FLorida dismissed Will M. So our turn now right?

Meanwhile in college RT @Andy_Staples: http://SI.com  has learned that Will Muschamp has been dismissed at Florida. Story upcoming.

[EDIT]: Will may have stepped down (Brandon-style). Regardless, he will not be coaching Florida next season.

3-8 to 11-2 or 9-4 to 7-6.  But if you look at the returning talent from the 2007 team compared to the returning talent from the 2010 team, you can quickly see which is more logically defensible. Furthermore,  Rodriguez had coached the 2011 team for 3 years.  He coached the 2008 team for 3 months.

So is Muschamp a DC with a top salary next year or a head coach in a lesser conference?

If Mattison is gone there probably won't be a better DC available (if he'd take the job).

It's very possible Hoke has had some conversations like this with Brandon/Hackett. All the anger and vitriol aside, I think the smartest thing to do with Hoke is let him exit in a way that would allow him to stay connected to Michigan after he's no longer the football coach.

I know nobody is happy with him as a head coach but it seems crazy to ruin any chance for him to stay active with the school/AD in a constructive way moving forward. I think he could have a lot to offer, and that would be flushed with a public mid-week firing with two weeks left in the season.

would be giving a divorced father visitation rights. I don't question Hoke's integrity or commitment to UM. I think he is one of the fee head coaches who could swallow his pride and take an assistant coaching or some other position at the same program in the future. Let him focus on D-Line and recruiting.

We are talking about completely different aspects of his personality structure.  We all have our strenghts and blind spots.  You are referrring to his liminations as a strategic thinker i.e. his inabilty to see past his ideas of what the team should be to see the situation objectively and respond accordingly.  I am referring to what I see as his capacity to swallow his pride and act in the best interests of the University and the players he recruited and coached -- even if he can no longer serve as their head coach.  The reality is that he still has a lot to offer UM even if not as its head coach.  Just look at the inroads he has built restoring recruiting relationships with Michigan high schools.  After this season, he is going to have to take a lesser role somewhere.  If (and only if) the next head coach is okay with having Hoke involved with the program, then I would be okay with it.  Likely?  No.  But I agree with justingoblue's comment that nothing constructive will be served by destroying the relationship and running him out of town.

He's potentially an asset to the program in the future.  If Moeller can be invited back, so can Hoke.

It didn't work out here with Hoke, but not every guy has to be run out of town and then bad-mouthed (as Rodriguez was by Brandon).  There's absolutely nothing to gain from that kind of garbage.  Hoke worked hard for Michigan and represented the program well.  It just didn't work out with him as head coach. It happens.  He should be thanked and welcomed back if an opportunity arises in the future.

OTOH, if we lose to UMD - a real possibility - a bowl game becomes a moot point. We would have to beat the Buckeyes on the road, which is unlikely. There's no reason to wait until after OSU at that point, but of course they will.

This is the move Michigan should be making.  The 2014 season is lost. I'm unsure whether I want to bear seeing this team in a bowl game on national TV.  However, given LSU's current state, Coach Miles may soon be on the market.  Florida is definitely getting ahead of Michigan for the chance to take Mullen.

Given the past few coaching searches, I have little confidence in the AD and University adminstrators to behave properly and get it right this time.

Actually, they're not at all ahead in pursuit of Mullen because there is absolutely no possibility that MSU would allow him to talk to anyone in the midst of a likely playoff run. Firing Hoke at the end of the season will have no downside in that regard.

And firing Hoke right now--mid season after two consecutive wins--would make us look even stupider than we already do.

Keep your pants on. He'll be gone after OSU and our pursuit of Harbaugh, Mullen, or anyone else we might want will be completely unaffected by the timing.

Why does everyone keep saying this is such a smart move by Florida? This has been brought up ad nauseam with regards to Hoke; generally firing your HC mid season doesn't get you a whole lot and just causes the program to sink that much faster leading into the next cycle. People seem to want to do it out of anger at poor results rather than any rational benefit.

Then again, the fact that they got Muschamp to coach out the season is a bit of a crazy coup.
