised that they forgot about that whole rape situation though. They're used to turning their backs on that kind of stuff.

That is a bizarre article. Some of the arguments run that they wouldn't want Harbaugh for fear of him leaving as he's a Michigan alum / his heart wouldn't be in it? That's... well, that's an argument I guess. The last guy says even if Harbaugh could guarantee them multiple MNCs he still wouldn't make the trade, so not exactly what the relevant criteria here are...

Did he comment "wouldn't sell my soul" he said this with a straight face defending a program that allowed a child molester free reign on campus for 30 years!!!!!! really!!!!!  WOW!!!!!!

Can someone explain to me the bit about how Michigan "sold it's soul" by getting Harbaugh? Our culture is as healthy as it's been in a long time. Harbaugh doesn't bend the rules or get involved in scandals, he literally just works harder than every other coach and for some reason people perceive that as cheating and phony

Are you referring to "Our culture is as healthy as it's been in a long time."

If so, I think you had it right the first time; "it's" is a correct contraction for "it has", whereas "its" is possesive.

But then, I'm an engineer, so my English usage leans toward the applied and away from the theoretical.

There is a strong sense, across College Football Land, that Harbaugh and Michigan are full of hubris. They are secretly glad Michigan seems to be "back", but they are pretty sure it will come crashing back down again at some point. Harbaugh will step over the line, or self-destruct, or leave, or something will blow up in our faces; and they will delight in seeing that happen. It's a morality tale.

It goes with the terriotory. People feel that way about the Cowboys, and maybe the Patriots. Alabama under Saban. USC under Carrol. The Lakers; Duke and Kentucky basketball. Right now, Michigan has to get to the point where we deserve some of that envy and enmity, with several years of sustained success ON the field.

I think he inherited a great situation from BoB and proceeded to drive it into the ground.  Instead of adapting to the talent he had, he tried to make them fit his system.  BoB went 15-9 with someone else's players and would have been bowl eligible both season he was there.

Franklin is barely above .500 with his first recruits being in their junior year.  He's lost to both of the major college programs in the state and his best finish in the B10 is 4th in the east.  PSU has always built their schedule to be bowl eligible so really the floor for evaluation should start at 6-6.

Sounds a lot like politics where they always blame the previous office holder to me.

It's been three years. If he can't beat one of the three top dogs in the east, then he needs to have the plug pulled on him. It's been three years since the sanctions were removed, with all the talent that's in Penn State's recruiting area, there's no excuse for Franklin to not even be competitive with Harbaugh, Meyer, and Dantonio.

There's this myth that James Franklin is a good coach because he had two 9-4 season at Vanderbilt but he didn't really win at Vanderbilt.

He padded his schedule with lower tier D-1 teams and got wins from down on their luck programs like Auburn, Tennessee, Kentucky and didn't have to play Bama or LSU.

James Franklin never beat anyone at Vandy. He was all hype and Penn State was just unlucky enough to buy it.
