FLorida dismissed Will M. So our turn now right?

Meanwhile in college RT @Andy_Staples: http://SI.com  has learned that Will Muschamp has been dismissed at Florida. Story upcoming.

[EDIT]: Will may have stepped down (Brandon-style). Regardless, he will not be coaching Florida next season.

I posted that in another thread and was trashed for it as well.  It's just an observation on how it could play out, not a defense of Brady Hoke.

Schlissel could very well drag the AD search out for a while.   There could be some real motivation to not want to make a coaching change until that is resolved. I think other factors besides the won-loss record play into the decision more than people want to believe.

If we lose out the rest of the way, though, I don't see enough cover to allow that to happen.  He makes it to a bowl game and is somewhat competitive in the finale, could be a different story.

I'd much rather see Hoke lose his mind than to watch him go clapclapclap after another stupid play

3 and out? clapclapclap

turnover? clapclapclap

10 men on the field? clapclapclap

It's like he has no clue how to react when everything isn't going well

Not me. There's a huge difference between controlled anger—which is what Bo displayed regularly, but mostly against the refs—and uncontrolled rage, which is what you see in the Muschamp clip, what we saw from RR on a bunch of occasions, and what Woody exhibited when he punched Charlie Bauman.

slight difference bw physically assaulting an opposing player and chewing out one of your own players.  ever see saban on the sideline after one his players commits a stupid penalty?  ever catch urban meyer directing controlled anger at players during in-game lapses in concentration or execution failures?  they do it whenver they feel necessary - bc theyre teaching, theyre striving for excellence, theyre coaching to win rings on biggest stage, not just breast feeding 115 sons like hoke.  those guys know what it takes to win and mold championship players, theyre not just yelling like children like brian kelly

Well, you're making my point—there's nothing wrong with controlled anger directed at players or refs or your assistants, like what Saban does periodically. What Muschamp was displaying, and what Kelly has sometimes displayed, is unhinged, spittle-flecked venting.

I don't think that Hoke's absence of anger on the sidelines is the problem per se anyhow. Tom Osborne wasn't a ranter or screamer on the sidelines, nor is Bill Snyder or Mark Richt or Bob Stoops or Pete Carroll. My bet is that if you took a detailed look at their coaching careers, you'd discern a marked difference in the quality of their assistant coaches.

I saw Bo grab Demetrius Brown by his collar and give him a shove after one of the 7 INT's against MSU in '87.  I watched this from the North end zone in EL.  It reportedly happened more to many other players during practice.  [Insert millenial-sourced and flavored comment about Bo never winning a MNC here]

Everyone has their own style, but Hoke is frustrating because his positive everyman approach clearly isn't working.

I mean, we always knew Muschamp was gone, and that Florida was always going to be M's main competition for coaching candidates. This isn't news; the fact that he got fired today rather than at the end of the season is what's surprising.

And there's been plenty of rumors swirling about Mullen not like Florida's administration, so I wouldn't say it's a given he's headed to Gainesville.

No one is saying that he's going to leave Miss St. today, or any time before their bowl game. But that doesn't mean he's not on the market. No one fires their HC in week 12 with the expectation of finding a new HC before the end of the season.

Imagine RR with Florida's talent.  And he has good recruiting ties down there.  RR has a better resume than Mullen and is objectively a better candidate.  The 'fit' issues won't be there at UF like they were at UM.  Plus you can look at it as he took Michigan from 3-8 to a roster that went 11-2, even with Brady Hoke coaching them.

Mullen may very well just leverage the inevitable offers he gets to stick at MSU where he's already built that program up and molded them into his system.  Now that he's had a very good seaosn the elite recruits will follow.  I bet he sticks where he's at with a very healthy raise.

miracle wins to achieve 8-2 this season. Before this season his last five seasons as HC had 5 losses or more. How is this "objectively" being better than a guy who has won at one of the toughest places to win in the SEC?

West Virginia really is not that hard to win at. Don Nehlen did it as did Bobby Bowden. Granted, Bowden did not win big, but he still won. Mississippi State is a much harder place to win at.

For starters the Pac12 is probably the second best conference in the country, not far off the SEC.  Living in Pac12 country, I can tell you the folks around here don't buy the conference superiority argument one bit.

Mullen struggled along for several years before fully installing his system with his guys - now he's having success.  Measure Rich Rod after the same time frame.

Rich Rod did more at WVU than Mullen's ever done at MSU. Including beating SEC teams.

RR has been very lucky this year. He was very unlucky at Michigan.  He's due.

He's also a FG away from being 9-1 and ranked in the top 5, above MSU.  MSU's had some luck too.

Let me ask another question -- what is MSU's best win this season?  LSU (who lost to Arkansas)?  TAMU (who lost to Missouri)?  or the 3-loss Auburn squad that barely escaped in 3 of it's victories including KSU?  None of them are as impressive as the Duck scalp Rich Rod can wave around.  And he's done that twice now.

People say this kind of garbage all the time.  They assume we can steal coaches from Baylor and TCU when there is zero evidence to support it.  Rutgers coach and Stanford coach turned this job down, probably many more.

MSU is a top 5 team right now. They play in the best conference in the country.  They are in the middle of fertile recruiting ground and can draw people from Texas or Lousiana or Florida easily.  Ole Miss has had top 5 classes, so there's no reason MSU can't. The fanbase is appreciative and supportive.  If Mullen wants to be a legend and have unrivaled job success, his best bet is to stay right where he is, just as Patterson and Briles have done.

Furthermore, if Mullen is paying attention he can look at the Rich Rodriguez and Mike Price situations to see that the grass isn't always greener and with prestige come some great difficulties.
