Way OT--Best 3 album run

Submitted by ghostofhoke on
So I was trying to diffuse all the politics and rhetoric on my Facebook feed earlier today and this turned into a great discussion so I wanted to throw it out to this community. The best 3 album run for any band, any genre of music is?? Has to be three albums in a row. My submission is The Beastie Boys: Licensed To Ill-->Paul's Boutique-->Check Your Head. Close second--Beatles: Rubber Soul-->Revolver-->Sgt. Peppers or Led Zeppelin 2,3,4 Whatcha got?

Section.80, good kid, m.A.A.d city and To Pimp A Butterfly

Nobody delivers a story like he does, and he's great lyrically. On top of that, he's got more than one style. He puts out music with a message, but he also makes songs that get radio play and are just enjoyable to listen to. Still think it's fucking stupid that he lost album of the year to thot extraordinaire Taylor Swift.

I can think of plenty of rappers that tell a better story than Kendrick.  Slick Rick Krs Rakim Nas are all way ahead of Kendrick for me.  Plus I personally only like section 80.  Pimp a butterfly and Good kid just were not good enough from a production standpoint.  Too many watered down overproduced beats, too many R&b features.   He is good for a mainstream rapper but I am not really feeling his stuff.  Kind of like Kanye too.  Never liked his stuff either.

I'd say so. Don't get me wrong, Undertow is fantastic, however I like the more esoteric, complex Tool better than the angry, heavy Tool. Rosetta Stoned, The Pot, Right in Two, Vicarious, 10,000 days are all amazing songs. I feel that some on Undertow are a bit raw and underdeveloped in comparison.

Can't believe it took so long. Bringing it... To BOB has to be the answer. This isn't subjective. Back when Dylan needed a dump truck to unload his head. He could have put out multiple quality albums with the stuff that didn't make the cut and sort of has with the bootleg series

I think his second best 3 would be planet waves, blood on the tracks, desire. 3rd I'd go with Freewheelin, The Times, and Another side, even thouhg The times is almost unlistenable for being such a downer.

Surprised how few Dylan comments so far. As great as his earlier work is, Time out of Mind, Love & Theft, and Modern Times may stand up as his best work. Now, If he would just quit releasing Christmas albums and covering Frank Sinatra and record another classic or two while he still can, the world would be grateful!

Good call with the Beasties. I would offer Pretty Hate Machine/Broken/The Downward Spiral and Black Celebration/Music for the Masses/Violator. Also Bum Rush the Show/Nation of Millions/Fear of a Black Planet.

As a piano player, it saddens me that no one has mentioned:

Elton John: Honkey Chateau, Don't Shoot Me, Goodbye Yellowbrick Road

Billy Joel: Turnstiles, The Stranger, 52d Street

If I had to vote, I can't choose between Zep 2-3-4 and The Who Tommy - Who's Next - Quadraphenia

Dream Theater - Scenes From A Memory Part 2, Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence, Train Of Thought.

I went this over Images And Words, Awake, A Change Of Seasons, because Scenes and Train are my favorite two albums by DT.

My other favorite band is Tesla who had an excellent run with Mechanical Resonance, The Great Radio Conspiracy, and Psychotic Supper.

I second the guy who said Metallica
Kill Em All
Ride the Lightning
Master of Puppets

It's the holy trinity of Metallica albums with Cliff Burton.

My second choice is REM
Life's Rich Pageant
Document
Green

Come on, does it get much better than that?
