More Shades of 1997: Brian Griese Doing Color for UCF-Michigan

Submitted by BursleyHall82 on

We've talked a lot this week about Why We Hate Scott Frost, and now there's another 1997 angle to the UCF-Michigan game: Brian Griese is doing the color for ABC's broadcast. Oh, what irony! It's nice that Griese will be in the house to see Scotty take his punishment.

It showed up in this piece in USA Today, which points out that 19 years ago, Scotty really wanted to play Michigan. Now he gets his chance.

He isn't good at his job.  It makes everyone look like shit when you don't meet the expectations of you job.  Someone who doesn't even care enough to research the game he is calling.  stories he told were wrong. His undrstanding of the roster was non existant.  The only research he did was talk to Zordich because he was on a team with him.  Dude is just bad at his job.

One overlooked aspect of the whole 'Nebraska won the National Title' bullshit is the common opponent for MICHIGAN and NU that season, Colorado. CU played in A2 week one and didn't cross midfield until the 3rd Quarter ..Michigan dominated, esp on Defense as that team did all year. Nebraska, on the other hand ..and a fanbase that immediately denies CU is a 'rival' in any way barely beat that same Colorado team in Boulder at the end of the year. It's always some mythical game that combines NU vs TEN and the Rose Bowl but in basic comparison of common opponents it's not close. That next year I lived next door to CU TE Tennyson McCarty (RIP) and asked him what he thought. He said the M Defense was unlike any team they faced later that year. In his opinion as a player, MICHIGAN was the better team, by far. / not really a cool, but true story.

Brian Griese made his case too in interviews after the Rose Bowl.  But he did it by talking about the virtues of Michigan.  At no time did he ever mention Nebraska.

Frost, on the other hand, kept calling out and trashing Michigan to make his case.  He handled it with zero class.

I hope Harbaugh hangs a hundred on him.

And then goes for two.

I take it this means that Steve Levy is doing the play-by-play?  Because he is an absolutely terrible fucking announcer.  Absolute torture for the ears.  When I saw that the morons at ESPN saw fit to bring him back to the booth for college football I was crushed.
