Very OT- Looking for a TV series to start watching, need some "mgoadvice"
I think it's safe to say we all share a love for Michigan Football, and Michigan in general around here. But I noticed a lot of "TV talk" as well. With Game Of Thrones ending for a while now, just thought I'd ask the board for some help finding a new show to watch to hold me over for the next couple months while we wait for football season to kick in.
Maybe a Top 3 from everybody?

It's not a neg bang for books. It's a neg bang for your assertion that reading a book on a kindle is worse than reading a physical printed book? Have you ever tried one? It has it's flaws but may be superior in every way except feel and smell.

I have only watched one episode of "The Man in the High Castle" but I like the premise so far.
"Vikings" is pretty popular and is well done.
Edit - If you like crime dramas, Bosch is very good. It is free on Amazon Prime.

Peaky Blinders - Netflix. Gangster show set in 1920's Birmingham, England. Three seasons are available. Six episodes per season.
The Man in the High Castle - Amazon - Set in New York and San Francisco circa early 1960's, except we lost the war. Only one season so far. This might be the scariest show I've ever seen.
Wentworth - Netflix - The Australian version of Orange is the New Black, except way better and much more realistic.
I am an anti-series type of guy. There are just soooo many series out. Most are fairly horrible. Some start good (first few episodes/maybe first season) then simply fall off a cliff.
I have started watching a hell of a lot of series, but its rare when they are good enough for me to keep watching. Im very picky.
Anyway, here are a few that have kept me interested all the way through.....
1) Game of Thrones (best series ever. Even if your not into fantasy/magical crap, this is just so well done. This series always has at least 5 story lines going at same time. You may not like 1 or 2, but the other 4 or 5 are excellent).
2) Walking Dead (not fear the walking dead. Im an anti-zombie guy, but this is way more than just picking up a gun and shooting zombies int he head. Competing vs. other humans for natural resources in an apocolyptic world)
3) Peaky Blinders (reletively underrated/unknown gem. Probably because its only on Netflix. if you like gangster movies, this is well done - only problem with it is i cannot understand some of the English as it is set in Birmingham, England)
With that said, there is one that i did watch all the way through, but do not recommend it. However, the first 2 seasons were pretty damn good. 3rd season ok. After that, walk away. Lost.
I'm surprised Walking Dead is in there, if you don't have patience for later season doldrums. I've seen all the seasons up through what's on Netflix, so I've stuck it out, but that show has some really rough and frustrating stretches.
It does - i agree. But then an episode later it is excellent.
My one huge beef (and it is walk-away level IMO) was when the pizza delivery guy died twice in 2 different episodes, only to show up later. Both times were next to impossible to survive. It was horrible TV and after the 2nd time, i stopped watching for 3 or 4 episodes. I did come back because there are a few other story lines i like, but 'you know who' basically dying twice and then coming out of pretty much impossible to survive situations is bad TV.
haven't heard of The Man in the High Castle. I'll give it a try this weekend
It can be a little slow at times, but the concept is utterly terrifying.
And the author is dead, so if the show is successful I imagine they'll continue the story from wherever it was left off. I haven't read the book, but I think I remember reading somewhere that it was left with an open ending, so the show could go in any number of directions.
Never heard of The Man in the High Castle, but I just watched the trailor and will be starting it today. I have been stuck watching Nashville with the wife. It isn't terrible I guess, but not my cup of tea.
Its been cancelled. I loved the music, but it was possibly the worst written show I've ever seen on HBO.
Even with Olivia Wilde's sexybits? I haven't seen it but given that premise I may look it up.
You know you can find pictures and videos of naked ladies on the internet without having to sit through a terrible TV show, right? I mean, you can probably even find these specific clips of Olivia Wilde pretty easily without subjecting yourself to hours of subpar TV.
The way people on this blog react to naked women is like a 10 year old finding a crusty playboy in the middle of the woods.
I found the same at 10 years old but under a bridge while fishing. Then the bridge people moved in and I moved out.

I was really looking forward to Vinyl last winter when i kept seeing the previews. But i was also pretty disappointed when i ended up watching it. I was expecting it to be much better.
from Dr. Who is the lead detective, very good murder mystery. Recommended
Preacher is weird but it just got really good.
And everyone should just trust me and watch Crazy Ex Girlfriend. Seriously.
Also You're the Worst and Catastrophe are the best relationships on TV.

You're the Worst is pretty great. Still waiting for Season 2 to pop up on Hulu.
I started watching Crazy Ex Girlfriend with the wife - her choice, especially since she's into musicals/broadway stuff.
I'll just say I wasn't the one who stopped watching. And not because of anything explicit or male hormone-inducing crap that turned her off and me not, but I just happened to find it hilarious and she didn't as much. I expected torture and instead received a boat load of laughs. Love it when that happens (not often with shows involving the wife, which is probably why she stopped watching anyway).
From FX. Archer is outstanding. Amazingly well written, great vocal acting, after the first 2 seasons FX upped their budget and the anamation got much, much better.
Think of it as a dark comedy James Bond?
It's on at the gym in morning and sometimes I'm laughing too hard to stay on the treadmill. The writing is superb.
