Scenario: what happens if we win-out?
I'd like to propose this scenario and get a general discussion back . My buddy and I were arguing about Hoke's future and we couldn't agree. So what say you MGOBLOG nation?
The scenario (as unlikely as it may be) :
Hoke and company win out. This means we beat Penn State under the lights. We beat both Sparty and Ohio on the road. We thus finish 8-4 and and likely second in our division as the winner of the MSU/OSU game will likely finish with only one conference loss. In this scenario would Hoke keep his job?
I argued yes. He would have beaten both main rivals on the road. Won 6 straight. And more importantly finished with 8 wins which we kind of assumed from the beginning of the season that's where we'd end up.
My buddy argues nothing can save Hoke due to concussion gate.
My rebuttal is time heals all wounds and if he wasn't fired immediately there's still a chance. Plus there's no home run coach lined up to succeed him.
Humor me and chime in.
edit: I should mention that this was initially sparked by the topic of whether Hoke really is a "dead man walking" or if we are all just saying that because we want it to be true. We were trying to come up with a scenario in which he would keep his job and this, and only this, was my conclusion whereas my friend thinks nothing can right the ship. ... and I'll let everyone on the secret, we posted this to actually prove a point as well. We've noticed how deplorable this MGoBoard has become and were taking 'bets' on how many downvotes and negative, asinine comments we would gather by morning. All this despite having a CLEAR, LEGIBLE title, so if the topic didn't interest you, one could not click on it. So yeah, I guessed about 80% negative comments. Seems I'm pretty close.

Not only does Hoke keep his job, he leads the team to 5 national championships over the next 6 years before being lured away to a struggling Alabama program.

Cover her with a robe, offer her slippers, make her hot tea or cocoa depending upon her choice, ask her how it came to be that she'd be naked at your door. Then offer her a ride back home, talking about Michigan football along the way. Wish her the best.

i know there is no apology that can be made for the results... what I've been speculating on is what Brady Hoke and the others could have been with a different AD. I have to look at the man at the top. It's not just the player talent that have been wasted. It may not be popular to say this but we have a talented coaching staff. Or they were before they came here - even Borges who everyone loved to hate. (again... results) The list is long and distinguished... could we have a different season if Brandon steps down today?

New contracts for everybody and all is right with the world.
It'll never (yes, I said never) happen, but even if we beat everybody but (MSU or OSU), I still say new contracts and all is right with this world.
Like every rational M fan has stated, we all just want to see improvement, no stupid mistakes (e.g. 10 men on the field during punts), and the team play with fire. It will take all of that to win out or almost win out, regardless of a bowl.
I think that possibility is why Hoke is still the head coach.

This cannot happen. We are already moved into the phase of "Who Is Our Next Coach?" and "Will I Renew My Season Tickets?". Sorry you cannot stop that train once it gets rolling.
Okay if your dream comes true, then probably Coach Funk becomes Florida's new head coach and we play them for the national championship next year.
Geez...

Why do people like Hoke so much?
1) He is an ass to the media. A complete prick
2) He sucks at his job. A complete failure over his entire career.
3) He is not smart. Hiring Chris Farley as a head football coach can only work out one way.
4) HE IS AN AWFUL HEAD COACH. AWFUL. If things play out as I'm pretty certain they will, he will go down as literally the worst. Worse than RR for all of you morons out there who still think he is a bad coach.
This team will not win out. It isn't even worth thinking about. What if a giant volcano made of aids and ebola and cancer opens up under your feet right now and spews aidsbolacancer all over your life? Consequences? Scenarios? Let's chat about it.

Why do this kind of shit to this once intelligent, irreverent, funny, and thoughtful blog? Why post these stupid ass threads that aren't grounded in ANY kind of reality?
Why do message board guys love to play the hypothetical game?
Shane Morris is all we need to know. This kind of stuff wouldn't happen to COMPETENT coaches. It's not that the reaction would have been less boisterous if UM was 5-0 or 4-1 at that time--it's that the Shane Morris debacle happened BECAUSE the tema is bad and the coaching is total shit.
This team will more likely LOSE out.

he gets another year, because that would constitute progress and an upward trajectory. Beating both MSU and OSU on the road would constitute HUGE progress. Simple as that.
Won't happen.

... Hoke still gets fired. The Shane Morris issue is not going away because the media will not let it go away which means recruiting will be that much more difficult. So long as the media remembers the Morris incident and Hoke is the coach, Meyer and Dantonio will sit kids down with their parents and have a little discussion about how they respectively will watch out for the well-being of the kids. This discussion carries on with an iPad on the dining room table playing the video of Morris helped off the field dazed and confused followed by Hoke's awful press conference.

I'd love to see it, but I've watched both Michigan State and Ohio State play twice, respectively, this season, and I think the combined scores of those two games will be around 81-20, in favor of the bad guys of course. Getting to six wins is dependent on PSU, NW, IU, and Maryland wins. All those games are toss ups. Best guess: 5-7 with losses to MSU, OSU, and NW.
Right the ship with wins over PSU at home, IU at home, and Maryland at home because it snows that day and stops Diggs and Long. Hoke is gone; enter ______ who is saviour of program.

I've always been of the opinion that I'd rather go 1-11 and beat ohio, rather than go 12-1 with a loss to ohio. If we beat ohio this year, all else aside, I would support Hoke staying another year.
That said, there's no way in hell that will happen this year.

If we win out we will be 9-4 with wins over top 10 MSU and top 15 OSU and likely a top 25 Bowl opponent. Hoke probably keeps his job in that scenario but man will it be a tumultuous off season.
