Early Report on 2016 5* RB Kareem Walker's visit

Submitted by MGoLaw16 on

First post, please be gentle. I checked the board and didn't see this posted yet.

There's not a ton of information, but it appears Kareem Walker enjoyed his visit (how could he not after that game), and has legitimate interest in Michigan. As most of you probably know, Walker is close with several major Michigan commits/target from NJ.

There have also been rumblings in the twitterverse that Walker might be trying to come back for another visit this weekend for the game against MSU, but I didn't see any official sources corroborating that information yet. If true, this could be very good news for Michigan.

Might want to recheck your ranking of UM's defense and offense. While I think they're great too, the defense is currently #2 behind Boston College in total defense. That's close to #1 but still, not #1.

Total offense? You're not even in the neighborhood. #78 in total offense.

we get all full of ourselves lets wait and see how this weekends game plays out.  How many seasons in the last 8 have been derailed by the MSU game?  I think its  a huge mistake to underestimate sparty.  Whatever issues they have with their team right now, what they do  have is an NFL caliber QB.  What I saw in the Rutgers game was after getting thrown to the turf for an 8 yard loss, Connor Cook got up on a 3rd and 18 and picked out a secondary reciever that was open and threw a dart for a first down on a drive to a TD.  This guy has won bowl games and come from behind games.  Don't underestimate MSU.  Yes I am excited about this year like everyone buuut...stats and rankings don't win football games, lets not gloat until after the game is over and we are victorious!

Yeah, it's going to be hard to move the ball on our defense, but if there is one guy that can do it, it's Cook and his recievers.  He's going to hit all those slants that all of the other QBs we've faced have been dropping, and his recievers are going to get all those YACs that other recievers we've faced have not been getting.

I want to see how our D reacts when they have been punched in the mouth.

This game will still need to be won the way all Michigan-Michigan State games have been won the last 50 years - control the LOS, be able to run the ball, avoid mistakes.  If we are going to win, we will need to contain Cook as well as we can and be able to run the ball with Smith and company.

The focus is on Cook and Rudock, but it will still come down to OL vs. DL and the RBs.

I watched his film expecting to be blown away but wasn't. He looks like a solid player that would contribute but it felt more like I was watching Derrick Green's HS film than Leonard Fournette's. If you want to get excited about an incoming Michigan RB go and watch Kingston Davis' film. Or if you don't have time, then just imagine what it would gave been like if Jim Harbaugh could have coached Jerome Bettis in college. That basically sums up Kingston Davis to Michigan.

Fair enough, I assumed if Harbaugh & Co. weren't seeking him out he probably wouldn't have decided to visit us. That isn't necessarily the case. If I had to guess though, I would think Harbaugh at least likes him enough to take him in the class or he wouldn't have been here last weekend.

Tyrone Wheatley visited him in New Jersey on Friday for his high school game, the day before the Northwestern game. I'd say the coaches are showing higher than normal level of interest. Karan Higdon also got his first playing time of the season as a true frosh during the visit, maybe not a coincidence?

I must not be good at watching film then because I thought Walker's looked impressive.  He is very light on his feet and his ability to make a subtle cut in tight quarters looked like an ideal match for a Harbaugh inside running game.  Sure looked impressive to me.

Agreed - and might be more important.  Walker is the bigger recruit, but we've got a few RBs in this class and I don't doubt Harbaigh's ability to bring them in.  We need to up our CB recruiting and Lavert Hill is a very good one.  Keeping good with King HS is also a plus.
