They still matter. If he's traded, or under the threat of a trade, he's limited to those teams that are interested in trading for him.
If he doesn't like those teams, then his only other option would be to return to coach a college team.

a trade could possibly make it such that he gets squeezed out of the NFL?
That would be a good thing right?

"Resign he still can," you meant.

Yoda?

I have a hard time believing they'll trade him to the Raiders across the bay. That's too close to home and they are in-town rivals. A trade there could just be poisonous with the old coach being so close to former players.
November 30th, 2014 at 1:00 PM ^
But he would get to stay put in his home... so maybe it has wheels??? :(

Harbaugh would work for this guy...

Is that Captain Kanagroo?

Like father, like son?
Love the toupe.

which makes it that much worse. Easily the worst haircut I've seen on a man in many years.
The Davis family is just full of freaks, it appears.
November 30th, 2014 at 7:38 PM ^
I know a guy with that exact haircut. He's a completely awkward fucking weirdo, as one would expect.

Is anyone even sure that the Raiders are staying in Oakland? That rumored move back to LA just doesn't seem to go away.
November 30th, 2014 at 2:09 PM ^
Add the San Antonio rumors on top of that.
But the Raiders won't move for years, IIRC their lease in Oakland goes out a ways. If Jim only expects to coach there 4-5 years before pissing everyone off and moving on, these rumors aren't really relevant.

Quick question. When is the trading deadline for the NFL. I know they moved it back a few years ago, but I didn't think it was this late.
November 30th, 2014 at 1:20 PM ^
It already passed and if a trade happens, it will be done in the off-season. This is where we have an advantage, we can talk to Harbaugh's agent right now, while NFL teams have to wait until the end of the season.
November 30th, 2014 at 1:22 PM ^
Does that apply if the Jets trade money for Harbaugh? How overreaching is the trade deadline? Can owners not exchange sandwiches after that date? Or just players?
November 30th, 2014 at 1:00 PM ^
It really doesn't matter if he is traded or not. Harbaugh can walk from his deal with no penalties if it's to a college team. And Jim isn't going to want anything to do with either of those teams.

Man, I was going to comment on how badly run the Raiders and Jets are, until I realized I would have throw Michigan on that list if I used the same logic.
November 30th, 2014 at 1:02 PM ^
People here are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too emotionally invested in JH for their own good. If he doesn't come then its going to be like this.....

Miles is probably a better bet of success than Mullen. Mullen's had one strong year in his career.
November 30th, 2014 at 1:22 PM ^
I agree, but for, what, 5-7 years at most? Actually now as I type it that sounds kinda nice.
November 30th, 2014 at 1:27 PM ^
The other benefit to Miles is that he consistently hires strong assistants. He would likely groom a good successor. I'd still want Harbaugh, but I'd be satisfied with Miles.
November 30th, 2014 at 4:26 PM ^
The LSU offense is brutal. I think Miles would be ok considering it's the Big 10, but he wouldn't be a home run hire. Actually, the more I think about it, until significant success happens, no one is.
November 30th, 2014 at 5:52 PM ^
When you hire somebody like Cam Cameron, I'm not sure "consistently" is the right term.
November 30th, 2014 at 1:54 PM ^
how many 10 win seasons did Les have when he got the LSU job? (hint: zero)
If Les hadn't gone to Michigan, how many people would think hiring a 62 year old on a clear downward trajectory whose offensive coordinator is Cam Cameron was a great idea? (hint: also zero)
November 30th, 2014 at 2:15 PM ^
Les inherited a crap Oklahoma State program and took it to three consecutive bowl games while upsetting Oklahoma (at the height of Bob Stoops' career) twice. Even if you think he was still unproven then, LSU was convinced, and Les now has a decade of success at LSU on his résumé as well. The idea that we should turn up our noses at a guy whose career record is 131-49 is absurd.
November 30th, 2014 at 2:33 PM ^
Look, even if I thought Les was the bestest coach evarrr and not coasting on autopilot while relying on recruiting practices that are illegal in the B1G... he is a geriatric. He is two years younger than Mack Brown.
Please name me one other program that has hired a man over 60 to turn them around. Just a single expample from the past 70 years is all I ask... someone else who looked at a man likely 5 years from retirement and said "yeah, this is the right thing to do". I'll even spot you Florida Atlantic, who we should obviously be taking our cues from.
Why would you look at what LSU did when they hired Les 10 years ago and think the logical thing to do is to just hire him in spite of all of his massive, massive flaws instead of trying do what they did and identify a coach who will give you a decade plus of winning football?
November 30th, 2014 at 4:04 PM ^
You asked for one name.
November 30th, 2014 at 4:24 PM ^
Frank Solich at Ohio. And like the other guy said Snyder at KSU. Those are two within the last ten years much less 70, but ok guy.
November 30th, 2014 at 6:27 PM ^
fuck I forgot to spot Solich in the post :( I remembered him too and used him as an example in another thread!
November 30th, 2014 at 5:37 PM ^
So if I'm reading correctly, if we miss on Miles, then we should hire Mack Brown.
November 30th, 2014 at 6:34 PM ^
I'd take Mack over Les. Easily. Like I wouldn't even ask the question.
November 30th, 2014 at 5:43 PM ^
South Carolina has done that exact thing TWICE with Lou Holtz and Steve Spurrier. If season results of South Carolina over the past decade are below your standards of success, then your take on the magic 60th yr barrier is valid. If Les came in and had a run akin to Spurrier I would take it "flaws" and all.
November 30th, 2014 at 6:30 PM ^
I'm flattered that you schooled me with your first post! I forgot how old Spurrier was, jfc... he's been at Carolina as long as he was at Florida, too. I bet he retires either this year or the next.
He's also lost 5 games or more in 7 of his 10 seasons there, not a run I'd be happy with at Michigan.
November 30th, 2014 at 1:24 PM ^
I don't know why people think we wouldn't pursue Mullen but would pursue Les. I mean, they have many of the same faults but one is 20 years older than the other and seems not well liked in Ann Arbor.
