Early Report on 2016 5* RB Kareem Walker's visit

Submitted by MGoLaw16 on

First post, please be gentle. I checked the board and didn't see this posted yet.

There's not a ton of information, but it appears Kareem Walker enjoyed his visit (how could he not after that game), and has legitimate interest in Michigan. As most of you probably know, Walker is close with several major Michigan commits/target from NJ.

There have also been rumblings in the twitterverse that Walker might be trying to come back for another visit this weekend for the game against MSU, but I didn't see any official sources corroborating that information yet. If true, this could be very good news for Michigan.

And the chatter on the radio this morning was about how GOOD Michigan is and how Mark Richt is now on the "hot seat"... Those were the two hot topics this morning on my drive in to work... So if Richt is out (I don't believe it, but I also didn't believe we'd be this good this quick) that really would help our cause...

Pallante too, but I get what you are saying and have been preaching the same for awhile now.  One of the reasons our defense is so good is because we have upperclassmen DL and lots of depth.  If we want that to continue in the future we need to recruit DL.  I'm guessing Weaver ends up on the DL, maybe Johnson, depends on how much those two bulk up.  I wouldn't be surprised if Johnson goes the Poggi route and ends up on offense.

Hoping Rashan Gary is also taking note of what kind of D he will be a part of if he goes Blue.  This is some stellar D line coaching going on here.

Deleted the SIAP part but the notice is in the old mod sticky. Just meant to clean things up, +1 to the OP.

Edit: Nobody cares but I put that overly pedantic comment in the 2015 mod sticky.

Im still not seeing how Harbaugh can get this class to 28.

There are 3 unused scholarships. The 13 true and 5th year seniors takes it up to 16. Then guys like TRich, Strobel, Gant, maybe Bars arent renewed for a fifth year. That brings it to 20. Where do the remaining 8 come from? Who are the likely transfer candidates?

Guys that aren't getting PT or read the tea leaves and don't think they will be getting PT.  I can think of guys at all the offensive skilled position that might apply to.  On defense we have quite a few younger LBs who aren't seeing the field now so we have no idea how good they are behind the seniors.  Spring practice might shake one or two of those loose.  Then there are possible early draft entrys.

Draft entries, I'd bet Green leaves with Higdon coming on (and being just plain better), I'd bet at least one QB transfers, 5th years not coming back, and then grey shirts. I think Matt Falcon grey shirts. I think one camp offer (Weaver or Johnson) grey shirts. As for the names you mentioned specifically, even if we end up getting Jonathan Jones and the coaches think he can play right away, I don't think we will shoo Gant away. LB depth is too thin next year and he's a legacy which will give Harbaugh pause

Lewis could possibly be considered as gone... One radio broadcast I listened to mentioned him being graded out as a late 1st round/2nd round pick which kinda blew my mind... Then I watched him dominate one side of the field Saturday and then I understood the "late first round" talk.

Boy would it feel good to have a guy drafted in the first round again!

I do not see how any recruit could not have the time of their life at games such as Saturday's. The entire student section was a party from the opening play. If next week has a similar vibe, the team has a good chance and the recruits should have a pretty good feeling about going blue.

The NCAA limits D1 schools to 85 total athletic scholarships, so an even distribution over 4 years means just around 21 per year.

? How often does that really happen?

Or is the team in a situation where there are "troughs" an "peaks" - some years have 25 or 26 and other years 17 or 16. Is it cyclic?

not trying to make light of Sark's situation at USC at all (if the man has issues, he needs to take/be afforded the space and time to work on resolving those), but things like this do have an effect in the recruiting world...

anyone with better knowledge on these things have any insight into whether there might be kids who had Michigan interest but lean towards USC?
