Helmet Stickers back!

Submitted by DrMantisToboggan on

Chris Balas (rivals) is reporting that Harbaugh has decided to bring back Helmet stickers and do away with Legends jerseys. This comes a day after Jim favorited a tweet from a fan asking if helmet stickers would come back this year.

I am not sure about all of the feelings on this board, but I believe helmet stickers were one of our best aesthetic traditions until they were discontinued in the 90's. We had them for all of Bo's years except one, and you can be damn sure that Jimmy's helmet was covered in 'em.

I hope they don't look like the ones from Jim's era. Something smaller and more subtle would be better. The stickers shouldn't take anything away from the winged helmet. Maybe little Block M's or something.

I'm for the stickers but I just hope they are a bit smaller, maybe blue circles with a small maize block M in the center. The ones like they used to have looked kind of ugly, IMO.

In general, I like the idea of stickers. But calling them one of our"best aesthetic traditions" is just wrong.  Last incarnations were flat out ugly.

Can't believe the amount of hate I'm seeing for the Bo-designed stickers. They might not be masterworks of design, but a helmet full of them was a glorious and intimidating sight. Being back the classic look!

stickers to be earned...It is almost amusing how so many posters feel they know how to build a team or honor the Michigan traditions more than Jim Harbaugh.

Of course, there is always room for differing opinions but c'mon.  Do you really think JH is going to emphasise the individual more than the team. Think, man.

Im more excited that Legends jerseys are going away than anything else. I hated seeing our QB wearing #98. It should have been for the ND game only. There is nothing wrong with honoring former legends, but I felt Hoke went overboard.

Hate the look of helmet stickers.  Everyone here always freaks out about changing the helmet and yet the best part is the clean classic look.  All stickers do is clutter shit up.  Plus its like fucking handing out gold stars in kindergarten, oh you tryed hard in practice, here is a sticker.  How about if you play well in practice you get to play in the game, that is the reward.

Maybe I am the only one, but I loved having our QB wear 98. It was weird and I like weird.

Also, I thought DG totally deserved it for how much crap that guy went through and how much class he showed. However, I think the numbers should only be utilized when someone is deserving kind of like #1 for  WRs.

I really hope that they will put the retired numbers on the suites. I love the towers but they are so plain looking, I would love to see the numbers and the championship years.

I don't mind the patch, but don't have the numbers be position specific. If a D lineman wants #98, let him wear it, but still have the patch on the jersey.

Love the return of the helmet stickers.  Was never really a big fan of the Legends jerseys, but like the idea of honoring those players.  I would like to see dedicating one game a year, (maybe homecoming), to honor those Legends using the same type of idea with having certain players wear those numbers, (maybe with a more subtle patch), but just for that one game.

Love both decisions. Award individual players cumutively, not with the one-and-done approach of a legend jersey. Also allows more players to be rewarded. Also allows players to create their own legendary numbers. Spread the wealth of rewards, dont concentrate them on 1% of the team.

It isn't a goddamn beauty contest out there on the football field. If this is the "war by proxy" equivalent of the military "fruit salad" (service ribbons and medals) then let's not get our panties in a bunch over this. Our new, great head coach thinks the stickers are pretty damn important. His opinion on this subject is better than yours, because EVERYTHING he does has a calculated purpose in order to win football games. I won't pretend to know better than him or Bo and neither should you.

I prefer our helmet clean, but I'm also shamelessly in the tank for any Harbaugh-mandated decisions...so I'm ambivalent about the stickers.
Meanwhile, I HATED the legends jerseys, yet another symbol of Brandon-era gimmicks and commercialism. So that's awesome news.

i want legend's jersies to remain that, the jersey that a legend wore back in the day. The stickers are ok, but they should be truly earned, not given out for intimidation purposes like is obviously done at OSU

I like the idea of helmet stickers, as long as they do something to blend it into the helmet. It works with Stanford, OSU, other school that try it b/c for the most part their helmets are a single color. Our helmets on the other hand, have two dominant colors in which any additions just serves as a distraction. I'm not a huge fan of the old football helmet stickers, but i'm intrigued to find out what Harbaugh will do with the concept.
