"Instead of adapting to the talent he had, he tried to make them fit his system."  Sound like someone we used to know around here?

If Rich Rod had let Ryan Mallett know that they would be using a system that would enable him to highlight his talents, rather than make him a square peg in a round hole, things might have been a lot different here.

I like how these guys talk about how James Franklin is such a great character and seem to insinuate that Harbaugh by contrast is seedy. "I'd rather have a high character coach that gets along with everybody rather than a couple extra wins every year". I guess they realize the hypocrisy..Joepa and all.

Anyone out-coached by Brady Hoke has no business coaching a major college program.

Also, a bit ironic and hypocritical talking about Michigan selling it's soul for Harbaugh when Penn State continues to sell its own, or whatever is left of it, to idolize a man who enabled a child rapist. There is no program in America with less self-awareness than Penn State.

They're happy with their guy; we're happy with ours. What's the problem?

No reason to get sanctimonious. Franklin had nothing to do with whatever horrible things Sandusky did. If they are happy with slow, steady growth crawling back from the abyss why be petty? Why point out to the neighbor that your wife is hotter than his? What good ever comes from that?

Quite a delusional set of beat writers there - they are more than welcome to keep Franklin for as long as they want.  The rest of the Big Ten will thank them heartily (more in-conference wins for them)!

Bill "Dave Brandon" Engel:

I would take Brady Hoke over just about any coach out there.  Why?  Because he is building a program from the ground up and doing it in a way that shoud make us proud to be Michigan fans again.  He is bringing in quality players who are also high character guys who will graduate with Michigan degrees.

Anyone who is discounting the situation he was handed and is still dealing with quite frankly, is simply not grounded in reality.

I am a firm believer that if we trust the process, the wins will come.

Hey Bill, that's impressively weak sauce there.  Also your second paragraph should win some kind of Razzie for sentence construction.

What do we expect from 4 homers whose livelihoods are bound up with Penn State?

In Happy Valley, any criticism of their football deity du jour is a sin.

Screwing little boys, on the other hand? Not so very sinful at all, apparently.

Seems to me that there are four things you want when finding a head coach:

1) Be the face of the program/set the culture/etc

2) Recruiting

3) Player development

4) In-game tactical decision making

#1 is somewhat of a personal preference thing, but I think we can all agree that internally, JH has done an excellent job of instilling a sense of meritocracy, toughness and accountability.  I can't speak to how JF has done with that at PSU.

#2 - Seems like both are doing at least ok, maybe better.  With winning comes better recruiting.

#3 - We seem to be doing well in this regard.  Examples of kids who didn't do anything under BH and are now real contributors with NFL potentail are common.  From an outside perspective, it does not seem like this is true of PSU.

#4 - JF is terrible in this regard.  JH is excellent.

Doesn't seem like it's even close as to who you should prefer.

Sam Webb lost his mind on the radio this morning calling out the writers of this article.  I highly recommend everyone listen to the podcast of it.  It's up. He destroys them and it's hysterical.
