Pre-Dave. It was planned to close after the holiday sales. Toys R Us has been dieing for years because of mismanagement by previous management and Walmart etc. Can we stop the damn threads trying to say it's all because of Dave even if he is an asshole?

We must stay vigilant!  Especially at a time when there has been a search party formed to find our next AD.  We cannot let the past repeat itself.  Therefore, we must remind ourselves, and others, what an evil-doer DB was and (theoretically) continues to be.

We get a say as to who the next AD will be, right??

Every year my work participates in the toys for tots charity drive. All my co workers say they go to Meijer and Kohls to buy their toys they are donating. I tell them I do my toy shopping at Toys 'R Us and they are schocked I go there because of the prices. Truth of the matter is I go there to support one of the last true stores around. I was saddend when the FAO announcement happened, I will continue to support Toy's 'R Us even with Brandon there.

*Note - this wasn't meant to be a humble brag, just something I thought was relevant.

There are so few toy stores now.  When I was a kid there were several chains and many local places.  Now all of the chains are gone save for Toys R Us and many of the local shops have closed too.

Going to a toy store to try things out before you buy them is awesome.

The DB business model of cutting costs, firing people, and cheapening the brand (not sure if it can get much worse in this case), making it appear profitable on the surface, and then selling it for maximum profit for himself and investors.

This works to the tune of billions for activist investors like Elliot but not sure how this would play out for a company doing it to itself.  Elliot drives the company to the brink by cutting costs to the bone then selling the skeleton to a competitor.

Well, it certainly won't be the last you hear of Toys R Us in Manhattan though - per Business Insider, this has a lot to do with the lease agreement for the Times Square space and apparently they are searching for new (and I assume cheaper) arrangements in the city. It sounds like Brandon is simply moving the noodle to a different location, if you will, or at least this is the stated plan currently.

Brick and mortar stores in general will be going away. Unless they're super stores like Walmart or target or such that carry a huge range of goods. I haven't stepped foot inside a best buy in probably 10 years or more. Only shop at toys r us on the rare occasion of someone's birthday or something.

Even before DB took over, shopping for my kids at babies r us and toys are us was always an absolutely horrible experience. Can't imagine how bad it must be now, with all the erroneous retail activation and wow experiences and whatnot

I hate Dave Brandon as much as the rest of you, but I dunno, I feel like enough is enough. It'd be one thing if the post was a funny advertising gaffe or something low-impact like that, but this thread is a bunch of people cheering that many jobs are about to be lost, just because we don't like the guy many, many levels on the ladder above them.

Kick each newly unemployed staffer in the ass on the way out the door. The plastic watches they are given as parting gift will stop working at midnight.

I was just there yesterday (1st time) and was impressed by how awesome it was. I usually hate TRU, but that NYCstore was awesome (ferris wheel, toy selection...)

Of course Brandon is closing the only thing that makes people feel connected to the brand.

This was in the works before he got in. The rent there is really high and there is no way the sales could keep up. it sucks for the employees, but this is an economic issue, not a management one.

The Toys R Us corporate headquarters in Wayne, NJ are located 3.2 miles from Kareem Walker's high school (De Paul Catholic).  If we don't get Walker, we know who to blame.
