I have a hard time believing they'll trade him to the Raiders across the bay. That's too close to home and they are in-town rivals. A trade there could just be poisonous with the old coach being so close to former players.

It really doesn't matter if he is traded or not.  Harbaugh can walk from his deal with no penalties if it's to a college team.  And Jim isn't going to want anything to do with either of those teams.

People here are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too emotionally invested in JH for their own good. If he doesn't come then its going to be like this.....

The reason for that is there is literally no other candidate out there who seems like anything resembling guaranteed success, other than maybe Dan Mullen but I have a very hard time seeing Michigan pursue Mullen at all.

Les inherited a crap Oklahoma State program and took it to three consecutive bowl games while upsetting Oklahoma (at the height of Bob Stoops' career) twice.  Even if you think he was still unproven then, LSU was convinced, and Les now has a decade of success at LSU on his résumé as well.  The idea that we should turn up our noses at a guy whose career record is 131-49 is absurd.

Look, even if I thought Les was the bestest coach evarrr and not coasting on autopilot while relying on recruiting practices that are illegal in the B1G... he is a geriatric. He is two years younger than Mack Brown.

Please name me one other program that has hired a man over 60 to turn them around. Just a single expample from the past 70 years is all I ask... someone else who looked at a man likely 5 years from retirement and said "yeah, this is the right thing to do". I'll even spot you Florida Atlantic, who we should obviously be taking our cues from.

Why would you look at what LSU did when they hired Les 10 years ago and think the logical thing to do is to just hire him in spite of all of his massive, massive flaws instead of trying do what they did and identify a coach who will give you a decade plus of winning football?

South Carolina has done that exact thing TWICE with Lou Holtz and Steve Spurrier. If season results of South Carolina over the past decade are below your standards of success, then your take on the magic 60th yr barrier is valid. If Les came in and had a run akin to Spurrier I would take it "flaws" and all.
